LOGINSELENE POV
"Get down right now," Lucian Lycan says to me.
The Territory Rider opens the door of the big pack carriage. I see the high walls of Moonshade Manor right outside the window. I hate this place. It is just a big iron cage for my wolf.
"I don't want to go inside," I tell him. I push myself back against the leather seat.
I don't want to be the woman of the Bloodmoon Throne. I don't want this scary man telling me what to do every day.
Before I can jump out and run into the trees, two big hands grab my waist. Lucian lifts my body like I weigh nothing at all. My front is pressed right against his big, hard chest. I feel the crazy hot warmth of his wolf skin touching me. My heart goes thump-thump-thump inside my ribs.
He carries me straight through the heavy doors. A Manor Caretaker is walking down the hall, and her mouth falls open. She looks like her eyes are going to pop out because she saw me get thrown out by Amelia Lycan two hours ago, and now the Supreme Alpha King is holding me like a pup.
He drops me down on the long skin couch. Then he takes my right hand and pulls it up. The sharp cut from the broken glass hurts so bad when he touches it.
"Bring the basket of healing herbs right now!" Lucian barks.
The caretaker shakes her head fast. "Yes, Alpha King! Right away!" She runs to the table and puts the small box down. "Do you want me to clean the blood, Alpha? You should not touch a messy she-wolf."
"Get out," Lucian says. His voice makes the whole room shake.
He takes a small leaf with wet blue juice on it and rubs it on my skin.
"Ouch! Stop! It hurts!" I scream. I hate pain more than anything. I try to pull my arm back, but his fingers are like iron cuffs around my wrist.
"Be still, Selene. Just wait a little bit," he says. His voice sounds super soft now. He sounds like a nice father talking to a small child.
He is over six feet tall and looks like a mean fighter, so hearing him talk so sweetly makes my brain go completely blank. The bright light from the high window hits his face, and he looks very calm and beautiful.
He puts a white cloth around my cut, and then he blows soft air on it. His warm breath feels like a little tickle on my hand.
I pull my arm away fast and look at the floor. "Thank you. Can I walk back to the forest now?"
"Are you silly?" Lucian looks at me with crazy eyes. "This is your pack house. You live here."
He talks like he forgot all about the paper I signed with Alaric Wolfsbane. I feel so worried, but I know I cannot hit a King, so I try to talk like a big girl. He never cared about me for three long years. Is he doing this just because we shared a bed in the Moon Eclipse Lodge Chamber?
"We broke the bond today!" I shout. "You are keeping me locked up against the pack laws!"
Lucian reaches out and pinches my chin tight. He makes me look right into his dark eyes. A mean little smile comes on his face.
"You know about the Grand Wolf Assembly laws, little bird?" he laughs.
My face gets hot like a campfire. He is making fun of me.
Lucian bends his head down until his nose almost touches my nose. "If the papers are torn up and the Alpha Council Lords did not see them, the bond is still alive. You are still my wife by law."
He is too smart and tricky. He made his lawyer bring the papers, but now he is changing the rules. A simple girl like me cannot win a fight against a big, bad wolf.
Ring! Ring!
The phone in his leather vest makes a loud noise. The strange feeling between us breaks.
Lucian answers it fast.
"Alpha King, the Grand Wolf Assembly lords from the big city are waiting at the Alpha Citadel," Raze Blackclaw says over the line. "They have an emergency about the border lines. The carriage is ready at the gate."
"I am coming," Lucian says, and he shuts the phone.
He lets go of my chin and fixes the front of his coat. I see him moving to leave, and my brain starts thinking about how to run out the back window.
Lucian walks to the big wooden door, but then he stops and looks at the big fighters standing outside. "Watch this room. Do not let her step one inch outside the house."
"Yes, Alpha King!" the big warriors shout together.
My heart falls all the way down to my toes. He is really turning me into a prisoner. I kick the air with my foot and watch his big back disappear down the trail.
