Azelea’s Pov

Noah was the first to walk through the door. He had that smug look and the air of arrogance around him.

One last act of being a wife.

Then I am done.

I waited by the counter, eyes fixed on the plate that I was fixing, pretending to be absorbed by what I was doing. “Something smells really good,” he said, his arms wrapping around my waist as he pulled me into a tight hug.

I blushed, turning around as I wrapped my arms around his neck, a large smile on my lips, “You are back?” I whispered, hoping my voice sounded like a woman who had missed her husband.

I saw it, the flash of something dark in his eyes, but it was gone just like it had appeared. “You missed me?” he asked, his gaze narrowed as he stared at my face.

He wasn’t just staring, he was searching for something, an involuntary movement that would give me away. But that was the thing, I had spent the whole of the afternoon practising, making myself say these words until they didn’t sound like a lie again in my ears.
