Lights turned on.

The gate opened.

“Good morning, Emilia.

Already tired from everything, she could only nod.

“I'll need you to speak, Nyssa.

” The man spoke again.

He continued while she continued to nod.

“How are you?”

“My lord has sent me to you.

Weak. Or could he not see what this place had done to her? She would like to ask

him this, but the last thing she wanted to take was chances.

“I'm alright. Thank you.

What do you want?”

Bastian moved closer.

He looked around as though it was his first time in this place.

“Alpha Zevran has

asked me to take you out. Only if the conversation you two had is still valid. What

do you say, Emilia?”Before he could complete the last sentence, Nyssa had already nodded. She would

do anything - absolutely anything to leave this darkness.

“I already promised to be

of good behavior.

” She spoke now.

“Let the Alpha know how willing I am to do

what is right by him. I swear on my life.

“Good.

” He snapped his fingers now.

And two men moved closer.

“Open the gate and let her out. You shall take her back

to her chamber.

” He turned around and was on his way out - leaving Nyssa stunned

- and relieved.

“Thank you—

” She didn't, however, forget to greet him, before relaxing again -

waiting on these men.

While the men carried out the order from the Beta, Nyssa was too weak to move or

do anything. She trusted them to handle her and so she stayed while they picked

her up, reaching the gate entrance while they were soon on their way out.

It was a long walk.

Or maybe it wasn't; she enjoyed them carrying her. But after a long time, the door to

a chamber Nyssa recognized as her room, was flung open.

“Here.

” They dropped

her on the floor and walked out, leaving her confused about what to do next.

Maybe try to escape again.

“No—

” Nyssa shook her head at the thought of it. She was never going to try

something like that - not when she had seen more than enough in the last few days.

Why should she take another risk? She shut her door and walked further in,

admiring the room as though it was her first time in it - when she had spent days

here before being taken to that fucking darkness.

“No, Nyssa. Don't do it.

She moved farther into her room. Now that she was out of darkness, it was hard to stay in the light. Her poor eyes

were hurting from the lights in this chamber - and her legs couldn't handle her

weight. So she sat on the bed with a sigh of relief that escaped her mouth.

Waiting for the worst to happen.

***

The next time she opened her eyes, it was late in the evening. A bath was needed,

she then rushed to grab a towel from the closet before hurrying to the bathroom in

moments for the ritual.

On her way out, the door was open.

She could smell it; someone was in her room. One glance around and she sighted

him; Alpha Zevran.

“I see you're out.

” He got off the chair he was sitting on.

“And

you've taken a bath already.

“Yes.

“Yes?” He chuckled.

“I'm your Alpha. You'll refer to me as your lord as long as you're

under my roof. I thought we had an agreement already, Emilia.

“Yes, Alpha.

“Good.

” He reached the door, halted, and turned to look at her.

“You would have

resumed your duties to me as my maid right away. But the day has ended already

and I don't need you putting salt in my tea, as your sight may not have fully

returned.

” He opened the door and looked her in the face again.

“First thing

tomorrow morning, you're in my chamber, wearing your uniform and attending to

my needs. Do you understand me, Emilia?”

“Yes, Alpha.

“Good girl.

” He walked out.

“Have a good night. Remember to not put salt in the

stead of sugar in my tea.

” He mocked before shutting the door.“Fucking beast—

” Nyssa muttered.

She hates him - more than she hated Emilia and her parents. What could she do

now? Nothing. Nothing at all but remain under his roof for as long as she had to -

pending when she got another idea on how to escape. But this time around, an

actual idea that'll work out so she isn't caught and brought back to the damn dark

room.

The night, as usual, had come.

Nyssa, who never liked sleeping with the lights turned on, didn't turn off the lights

this time. Recovering from what she'd seen in the dark room was going to take

some time she needed.

Ants didn't exist in her chamber.

But it felt like they were here, jumping on her skin and crawling into her hair. Oh,

she hated the Alpha for making her go through all of these. The same man who

made her go through orphanage at such an early age - how dare he continue to

make her feel like a piece of shit she actually isn't?

These and many more thoughts ran around her head before sleep would come.

All this time, since she returned, she had nothing to eat. The appetite for a meal,

she didn't have either - and Agnes did not bring her anything to eat. She could not

blame the old woman who could have been busy serving the Alpha in her own

stead since she was in the dark room.

Nyssa, scared to be punished, woke up on time the next morning. According to the

clock hanging on the wall, she had over an hour to herself before heading to the

Alpha's chamber for work.

Hunger was an understatement of what she felt. Instead of waiting for the day to

break completely before she would have something to eat, Nyssa was on her way

to the kitchen. There was nothing she didn't see upon her arrival, and she didn't

waste her time thinking about what to eat.It didn't even matter. She just needed to be filled.

From the kitchen, she hurried back to her chamber. A tray of food in her hand as she

concentrated on getting filled up before the time to work would come. It didn't take

long and there were footsteps. The maids, as she assumed, were running around,

trying to get started for the day.

Luckily for her, she was different from them - although a maid, but the Alpha's. She

would wait until the right time before visiting his chamber to resume her task.

Something she also hated doing.

Finishing her meal, Nyssa glanced at the clock. Just as she imagined, there was still

time to rest. Taking advantage of the situation, she relaxed her back on the bed and

dozed off, opening her eyes often to see how much time she had left before her

work as the Alpha's maid would resume.

As soon as the time came, she could be seen hurrying out of her chamber. The tray

she used to eat remained in her hand as she planned to drop it in the kitchen before

returning to chambers.

“Good morning, Lady Agnes.

“Nyssa!” Lady Agnes cried at her sight.

