Hyacinth’s POV

“Hell no! I'm not getting married to a werewolf!” I yelled, unable to breathe properly.

“Hyacinth, calm down.” My father who had been sitting opposite me on the dining table said, trying to reach for my hand.

I yanked my hands backwards, trying to breathe properly as I was completely overwhelmed. I could only hope that it was a dream, and that he was just testing me.

“So, you called me in here to whine about my duty to the realm just because you want to sell me off?!” I scoffed, trying to keep in the hot tears that pricked against my eyes.

“I mean, why else would you want to see me? It's not like you care!!” I yelled, losing terribly against the tears as I couldn't hold it any longer.

“C'mon Hyacinth, you very well know that I care about you and your sister.” He said with a calm voice, reaching for my hands again. I slapped his hands off, shifting off the chair and standing up, maintaining a long distance from him.

“Then why am I marrying into a Northern family instead of her?” I asked, foaming . “It was always supposed to be her and not me! What changed?!”

“Well, she's nowhere to be found, and the contract I signed says a daughter has to be provided within two days.” He argued. “The details of this contract are too good to be passed. It has to happen now, and I can't risk you also running away.”

“All she has to do is to get married to him and bear him a child. She can leave after then…” I read out from the contract on the table. “You know that I'm not interested in having children.”

“Sadly, your duty dictates otherwise. There's so much time for you to develop interest.” He clapped back at me.

“And what if I can't?!”

“Well, you'd have to be married and give it a trial before we can decide that, yeah?”

“Please…” I begged, raising my head from his face. I couldn't hold back my tears any longer as my eyes met Callum's. He held his sword diligently by his side, and although I couldn't see his expression through his helmet, I could already imagine what he was looking like. The tears flowed freely.

“Please, let me find Sophia. I'll bring her back, I promise.” I wept profusely, but my tone deaf father seemed to have already made his decision.

“I'm sorry, Hyacinth.” He apologized, almost looking genuinely sad. “I have no hand in the matter any longer. I'm bound by duty, as you are. It kills me more than it kills you.”

“Callum, do something.” I begged tearfully, knowing it was hopeless, yet almost exposing what had been going on between us for months. How could I leave my sweet Callum for a wicked werewolf? How could I live amongst people that want me dead and would spend the rest of their lives planning how to take my head off?

“To avoid any more of your drama, you leave right now.” My father ordered, and he signaled for two guards to come and whisk me out.

“Father please, don't do this to me.” I begged, dropping on my knees immediately.

He turned his head, closing his eyes gently.

“The first time you're begging me, and it's for me not to sell you off. I hate this life.” He hissed, not looking at me.

“I'm going to die there, and you know it.” I added, hoping that his mind would change all of a sudden. “Don't do this.”

I turned to look at Callum who was holding his sword tighter than before. He couldn't do anything because it'd mean his death, if not mine also.

“Don't let them take me.” I begged, crying profusely.

“Hyacinth, the envoy that was sent is ready to take you along with them. I'm really so sorry.” He mumbled, touching my head as the two guards grabbed me by my arm and pulled me up.

“Be gentle with her.” He said while I wailed, whisked away, unable to be saved by the man I love, nor the man that birthed me.

I had always hated being royalty. There were rules binding everything there was to do.

I had been sold for just cheap trades, a promise of peace, and several gallons of wolf essence that'd probably save half of the sick in the South.

The guards pulled me, while my father followed behind. I looked back several times, and Callum wasn't there. He was probably as heartbroken as I was.

I immediately composed myself just as we were about to get to the werewolves. If I was to survive being in such dangerous lands, I'd have to be feared and respected. Bawling my eyes out in front of them would be a terrible way to start. Although the tears were still rolling out, I refused to throw a tantrum.

“Please, don't hurt her.” My father begged as I was handed over to the werewolves.

The werewolves only nodded, and the door into a carriage was opened for me.

I covered my mouth, promising myself not to make a sound as I almost wailed again.

I looked back and I saw Callum run out without his helmet. His gorgeous eyes were red from tears.

I let out a whimper as I felt several stabs in my heart, caused by my father's decision to sell me off.

“Please ma'am, have your seat so we can get the journey started.” One of the guards said.

I forcefully steadied my breathing, continuously trying to be calm as I bent over into the carriage.

I looked out at my father, who had the calmest demeanour. You could tell that he couldn't wait to jump around for joy the moment I'd be whisked away. He had struck the best bargain without even having to lift a finger. He'd have given us up at their request, but getting something off it was unexpected.

***

A day and half later, we arrived at the Northern palace. I had cried for half the journey, and spent the other half planning my new life whilst suppressing tears. I had come to terms with the conditions of my new reality, and it didn't take so much time either.

I was too deep in my head to enjoy the views of the structures in the North, but what's the rush? I'm literally living here for a very long time.

“We've arrived at the palace, your highness.” One of the wolves said, opening the window. Although we were still moving, I could tell that we had slowed down. From inside the carriage, I could already feel the stares of people around us, and it was sickening.

The carriage eventually came to a halt, and the door was opened, the guards were standing at the end , to help me alight safely. I hissed as I jumped out without courtesy. Sophia was the one brought up with all the nonsense that only wasted everyone's time in the name of courtesy.

“I see you're an impatient one.” A very thick, authoritative voice thundered, and everyone bowed as I turned to look in his direction. I could tell that he was the king regent I was supposed to marry, and if he was just a noble, I might be in for worse. There was another man standing behind him that looked almost as powerful as he was.

