ANMELDENKael's POV I had two eunuchs prepare me for the ball. I wanted to look better than I'd usually look. Dacian arrived just as the eunuchs were almost done dressing me up. “So, what's going on?” I asked. “The ball has started, but the Queen Regent is nowhere to be found.” Dacian answered. “And how good is the ball looking like it'd be?” I asked, wondering if the Lords would be able to trample on her with it again. “It's… actually better than every other ball I've attended.” Dacian answered, and I was taken aback. “She must have had great help to pull that off.” “I saw that coming, but I also kinda didn't expect it.” I answered, standing before a mirror. “Why are you interested in this ball? Not like I'm complaining, I'm just happy I'm not begging you to attend.” Dacian blabbed.“I don't know.” I shrugged it off, leaving for the ball immediately. From the music I heard as the carriage moved closer to the hall, it was evident that the ball was going to be spectacular. I hadn't hear
Hyacinth's POV It was the day of the ball, and I couldn't bring myself to postpone it. I spent the whole day in bed, and I couldn't leave now that it was time for the ball.My mind kept replaying scenes where Kael tore down a wolf in front of me. His wolf was absolutely gorgeous. A Black wolf, taller than me. The golden stripes all over the wolf made it look more gorgeous, and scary at the same time. I couldn't wrap my head around their ability to morph into such magnificent beasts. I had bawled my eyes out the entire night, and I wasn't sure I was feeling like going out for the whole day. “Your Highness, I don't think cancelling would make a good impression at this moment.” Liora groaned, genuinely worried for me. “The Lords already want to tear you apart, can you not just give them more reasons?” “Liora, it's not like they'd hate me less.” I answered from my bed, with no intention of standing up. “At least, they wouldn't hate you more.” Liora argued. “You should just make me
Kael's POV I was several feet away from Hyacinth since I didn't chase her, but I saw the wolf charging at her, and that was something I could not accept. I ran towards her with instant speed, jumping at the wolf as I shifted mid air. I caught the wolf before the wolf could touch her, and I instantly bit their neck off, without caring who or whatever their intention was. I snarled, raising my head that was filled with the wolf's blood. Hyacinth stared at me like her heart was hung in her throat. I shifted back, wiping the blood off my mouth. “Hyacinth.” I called gently. “Right, everyone wants to kill me.” She wept, running off. Dacian came out, and his eyes widened at the sight of the dead wolf and my bloodied face. Thankfully, royal dresses were made to allow shifts, else I'd be naked. “What happened?” Dacian asked. “She makes me mad.” I growled, reaching for a towel. “She makes me so mad, it makes my chest hurt.” “What happened? Why's there a dead person? I'm lost.” Dacian
Hyacinth's POV I watched silently, waiting for Kael to say something. Trying to speak up for myself against such a large number of people would only result in more chaos. “We don't want the humans to keep polluting the royal bloodline.” Someone yelled from the crowd. I noticed he had a handband with the drawing of an eye on it like the previous two people that had spoken out. “We will be forced to revolt if this continues and the Queen isn't deposed!” Another one with the same handband yelled. I looked at Liora who was tapping her feet on the floor , she moved close to me immediately and lowered her head. “What's that handband they're all wearing ?” I asked, and she looked hard, trying to notice them. “Answer us, depose the Queen!” Someone else yelled from the congregation. The Lords were also murmuring amongst themselves, several of them were smiling and giggling about the current situation. I wonder why I even expected Kael to stand up for me against them. “If you will all
Kael's POV “You're touching this robe again?” Dacian teased, barging into my room. I was holding Hyacinth's robe that she dropped four days ago. It had her scent, and I was mostly unable to stop myself from… sniffing. I was only just trying to figure out her scent. It was unusual. “I'm really going to kill the head eunuch the next chance I get.” I growled, watching him make himself comfortable in the room.“You shouldn't be getting angry about me showing up here anymore.” Dacian argued. “Whatever.” I hissed, standing up to get fully dressed. “It's nighttime, are you going to the waterfall again?” Dacian asked. “If I was going to the waterfall, Dacian, I wouldn't need clothes.” I answered. “I'm going to the top of the hill.” “We should go for a run sometime soon.” Dacian suggested. “If I somehow survive this townhall without killing anyone, then I'll consider it.” I answered.Dacian and I were at the top of the hill in no time. I could see the whole palace from where I stood, in
Hyacinth's POV It had been four days since I went haywire at the dining hall. I felt disgusted with myself, and I was unable to bring myself to face Kael, for no reason in particular. I wasn't avoiding him, I only immersed myself in matters pertaining to the ball.“Your Highness, you're skipping breakfast again?” Liora asked, and I shrugged. “I can always eat here, Liora.” I argued. “And moreover , you've also said Kael has been missing breakfast.” “That's probably because he's busy with stuff.” Liora shrugged. “This is not good.” “Liora, I need you to be on my side here.” I mumbled, taking a deep breath. In the past four days, I had written several letters to Callum, but none had been answered. I really didn't expect an answer so fast, since he couldn't have even gotten the letters. I was conflicted and disturbed. I crossed several lines. And for what?“I guess I will go and bring breakfast over now.” Liora said, turning to leave the room. She stopped abruptly, taking a deep sni
Kael's POV “And what are the traders at the Radical territory saying?” I asked, while the elders looked at each other like they were making a quick election on who should respond to me. “Err… they're planning to refuse trading with anyone else until the next full moon is over.” Elder Kendrick sai
Hyacinth's POV I grabbed the edge of the chair, digging my nails into it as Kael walked out of the room. I tried not to make any sounds so he'd not realize my fear. I never thought I'd need all that training on how to steady your heartbeat when lying to a werewolf, until now. I heaved a seizi
Kael's POV Dinner ended quietly. The wolves probably saw a side of me they never thought they'd ever see. I didn't speak a word to either condemn what Hyacinth did, or what Jake Lavendar did. They all went home murmuring to each other, but I couldn't be less bothered. “You're really going to act
Hyacinth's POV I stormed out of the dinner hall with my fists clenched. I was breathing so hard, I couldn't tell if it was because I was terrified that anything could have gone wrong, or angry that they kept speaking to me in a condescending manner. I wasn't just angry for myself. I was angry fo
