Chapter 3

Author: Mountain River
Back then, Jayden still wasn't the Alpha King yet. Instead, he was just one of the many overlooked heirs.

I found him in the forest. His wolf spirit had been severely damaged, and he was on the brink of death. If I had stumbled upon him any later, he would've died right there.

Using a forbidden spell my witch mother had taught me before her death, I transferred my wolf spirit to him and saved his life.

It was because he had fused with my wolf spirit that he gained newfound power, eventually leading to him becoming the Alpha King.

As for me, since I lost my wolf spirit, I became nothing more than a cripple.

When I finished my story, everyone was dumbfounded.

Malia crossed her arms before her chest and scoffed disdainfully. "You transferred your wolf spirit to him? Even Dad might not know how to perform such a forbidden spell, yet you're saying you do? Don't make up such a nonsensical story just because you're trying to justify the fact that you don't have a wolf spirit!"

Vanessa agreed, saying, "That's right. If you really were his savior, why would he kill you? And you'd better not say that he has memory loss. That would be too much of a coincidence, wouldn't it?"

"Enough! This isn't the time for arguing amongst ourselves!" Dad bellowed angrily, causing Malia and Vanessa to instantly shut up.

Then, he turned to me and spoke in a significantly gentler tone. "No wonder you've always been so frail and weak… Turns out this was the reason. But you said he came specifically for you. Does he remember that you saved him?"

I nodded. "He does. He said that he's been searching for me all these years so that he could repay me. When he learned that I didn't have a wolf spirit because of him, he felt very guilty. He vowed to the Moon Goddess that he would have the best healer treat me."

Hearing that, Dad was even more confused.

"Since he remembers, doesn't that mean you're the Luna Queen he's been looking for all this time? Then why did he still say you were the wrong person when I sent you to him in the previous time loop?"

I shook my head. "I have no idea."

In the previous time loop, even up to my death, I still couldn't understand. Jayden had clearly been so agitated that his eyes reddened when he saw me, and he couldn't stop thanking me for saving his life. That sort of sincere gratitude wasn't something a fake act could portray.

For an entire night, he stayed by my bedside, holding my hand as we chatted. Those hands had ripped apart countless werewolves before, yet in that moment, they had been infinitely gentle as he carefully fed me my medicine.

He had been so reluctant to say goodbye. Still, before he left, he promised that I would get to enjoy the most supreme honor.

Precisely because of that, I had naively thought that I would be the lucky she-wolf who would become the Luna Queen.

However, when I was actually standing before him, he simply took a glance at me before exploding into a rage.

"I prepared this crown for her! How dare a crippled she-wolf like you touch what belongs to her? You don't even have a wolf spirit!"

With that, he crushed all my bones before dumping me in the forest to be torn apart by the wild animals.

Bright red blood flowed down the obsidian dagger before dripping onto the floor, where it immediately burst into flames. Following that, it spread rapidly across the ground to form an ancient magic circle.Raising the bleeding palm high into the air, Dad began chanting in an ancient language that was unintelligible to most ears, "By blood I bind, by name I seal! Let this wolf spirit be ripped from this body!"As though in response to the spell, the entire floor of the building started to quake violently.Inside the magic circle, countless rays of light shot into the air before forming into physical chains that wrapped around the Alpha King.Just like that, the originally unstoppable Alpha King was abruptly suspended in mid-air."Ahhh!" A piercing, blood-curdling scream ripped from his throat. The claws that had been about to tear apart my throat were blocked an inch away from me, as though a formless barrier was stopping them from moving forward any further."What is this? Fucki

The hall was so silent that one could hear a pin drop.Everyone's eyes were practically bulging out of their sockets in shock, as though they had heard the most unbelievable thing in the world.Immediately, the Alpha King's face twisted into a grimace, his eyes flaring red. Leaping to his feet, he pointed a violently shaking claw at me. "Annabelle Thornton, you must have a death wish! Guards! Arrest this crazy she-wolf and lock her up this instant! Right now!"The royal guards tightened their grip on their weapons. Nonetheless, they hesitated as their eyes drifted between me and the Alpha King."Have you all gone deaf?" the Alpha King bellowed furiously."They aren't deaf."From the entrance of the hall came a thumping sound—the sound of a cane striking the floor heavily. In walked none other than the Chief Elder of the council of elders. He gazed straight at the Alpha King, who was on the brink of an explosive rage, and spoke in an aged voice that still thrummed with energy.

