Dax’s pov
I was in my throne room, staring into space as I wondered the kind of punishment that I would give to Penelope. She had defied me once more, and I was going to make her pay.
“Guards!” I yelled, as a guard came forward with another one coming forward sooner.
“Why were you taking so much time to come to me?” I said. They looked at me and looked at the drink in my hand.
“I’m not drunk. I’m an alpha. You think I can get drunk from meager drinks?” I threw it to the side as it shattered.
“Now let me warn you. Whenever I call you, you appear immediately with your speed. What if I was getting attacked? Did you think you were going to get here anytime you wanted? Was that your plan?” Before they could say anything, I flared up my aura, which had them crushing to the ground and bowing. It made me feel good that finally some people knew their places around here.
“Where’s Penelope?” I said.
They looked up and exchanged glances before looking back at me, but they were hesitant in answering me.
“I said where is Penelope?”
One of them gulped and stepped forward. “We couldn’t find her in the pack.”
“What do you mean you couldn’t find her? Why don’t you search everywhere?”
“Alpha, we have searched everywhere. We couldn’t find her.”
“Bullshit!” I said. “This is rubbish. I should have known none of you were competent. You’re all useless to me. Find her and let me know when you do.”
They bowed and left.
I started to think of what I was going to do when I would find her… maybe I would break her bones or beat her to the point she passed out on the floor… and that maid of hers who had tried to help, I had heard rumours about her. I would teach her a lesson too.
I got up and walked to my room to see Laura in bed.
“Hey,” I said to Laura. “Are you okay?”
She looked up to me and smiled. “I’m fine, thank you.”
I sat on the bed and placed a hand on her stomach. “Very soon you’d be able to give birth.” I smiled as she nodded. Then she gave me a worried look.
“Have you found Penelope yet?”
I shook my head. “Not yet. But I promise you I will find her and she will pay for what she has done to you.”
“Oh, no. There’s no need for you to do it, Dax. Trust me, I’m very, very fine.”
“No,” I said. “No one is going to treat you anyhow they want. They have no right to do it and especially that witch. She tried to kill you. But I will make sure that she regrets every single action she has done.”
Her eyes widened. “What are you going to do?”
A small smile curled up on my face. “I am going to do what any alpha should have done a long time ago when their pack was threatened. I will do the worst thing possible to make sure Penelope learns her lesson. I will find her. And if I can’t find her, I will make sure that someone does. I will report this matter to the council, the elders, whoever I can. Every single pack will be on the hunt for her.”
“Isn’t that a bit overkill?”
“Nothing is overkill when it comes to protecting those I love. And I love you, Laura. So stay here. Rest up. And anything you want, I’ll make sure it’s provided.”
She nodded as I got up and left the room.

While walking through the halls, my beta came up to me as I held my hand to stop him. “Before you say anything, where is Mina?”
“Mina?” He tilted his head to the left. “I don’t recall knowing anyone by that name.”
“The maid who stays with Penelope.”
“Oh, that Mina, right. Well, I don’t know where she is. Maybe we can ask some of the maids.”
“Ugh, you’re useless,” I said, pushing him to the side and walking past him.
I went to the head maid. “You, Mina, now.” She bowed and left. She knew what I wanted. I sat in the kitchen, waiting for her. And within ten minutes, both of them arrived.
I waved the head maid away, “You, close the door,” I said to Mina. As she bowed and closed the door behind her.
“Where is Penelope?”
“I don’t know where she is.”
“Oh, bullshit. Don’t you dare lie to me,” I said through gritted teeth. “I can tear you limb from limb, and no one would even bat an eye. Is that what you want? Your poor father to know how you embarrassed him. Disgraced his entire family. Because if you think I will stop with you, then you have no idea who you are dealing with. Tell me where she is now.”
“Alpha, I swear to the moon goddess. I don’t know where she is.” Before she could finish, I used my speed to rush into her, slamming her to the side as she hit against the oven and let off a gas leak.
I picked up a lighter. “All I need to do is slice this through. And the entire west wing of the packhouse will be blown to bits. I will survive. The question is, will you?”
I could see fear in her eyes as she was bleeding from her body. “She left the pack.”
“Excuse me?” It was almost like I wasn’t hearing her right.
“She left the pack, Alpha.”
I nodded. “So she escaped.”
“If you put it that way.”
I held her neck and rose her to the air, as her legs dangled. “Please, Alpha.” She choked.
“Do you know where she went?”
“I don’t know.”
“And why would you not know?”
“Because she told me not to follow her.”
I tossed her to the side as she smashed against a glass window. So that was her new plan… leave me here so that she will not face her consequences. Good. I’ll deal with this my way.
I turned to her. “Clean up this mess. Your punishment is not over yet.” And then I walked out of the kitchen.
I called a meeting with the elders. As they arrived, I told them of what I knew about Penelope. “She’s unstable,” I said to them. “She needs to be stopped.” They looked at me like I was crazy.
