I placed my hand over his heart, and the Shadow Queen's power dove into his consciousness like a scalpel.

Every lie he'd told himself, every justification for cruelty, every moment of genuine feeling he'd buried under arrogance and political ambition, I dragged it all to the surface.

Damon's scream was purely mental, but everyone in the circle felt it through the magical connection.

"There," I said softly, pulling my hand away.
