The Alpha King’s Tattered Shirt

SELENE POV

"Where do you think you are going, girl?"

My body hurts so much. I want to cry, but I do not cry. A big man with scary eyes looks right at me.

"I am leaving this Moon Eclipse Lodge Chamber right now," I tell him. My voice shakes. My hands shake too.

"You think you can just walk away after what happened last night?" He grabs my arm. His hand is huge and warm.

"Let go of me! Someone put bad juice in my cup at the Alpha Moon Celebration Hall! I did not mean to run into your room!" I push his chest. My clothes are all torn up on the floor. They look like trash.

"Look at the bed, Selene," he says. His voice is deep like thunder.

I look back. The bed sheets have a red spot on them. My heart goes so fast.

"I am taking your big white shirt," I say. I pull the shirt tight around my body. It covers my legs down to my knees. "Goodbye!"

"Do not leave," he says. But I run fast. I do not look back.

LUCIAN POV

"Get up here right now, Raze Blackclaw," I talk into my phone. I am mad.

"Alpha Lucian? You are awake?" Raze talks back fast.

"Look at the magic eyes in the hallway. Find the girl who just ran out of my room," I say. I look at the bed. The red spot is still there.

"A girl was in your room?" Raze sounds like he saw a ghost. "But Alpha! You get bad bumps on your skin when girls touch you! Five years ago, the bad fight happened, and you can not go near any girl! The pack healers said you can never have a mate!"

"She did not give me bumps," I say. My skin is clear. My wolf is jumping inside me. "She is different. Go find her now."

"Yes, Alpha King! I will run fast!" Raze says.

"And tell Alaric Wolfsbane to meet me at the Alpha Throne Chamber," I say. "We have pack laws to talk about."

SELENE POV

"Why are you wearing that big shirt, Selene?" Elder Kellan Shadowfang asks me. He is the old man who watches the doors at Moonshade Manor.

"It is a new style from the Mooncrest Design House," I say. I try to look big and proud. "Do you like it?"

"It looks too big for you," Elder Kellan says. He looks at my bare legs.

"I like it big," I say. I run past him up the stairs. My legs feel like jelly.

I jump into the hot water in my room. The water feels good on my sore body.

"I am so mad!" I slap the water. "Who put that bad stuff in my drink last night? When I find them, I will hit them back!"

But then I think about the boy in the bed. He was beautiful but scary.

"Oh no," I say. I put my hands on my face. "I have a husband. I never saw his face because he went away across the sea three years ago. If the Corvinus Moonfang Pack finds out I slept with a stranger, they will throw me to the wild beasts!"

Knock! Knock! Knock!

"Who is it?" I scream. I pull the water up to my chin.

"Selene!" Elder Kellan shouts through the woods. "The Alpha King is back!"

"He is here?" I shake. My heart goes crazy fast. "Right now?"