“Alpha, Penelope has done nothing wrong to you,” one said.
“But to me, she has done everything wrong. She is not to be trusted.”
“So what do we do?”
Put this matter up to the council. They’ll know what to do. An unstable wolf going from pack to pack? Trust me. They’d want to know who she is. And they want to bring her to justice.”
“For what?
“For attacking Laura For attacking me and everybody in this pack. Do I need to make myself clearer so that you idiots will understand what I want done?” They shuddered away from me but nodded. Suddenly they got up and left as my beta came in.
“Have you found her?”
“We haven’t found her, Alpha.”
“Keep looking for her. The council will soon get word of this. And I want everyone looking for Penelope.” He bowed and left.
Penelope’s pov“Right this way,” Callum, the beta, said as he opened the door and let me in.I walked in after him as I almost gasped at the sheer size of the room before me. I could only gasp at it as he closed the door behind us and walked into the middle of the room. He spread his arms around. “It’s all yours. It’s one of our biggest rooms. Not the biggest, but you’re a special guest of the Alpha, and I clearly know some things about him. Whenever he feels a certain way towards someone, we treat that person like a special guest.”I looked around the room. “All of this… for me?” I said, as he nodded.“Yes.”I slowly walked across the wooden floors and got to the window to look out. It was beautiful here. Far more beautiful than when I was in my former pack. At least here, nobody was treating me like a slave. But I couldn’t conclude yet. Maybe Lucas was pretending. Maybe he was even worse than Dax. Maybe he was going to beat me up the way Dax would beat me up because of Laura.I tur
Lucas’s povThe day Penelope was discharged from the hospital, I made sure that a limo had to pick us up from the hospital. I wasn’t going to drive her in my fast car back to the park. That might not be good for her still healing body.“Are you in any pain?” I asked her in concern as she sat across from me in the limo. She looked around with a smile on her face.“You know… this is the first time I’ve been in a car like this.”“Trust me, it’s not going to be your last.”She stared at me for a while before leaning back.“So, is this like a rental or did you lease it for like a year or something?”I smiled. “It’s mine. You should know that we Alphas have a lot of disposable income.”“So do you, like, work for money or how does this work? How do you have so much money?” I could see she was concerned.“I have businesses running around the pack, even around the lands beyond the pack. So for someone of my caliber, you should know that I would have a lot of money.”She was confused, but that

Penelope’s pov“Come in,” Lucas said, as the door slowly opened with another person coming in.“Alpha,” the person smiled and gave him a bow. “The elders are here to talk to you about some things. You have a meeting… that meeting that you’ve been pushing about.”I looked from the strange man at the door to the Alpha, as he nodded.“I’ll be right down there.”The man nodded and walked away.“Who was that?” I asked, as he smiled.“My beta. I will be back. I need to go and check out this whole deal we’re having in our pack.”It felt good hearing him talk about his pack like they were all family, but I was sure that this was all a ruse. He had to be playing me. I could tell that he was just like the others. Using people to get whatever they wanted. I would not let him win. Never.I held back my anger and my rage towards my former Alpha as I looked at Lucas. He was different from Dax in a lot of ways… jovial, happy. All of this was just how Dax was in the beginning, before he changed. Dax
Penelope’s povStaring at Lucas, I noticed that anything I say might put Dax in danger. But that would also trickle down to me. Because if Dax found out that I was here, and Dax found out that I belonged to Alpha Lucas, I would be in so much trouble.I shook my head. “I can’t,” I said.He tilted his head to the left. “Excuse me?”The way he said those words hit me deeply. As I cleared my throat to speak louder, “I can’t tell you.”He scoffed, looking at the ceiling. Then he looked back at me.“But you have to. I need to know what happened to you and who did this to you. The doctor told me that you were pregnant. Now you’re no longer pregnant. That must mean that you went through something. From the bruises on your face and the bruises that were on your stomach, I am going to assume that you were beaten up, except you might have gotten into some sort of accident.“So tell me, who did this? I swear to you, I will take care of them. They won’t even see me coming. That is my promise to yo
Penelope's POV I was not sure what heaven was supposed to look or feel like, but I knew that it definitely did not come with nagging headaches and that incessant beeping sound that tested my sanity.I opened my eyes after what felt like hours, daring to survey around as I stared at the machine. What happened? I thought I was dead? The more I thought, the more my head banged in protest until finally, everything came flowing in like a gush of wind.Dax hitting me, Laura's pretense, Mina, and that person....that willowy shadow that I had seen picked me up just when I thought death had arrived.Who was he?" I can see you are awake" a voice said, startling me nearly out of my wits as I turned to look at the direction of the voice quickly. It was a doctor, I could tell that much from his coat and the tired smile he tried to keep on his face." So anything? Headaches, pains, whatever? Please tell me as it would be useful for the evaluation" I groaned." I have a headache and my shoulder f
