Chapter Five - HURT!

Allona's POV:

My sensitive senses are filled with the thunderous howls of my pack. Their mighty hooves send a reverberating echo, a testament of their fight for dominance and ferocity.

The fog is kind of thick tonight but it doesn't matter to us. The Redwood Pack's vision is the sharpest among most of the Packs around and I know for a fact that mine is the best. I can sense that my Dad is just a few meters ahead of me with my Mom. I can smell my brother's scent nearby as well. I didn't know anyone yet who can beat my Dad in speed in his wolf form, that's how amazing he simply is.

He is really perfectly matched with my Mom who was a ferocious Gamma in Pinewood Pack before she met my Dad. Then, I heard again my Dad's feral howl and the pack's resounding, savage answer which seemed to reach the sky in vigorous crescendo. Their flailing hairy hooves in contrast with my smooth, curvaceous limbs as I run past them, with a speed so fast it's blurry. I decided to lay low and just run casually earlier, but I cannot. I realized I need to feel the thrill of running to feel alive and to clear away the haze that seems to cloud my mind a bit.

It's one of my abilities that I love. Running like the wind.

I listened to my pack's howl like a lovely musical piece, it never fails to amaze me as I immersed myself with the beauty of it all, where the show of chemistry and unity of my pack is at its strongest. The only light illuminating our pack's run is from the Full Moon as the pack relishes its radiance as it touches their fur like a lover's caress.

I can feel my muscles being stretched to its limit, the exhilaration I feel as energy and pure power that belongs to me courses over my lithe form. My sports bra accentuated the generous curves of my chest much to the annoyance of my Dad and brother earlier. This is as close to wearing nothing as I could get. I don't want any hindrances when I run.

'What am I thinking, focus on the run!' 'What a wicked she-wolf I become after listening to Dory's fantasies.' as I admonished myself.

Dory is the pack's play girl. She loves playing around with unmated willing males in our pack because her mate rejected her two years ago and married another.

The pain and agony that seemed to rip her heart and very soul almost killed her. I'm just glad I have this ability. If not, she wouldn't have been able to make it. She's actually a nice she-wolf who just longed for love all her life from her mate. She already moved on or so she said, but she's forever changed.

She loves to torture her former mate with a long line of her clandestine affair but she's not actually happy deep inside..

What if my mate rejected me? I wondered.

Well, I'll move on for sure but I won't reject him as long as he doesn't reject me.

With an intense burst of energy, I decided to run faster as if my life depended on it. I can feel the sweat slithering down slowly all over me. I really love the freedom running gives me plus it clears my thoughts. I can sense the formidable scene our pack faces. The enemy pack declared a war. Though we will not turn it down, there will be numerous lives that will be lost unnecessarily.

I close my eyes unconsciously.

My body feels exhilarated, liberated from all the mundane things in our crazy wolfy world. I felt one with nature as I ran, nothing else seems to exist but the feel of nature I so dearly love.I can hear my heartbeat thumping loudly in my ears. I never felt so alive, so carefree. If only I can shift.

I want to give this kind of freedom to my Rufina. I need to be stronger for her. I got startled out of my thoughts when I heard a loud warning roar beside me.

As I slightly turned my head to the sound, it's too late to dodge as my instinct screamed of danger.

I found my unfortunate self, wide-eyed with disbelief, suddenly thrown back from the sheer power of it as my body smacked violently against an ancient, massive tree.

"When I just said my vision is the sharpest?" I winced  with pain.

Lucian’s POV:

It’s specially foggy tonight, though wolves have a keen vision it might still prove challenging to ordinary werewolves. If not for my sharp senses, it’s really a challenge to go through this unscathed.

With unbridled jubilation, I silently ran behind my mate. Silently protecting her just in case some werewolf gets ahead of himself with her, I will be sure to smash them with my paws. Her beautiful and hot form nearly drove me to a madness of longing, but I dare not think further beyond that or I’ll be beyond redemption of no return.

She seems to enjoy running and I am truly amazed at how splendid my mate is. Her speed in human form is comparable to the speed of the warrior in my pack in their wolf’s form.

I grinned. It’s unbelievable.

I can sense though that she seems to be distracted.

To my utter dismay, I noticed her crashing herself at full speed to a massive tree in front of her. I growled in panic, but it was too late. With my heart dropping to who knows where, everything was in slow motion as I saw her body flew back as it prepared itself to be slammed down to the ground.

With a determined leap, I jumped to break my mate’s fall against my body  hoping she could land on my back.

I mumbled helplessly, "I'm dead," as the aroma of vanilla and flowers bombarded my senses as my mate's hair caressed my face quickly.