"Get out of my bed," I snapped, rubbing my tired eyes as the cold morning air hit my skin. "Amelia will rip my throat out if she finds out I stayed the night in your private wing."Lucian did not move an inch, his heavy, muscular arm tightening around my waist like an iron clamp. "Let her try.""I am serious, Lucian," I growled, shoving his broad chest with all the strength my wolf could muster. "I have to return to the Lycan Moonkeep before the pack caretakers start searching the guest chambers."Lucian opened his golden Alpha eyes, staring up at me with a dark, lazy possessiveness that made my core throb. "Go then. But if my mother touches a single hair on your head, I will burn her courtyard to the ground."I rolled off the high mattress, my thin black silk tunic clinging to my hips. I did not waste time looking back at him as I pulled my boots on, snatched my shadow-veil from the stand, and slipped out into the misty dawn toward the territory carriage.By the time I stepped throug
"She must have miscalculated," Tanis Moonshade sneered, her eyes gleaming with dark satisfaction in the dim light of the Alpha Throne Chamber. "The Supreme Alpha cannot truly intend to bring a stray to the Ravenshadow Pack council."Lucian did not even lift his eyes from the parchment on his desk. "Ensure you learn a thing or two from her tomorrow, Tanis.""I will," Tanis hissed softly, stepping backward out of the chamber door with a twisted smile playing on her lips.As soon as the heavy iron door slammed shut, I emerged from behind the desk, my wolf snarling under my skin. "You cannot be serious about bringing me to the Ravenshadow territory.""Is there a problem with that?" Lucian asked, his golden Alpha eyes locking onto mine with lethal calm."Everything is a problem with that!" I yelled, my heart hammering violently against my ribs. "If I make one mistake in front of the pack elders, your mother will use it to strip my bloodline of our seat!""Stay close to me during the feast,
"Her sweet and charming voice sounded like music to Lucian's ears," I whispered under my breath, my throat tight as the rune stone under my tunic hummed against my collarbone. "And he could feel his grumpiness fading away."Seeing his dark, dangerous golden eyes soften just a fraction, I stepped in close, pressing a soft kiss to his broad jawline. "Someone is knocking on the stone door, Alpha. You don't want my efforts to go completely to waste, do you?"Lucian’s expression turned to pure ice as he stared down at me, his massive frame radiating pure territorial heat."Hide in the bathing sanctuary," I urged, my breath hitching as I shoved his chest toward the rear curtain. "As long as no one discovers you inside my artisan quarters, you can still share my furs tonight. Does that sound good?"Without waiting for his answer, I grabbed his thick wrist, pulling with all my strength to tug the Supreme Alpha King off the edge of the bed.Because I had promised he could return once night fel
"The nerve of you to touch Elder Luna Amelia’s sacred jasmine blooms," Tanis Moonshade's voice hissed from behind me, sharp and full of venom. "Do you have any idea how much essence she pours into cultivating these night-blooms every moon cycle?"My claws extended into the dirt. "I am only gathering the fallen ones. The moon-silk robes require a natural binding agent for the silver runes to hold their magic.""Do you think you can fool me, artisan?" Tanis stepped into my space, her golden eyes flashing with raw aggression. "I saw how Supreme Alpha Lucian looked at you in the tower. You are trying to weave a spell into those robes to steal what belongs to me.""Keep your claws to yourself, Tanis," I said, my voice heavy with the magic of my voice-altering rune. "Touch me again and I will let the Supreme Alpha know who ruined his mother's garments."She raised her hand to strike me, her face contorted in rage. "You arrogant little stray! I'll rip that ridiculous mask right off your face
"The nerve of you to touch Elder Luna Amelia’s sacred jasmine blooms," Freya Silverclaw's voice hissed from behind me, sharp and full of venom. "Do you have any idea how much essence she pours into cultivating these night-blooms every moon cycle?"The sudden sound of her voice made me flinch. My hand tightened around the withered, silver-tinged petals I had gathered from the damp soil of the Moonkeep’s inner courtyard.I turned around slowly, adjusting the thick obsidian shadow-veil over my face. "I am only gathering the fallen ones. The moon-silk robes require a natural binding agent for the silver runes to hold their magic."Freya’s golden eyes flashed, her posture stiff and aggressive. "Do you think you can fool me, artisan? I saw how Supreme Alpha Lucian looked at you in the tower. You are trying to weave a love-spell into those robes, aren't you?"Before I could answer, the heavy oak doors of the courtyard opened, and Tanis Moonshade stepped out, her expensive fur cloak sweeping
The cold mountain wind howled down the stone corridors of the Lycan Moonkeep, whipping through the open archways as I froze on top of the heavy wooden worktable."Ms. Ada?" Freya Silverclaw’s voice slammed through the thick oak panels, her claws scratching at the wood. "The False Luna Matriarch demands to inspect the white-jasmine silver threading right now. Turn the bolt immediately!"Lucian didn't flinch. His eyes were locked onto mine, red rimmed with pure Alpha possessiveness as his broad hand squeezed my bare waist, holding me pinned beneath his crushing weight."Answer her," he rasped into my ear, his thick length pressing hard against my damp skin. "Tell her you are occupied.""I am... preparing the sacred dye," I called out, my voice trembling despite the rune-stone under my collar. "Do not open the latch, or the moonlight magic will be ruined!"Freya paused outside the door, her low growl echoing into the room. "You have ten minutes, artisan. If the robes are not ready for th