As the border was being attacked by rogues, the palace stirred with an undercurrent of tension.Since Jenna and Malia had been the ones to deliver the money, they stayed the night in the palace. Later that night, they came to my room to chat.Malia had an uncomfortable expression on her face as she gazed at me. After a moment of hesitation, she finally said, "Annabelle, the way Mom and I treated you last time… I hope you won't take it to heart. It was wrong of us, and I apologize for our actions."If you hadn't given us a heads-up to sell off our assets and sent Jenna to the neighboring packs to borrow money, there was no way Dad would've been able to complete this task today. All of us… would've probably been executed."Letting out a sigh, Jenna came over to grab my hand. Gone was her past arrogance; only the relief of having survived and a hint of guilt remained in her eyes."I was too blinded by my arrogance in the past. From now on, I'll do whatever you tell me to do."I wasn

The following days, I became the most special Luna to ever exist. Not only did I not have a wolf spirit, resulting in a weak body and having to spend all day in my room, but the Alpha King still treated me like the most precious treasure in the world. After all, he had to put on an act to show everyone how loyal he was to this "fated" relationship.I became the target of envy of all she-wolves for having an entire palace and the Alpha King's love all to myself.Only I knew that this was simply the calm before the storm. The seventh day after I put on the Luna Crown, an emergency report from the northern border came.In the council hall, the elder in charge of finances spread his hands helplessly as he claimed that the treasury was empty, so he was unable to pay the military expenses for the border troops fighting against the rogues. The Alpha King's lips quirked into a smirk, but he remained silent. After the meeting ended, he came to my room."Annabelle, the Greyridge pack has

Absolute silence greeted the Alpha King's announcement. Those elders who had been full of mockery and disdain earlier now had such ugly looks on their faces, as though a huge joke had just been played on them. However, the most shocked person present was none other than my father. He was still kneeling on the floor with his jaw hanging open slightly. Clearly, he hadn't regained his composure yet.Nonetheless, the Alpha King completely disregarded everyone's gaze as he leaned close to growl in my ear, "Well played indeed.""For the sake of living, what choice did I have?" I replied calmly. He scoffed, his eyes shining with the urge to kill me. Still, he had no choice but to force it down and take my hand. Then, turning to the crowd, he waved our linked hands at them as a show of unity.Immediately, thunderous applause rang out as the crowd cheered in celebration of the Alpha King finally finding his fated mate.Only he and I knew that this wasn't a true bond but a battle of wits.

The moment Jayden expressed his rage, those subordinates who had originally already looked down upon the Greyridge pack instantly spoke up to show their disdain as well."I was just thinking there was no way the Alpha King would take an interest in a cripple; turns out she's a fake!""She can't even walk steadily on her own two feet, yet she thinks she's worthy to wear the Luna Crown?""How outrageous! Doesn't she know just how lowly her bloodline is?""Right? The Alpha King once swore to the Moon Goddess that he would only bond with his fated mate. Yet, a low-ranking she-wolf without a wolf spirit like her dares to think she's that lucky one?""A lowborn mongrel actually thinking she can rise above her station—how utterly ridiculous!"As the crowd's mocking continued, Dad hurried forward before falling to his knees on the red carpet with a thump. His voice quavered badly as he cried out, "My King, please, have mercy! If Annabelle isn't your fated mate, please just tell me who it
