Chapter Twenty-Two

That was when he understood what it felt like to die and yet, he was still here. He knew the loss had broken something that couldn't be fixed inside him and he was happy to always have that gaping emptiness as a reminder of her.

"Hey babe," he whispered as he bent forward to give her stone a kiss and place the bouquet of flowers he brought next to it. She loved flowers.

"I miss you, Cassie," he said softly, his voice still barely above a whisper. "Every fucking day, I miss you. I wish you were here with me. I wish I could hold you and hear your pretty laugh again."

Lucas took a deep breath, trying to compose himself as hot tears were streaming out at this point and he swore he heard the sound of his heart shattering all over again.