“Look at you.

” She smiled and looked

around. Nyssa did the same, noticing the other maids who stared.

“When did you

get back from your trip?”

Trip?

What trip?

“Yesterday, Lady Agnes.

“We weren't told.

” The lady let out a sigh.

“I would have come over with some food

for you.

” She gestured to Nyssa who walked further into the kitchen.

“How did it go

with the foreigners?”What the hell was this woman talking about?

“Uh, it was alright. Thank you.

She dumped the tray on the sink and explained.

“I came over to get some food early

this morning. This is the tray I'm returning. Thank you, my lady.

” She greeted and

hurried out of the kitchen before the head of the maids would throw another

question she couldn't answer at her.

What trip was she talking about?

She would have asked the Alpha. But risking another trip to the dark room was the

last thing on her mind; so she wouldn't be asking him a thing. But the only thing

Nyssa could gather was that the Alpha had told them a lie about her whereabouts

when and if they had asked.

Why did he do that?

“Good morning. I have come to attend to the Alpha.

” She told the familiar face she

had seen the last time she visited his chamber for cleaning.

The man, also recognizing her, opened the door so she could walk in.

“Thank you.

She walked past the man, and into the chamber where she saw him. Them, rather.

The Alpha and Thalia curled up on the bed as legitimately married people would.

Didn't they have any shame? A question she needed to actually ask them. Thalia Especially.

“Did you find her?”“No, my lord.” The head guard in The Silvermoon Pack answered with a bow as heknelt.“We have toiled for days without finding the woman's body.”Alpha Duskryn smiled.Although he hoped they found the woman, he was more than happy that this wasthe news.“I see.” He smiled again, relaxing his back against the hard chair.“Wildwolves have eaten her, obviously.” There was pity on his face for a moment - but itvanished the next time he looked up.“That should be all for now. Although there wasn't anymeeting he had planned to have - he needed some time to himself. Away from theLuna and their daughter.“This is good news.”Indeed, it was good news.More than just good news. A piece of news he could not wait to tell his familyabout. Emilia had been worried the former princess might return at any moment, and he had tried to tell her several times t

Instantly, she froze.Zevran, from where he stood, could see nothing but the shock she had on her face.“You didn't think I would catch you trying to escape from my pack, did you?” He letout a scoff as he walked closer.“Go on. I won't disturb you.”Embarrassed, Nyssa stopped trying. At least, for now.Beads of sweat filled her face. She had been busy - trying to look for a way all herlife; since she was brought into this pack. And now that she had, this man had stillmanaged to sabotage her plans. How did he know?“I asked you to continue, Emilia.”“I can't.” She snapped.“I don't even see a way—” Her frustrated self could not holdit back.“Why?” Tears gathered around her eyes. She looked at the space again.“Idon't want to be here. Let me go.”No way she just said that to him.How dramatic! Zevran thought. He let her live after finding out she's his mate, eventhough the plan was to eat her; use her for meat.“You're such an ungratefulbastard.” He moved, heading in her di

He was seated in one of the chairs, waiting. As the hall door opened, he looked up. A sigh of relief escaped his mouth while she led her way in. “Finally. Look at her.” He gestured to Thalia who was seated with him at the table. As before, she was still mad that he didn't tell her about this lady. “I don't know what else to say to you, Thalia. I am sorry I forgot to mention it to you—” A sigh escaped his mouth. “Let's discuss it later, mm?” “Of course, Zevran.” She scoffed. The Alpha smiled. Besides Bastian, only Thalia had the right to refer to him by his name. She was his first mate, a woman he loved to an extent. But to live, he had to do what was needed by rejecting the bond. And they still did everything mates normally do. Except for acceptance. “Your meal is ready—” “Did you bring some for my lady?” “You didn't tell me I will add her platter to—” “Are you saying there's not more in the pot, maid?” Zevran ignored his wolf's growling and concentrated on criticizing her

As a new day started, Nyssa was up. Just as the head of the maids asked, she was up and ready to go about her day. In her mind, she knew what she was after. Of course, she didn't give a fuck about the mad Alpha. Not one fuck. Everything she was doing was one way to find a route of escape. She wasn't awake when she was shipped into the Pack - else, she would know one or two ways to run away. “Good morning, Lady Emilia.” An ordinary maid who walked past her room, greeted with a bow. Nyssa could only nod as her thoughts were occupied - she needed to think. Her legs stopped moving when she got there. The door leading to and fro the Alpha's chamber. “Good morning. I have come to attend to the Alpha's needs.” She told the man who watched the door. “This is the time to clean his chamber.” The man didn't speak. He only nodded and opened the door, walking in to do something before coming back to let her in. “Don't wake them.” He mouthed before she completely got in. “The Alpha doesn't

Of all the people she expected Agnes to mention. Not this one. The meal hung in her throat as she tried to process what she just heard. Maybe - just maybe she didn't hear correctly. Nyssa looked up at the head of the maids who waited while smiling. “What did you say?” “Alpha Zevran, my lady. This is his Palace.” Fuck no. The older woman repeated the same words she assumed she hadn't correctly heard. “The Heartless Alpha.” Nyssa opened her mouth, swallowing crumbs of meat that hung in her throat. “The wicked Alpha Zevran.” She looked at the woman who was confused. “I'd be back to lecture you, my lady.” And she was left alone - to and with her thoughts. This couldn't be. It just could not be. Did the moon goddess remember who this man is and what he did to her so many years ago? Zevran, her parents’ killer. The same man who caused the war that took their lives - and started her misery. What was she doing in his Pack? How did she get here? Definitely, it wasn't fate. It co