He was insanely tall, had a pretty nice nose, and he had blue eyeballs although I expected to see golden ones. The only thing attractive about him was his hair.

My father signed me up for torture.

Kael's POV “Who gave anyone the permission to laugh so mannerlessly in my court?” I asked calmly, and the court got silent immediately. The absolute silence only made me angrier than I thought I'd be. I turned to look at Hyacinth. Unlike the previous time when my eyes betrayed me, and I couldn't easily take them off her, I easily looked past her this time to my head eunuch who was at the edge of the room. He was holding my sword, and I was fighting the intense desire to ask him for it. Hyacinth turned her head to look in the same direction that my head was faced, and she looked back at me almost immediately. “Now, what are the important matters of today?” I asked, taking a deep breath. “The country is at peace, your Highness, but some of our traders are battling rogues at the borders.” Lord Thomas stated, and I nodded. I was about to speak when Hyacinth leaned in towards me again. “Rogues are the wolves that aren't under your supreme leading, right?” She whispered. “They're mos

Hyacinth's POV “There is a full moon tomorrow.” Liora reminded me like she hadn't been saying it since my meeting with Dacian. He had somehow orchestrated a court meeting I could attend. I was hyped to finally enjoy the thrilling life of a political court.“Why's the life of a Queen in this palace so boring?” I asked, rolling over the bed to look at Liora who was peacefully knitting. “Erm… I really don't know. This isn't boring to me.” Liora said without looking up at me. “You're definitely tired of hearing me bicker about the same thing over and over again.” I mumbled, yawning loudly. “But , come to think of it, aren't I supposed to be in charge of planning balls, special royal dinners and the likes? The Queen has to do all these things.” “Well, I hate to say this, but you are human, and there are several things you wouldn't understand about the traditions of werewolves that are embedded in these parties.” I hissed, rolling my eyes as I sat on the bed, “There is no culture tha

Hyacinth's POV I woke up with uncertainty in my heart. I did everything absentmindedly because I couldn't stop thinking about the vision.“Your Highness, you've been so quiet. Are you okay? Do you need me to do anything?” Liora asked, looking at me with concern. I took a deep breath, swallowing hard before looking at Liora. “Yes, I'm okay.” I said, forcing a smile. “Goosebumps are literally popping on your body every few minutes.” Liora pointed out, and I rubbed my body, realizing that she was right. “I'm fine, Liora. I just feel a little cold.” “Are you sure? Do you want me to make you some tea?” She asked, looking really concerned. “No, I'm okay.” “Would you like to skip breakfast so you can stay in bed?”I chuckled, shaking my head. “Let's go, Liora. I'm fine, I promise.” I got dressed and we headed for the dining hall. Breakfast was a blur, as I was just there physically. Kael didn't speak a word to me, but I was barely even listening to him. Kael left the room, and I lef

Kael's POV The rest of the time I spent at the Aldric mansion was fruitless because I was angry for every passing moment that Hyacinth spent at the mansion. I tried listening in on her conversation with lady Charlotte, but it was fruitless as they were very far away from us. Lord Thomas wasn't really great company. He was always looking out for his interests in the dumbest ways possible. “Your Highness, lady Charlotte.” Her presence was announced, and I squinted my eyes since I didn't hear him announce Hyacinth's presence. Lady Charlotte walked in, and Hyacinth wasn't with her. “Your Highness, the Queen Regent has left already.” Lady Charlotte revealed. “I think she has a cold.” There was a slight increase in her heartbeat. I easily caught her in the lie, but I decided not to press further. Hyacinth would always look for ways to trample my authority. “Take your seat.” I commanded, and she obliged. The rest of the day went by as a blur. I was mostly concerned with several, unen

Hyacinth's POV “Hyacinth, why are you here?” Kael asked, taking a step closer to me, like he hadn't already taken up all the same between us. I swallowed hard, trying not to break character by showing fear. “Personal business, Kael.” I responded sassily. “Your personal business seems to be ruining whatever I have going on, isn't it?” He asked, and I shrugged. “You do have to get over obstacles when you're set to achieve something, yeah?” I tilted my head to the side , with a gentle shrug. Kael grabbed me by the neck, making my breath hitch for the second time. His hands were wrapped so that it wasn't so tight, but at the same time, it scared me. “The next time you're in my way, you might not like what I'd do to you.” Kael growled, pulling me up by my neck. I started choking a little, and he only stopped raising me when I slapped his hand. “Your Highness, can we come in?” Lady Charlotte's voice disrupted the deadly tension that was beginning to scare me. He dropped me

Hyacinth's POV “So, how has your life been without siblings to torment?” I asked, watching Kael who had his legs crossed, arms folded, and his eyes closed like he couldn't wait for time to pass so he'd just leave. We had finished eating about thirty minutes ago, but he still wasn't leaving. The table was no longer between us, so we were in close proximity, but I wasn't even bothered. “Answer me?” I added when he wasn't responding.“Why are you bothered about my childhood?” Kael asked without opening his eyes or moving an inch. “Because I deserve to know whatever has traumatized you this much.” I said, about to fold my hands when he suddenly sprung up on me. I gasped loudly, jerked fearfully, and was about to land on the floor until he caught me by my back and pulled me back up. “Scared much?” He scoffed, with his hand still on my back. It felt oddly familiar, and comforting. “No, thank you.” I hissed, shaking his hand off my body. “Why would you creep up on me like that?!” “I
