Chapter 24

CHARLES

They all went speechless, looking at each other like they had lost their way to a park.

“Ohh, now you have nothing to say at all!” I said to them and they sighed.

“King Charles! You are a Lycan and you..” one of the elders spoke and I immediately shut him up. 

“You think all I know is how to fight wars. Do you think I don't have thoughts about who I am and what I am doing?” I said, and they were shocked.

I was a man constantly training and far from home. It is unbelievable that I have studied the constitution of the land.

“I read the written tradition from page to page. I am very conversant with the unwritten ones, and you want to tell me that the tradition speaks about me being unable to get a mate?” I asked, and they all looked at each other.

“King Charles, you didn't know about the laws because all the kings before you had a Luna before they even got to the throne.” The other elder said.

“Brother, what are you scared of?” Reed suddenly asked, and I rolled my eyes in frustration.

“What do you think?” I asked him back, and he looked at Mrs. Roseline for help. She was once a Luna and a leader of the pack.

“Did you not think about the reason why your father got married to me?” Mrs. Roseline asked, and I rolled my eyes at her.

“Because of his greed and infidelity!” I replied, and she was shocked. I just accused her of being immoral in front of everyone.

“He married you because he wanted to keep his infidelity hidden. Am I lying, Mrs. Roseline?” I asked her, and she immediately got pissed.

“Can you be more reasonable? Your father is one of the best men on earth; he got married to me to be able to secure the throne.” She said with anger in her veins. 

“He was without Luna, and that is very bad for every man who is sitting on the throne!” she added, and I rolled my eyes.

“So the bottom line of today's meeting is I should step down for Reed with the excuse that I don't have a mate,” I said and chuckled.

“I should step down for a man who is not related to the throne and doesn't even have a mate. Is that what this castle and pack have been reduced to?” I asked, and none of them could speak.

After a while, Reed wanted to say something, but I didn't give him room for his words at all.

“And who told you all that I don't have a mate?” I asked them, and they all looked at each other. They didn't look bothered about my words, as they were all assured that I don't have a woman by my side just yet! 

“We know King Charles. It is not a hidden affair; you are without a woman! You have been without a woman for a while!” Someone spoke, causing me to turn towards the elders.

“And you have refused to pick one of the maidens in the pack!” One of the elders said, and I was finally seeing which of the points was making him furious.

His daughter, Amelia, was brought to me. He wanted me to marry her, but I just don't want to get involved with her. 

I believed so much that my own Luna would come when the time came, and it did!

“Brother, don't force anything. You are not chosen to be the king. You are a warrior! Let's stick to that calling! Or else things will go wrong and you will regret ever being on the throne!” Reed said, and I looked at him.

“Is that what you think?” I asked, and he smiled.

“With me on the throne, I will make sure you are taken care of as a soldier, and all your men, Paul Danford, Adrian, Alex, and every single one of your soldiers, will be taken care of with you.” He said confidently.

“You have the loyalty of the people and the soldiers, so serving me will make things easier for me!” He said it like he had already taken the post of being the king of this Lycan pack.

I smiled watching him being so bossy without even getting to the position yet.

He already believes in the capability of the elders to take me off.

“How many weeks?” I asked, and they all looked dumbfounded.

“What do you mean by how many weeks? I am not being the king for weeks and giving it back to you when you find your mate.

That is not how it works!” He said, and I smiled before facing the elders.

“You came to give me the warning, so how many weeks do I have before I will be asked to leave?” I said, and their faces went pale.

They were expecting me to agree to them today and just walk out of her castle like a controlled doll or a fool. 

Things don't work like that!

“What? This is a warning; this is them taking action and trying to take you out!” Reed said, but the elders interrupted him.

They understand perfectly what I meant, and they will never treat an acting king like trash and take him off without a warning. 

They must have forgotten about the timing. That is why they are here thinking I will leave just like that.

“Okay, King Charles. We have told you! The change of power will occur in a week!” They said, and I looked at Danford, who was standing next to me.

“Elders, next week is the moon festival! We don't do anything during this time!” He pointed it out, and they all nodded.

It is a written constitution that can't be bent! They all knew that, but they wanted their plan to work so badly that they didn't think of the timing.

“A week after the full moon! That is not bad; it will be a new beginning for a new king for the Lycan pack!” They said it, and I nodded.

Reed and his mother were not happy with the arrangements! They wanted to be on the throne as early as today.
