“No! Don’t hurt my father. Please, he is blind!” Elysia cried as she watched the hungry wolves drag her father from the ground. One of them had her pinned to the floor with his claws on her neck. “Search everywhere for anything you can get. We are not leaving here with nothing to eat,” the bigger wolf commanded, sitting on a chair at the entrance. “Please, we have no food. The famine has affected us all… Ahh!” Elysia gasped for breath as the wolf pinned her harder to the floor. Her father struggled as he spread his hands in the air, trying to interact with his environment. The wolves who had entered the house in search of food came out. “Boss, we searched everywhere. We found nothing,” they said. The big wolf’s eyes turned bloodshot. “Then we’d have to make do with what we have,” he grunted. “Please, don’t hurt my daughter,” Elysia’s father finally stuttered pleadingly, finally finding his voice. The big wolf super-sped towards him and grabbed him by the neck. “How about you, then?” he growled. “Ah… Uh… Uh…” Elysia’s father choked. “Please, don’t! Please, spare my father!” Elysia pleaded profusely. The wolf growled even louder, carefully pinning him to the wall with his left hand. With his right hand, he pushed his sharp claws into her father’s chest and plunged them out with his heart. “No!!!” Elysia screamed. The big wolf let out an evil smirk, inserted the raw heart into his mouth, and dropped the lifeless body to the ground, his mouth dripping with blood. “Carry the body out!” he instructed, and his men carried the body out of the room. Elysia was in a pool of tears. “What do I do with you, little wolf?” the big wolf asked as he signalled the wolf pinning her to let her go. “Don’t hurt her any further. She’ll need some happiness to warm my bed tonight. Then you can have her for breakfast tomorrow.” “Please, don’t do this,” Elysia begged further. “Take her out!” the big wolf instructed. “No… please… don’t… please… no… no…” Elysia cried as the wolf dragged her away. ⸻ ASTRALIS PACK — THE ROYAL PALACE DARIAN’S CHAMBERS The gentle breeze blew her long hair, making it flow behind her. The atmosphere was serene, and the sound of crickets echoed in the nighttime. She took tender steps towards the river, barefoot. He watched her in awe, his wistful gaze focused on her every move. Her steps were elegant, and her aura radiated warmth. She halted in front of a coconut tree beneath which the river flowed. Her long floral dress flowed in sync with her hair as the breeze continued its calm blows. Gently, she sat beside the tree, her legs folded by her side, and her fingertips softly teased the water. She let out a giggle. “Captivating,” he thought and slowly began walking towards her. The moonlight shone brighter, casting beautiful, spotlight-like rays upon her. He stopped in his tracks and beheld her ethereal shift into a breathtaking, beautiful wolf. Her transformation was seamless and exquisite. Her fur was soft but full; he could feel it with his eyes. He watched as the moonlight dimmed and she slowly morphed back into her human form. His eyes caught sight of the black crescent-shaped mark on her shoulder, near her neckline. He couldn’t resist the temptation to touch her. He strode towards her one step at a time until he finally reached her. He halted behind her beneath the tree, with her back turned towards him. He sought to trace the mark on her shoulder, but before he could touch her, he felt her warm hands cover his eyes, and she whispered into his ears, “Mate. Hey, mate… I’m yours, and you are mine.” REALITY “Darian, Darian!” Kael repeated as he smacked the pillow he was holding across Darian’s face. “What the hell?” Darian muttered as he left dreamland. “Didn’t you hear me screaming your name since I entered in here?” Kael bluffed. “Of course I didn’t, fool,” Darian said, glaring at him. “You see, with that behaviour, I don’t think you are ready to be a groom,” Kael said in a sardonic voice. Darian glared harder and sent a pillow flying towards Kael’s face without even looking at him. “Really, man, am I the one forcing you to get a bride?” Kael continued sarcastically as he caught the pillow mid-air and tossed it across the room. It landed on the marble floor. “Shut up, idiot!” Darian snapped as he got out of bed. “Well, you need to follow me to go select your outfit for the bridal selection tomorrow,” Kael said, squinting his eyes, which were full of mockery. Darian rolled his eyes. “On the wedding day, I’m going to be singing my hardly composed, long song for you both, and you’ll have to appreciate it whether you like it or not, because I spent a hell of a lot of time on that…” “Yeah, that’s because you’re a jobless freak,” Darian insulted. “At least I’m not entering a forced marriage,” Kael retorted. “Sometimes, I doubt whose side you’re on,” Darian said, eyeing him. “Any side that’s not yours works well for me.” “I hate you.” “It’s mutual, Future Alpha King,” Kael said, giving a mocking bow. “By the way, why was your sleep so deep? Were you dreaming again?” Kael asked as he grabbed an apple from a plate on the nearby table. “Yeah, but I still didn’t see her face…” Darian said, a winsome expression on his face. “I’m so in love with your mate,” Kael said with a grin. “Oh, you wouldn’t dare,” Darian said. “I mean, she’s so cool. She should keep on stressing you out. I’m on her side,” Kael said, throwing the remnant of the apple at Darian’s face. “Ew! How dare you—” Before he could finish his sentence, Kael super-sped out of the room. “Meet me downstairs!” his voice trailed behind him. “Stupid,” Darian said, squeezing the leftover apple in his hands. “Why are you playing hide-and-seek with me, mate?” he muttered under his breath. She morphed and ran, gripping the map they had been given tightly in her hand. Vesper was in front of her, also running. Many of the other competitors were scattered across the woods, going in different directions.Suddenly, Vesper halted. Elysia stopped too, by reflex. Vesper turned to Elysia.“We need to split up now. We can’t go together. We would slow each other down, and it would be a disadvantage to us both,” she said.“Hmm… okay,” Elysia replied slowly, nodding her head, uncertainty written all over her face.“Don’t worry. You’d be fine. Just make sure to stay focused and don’t be distracted,” Vesper advised.“Okay,” Elysia answered. With that, Vesper patted her shoulders and sprinted away into the woods.Elysia was alone in the middle of the dense woods. She couldn’t find any wolf in sight. She glanced at the map, but she couldn’t decipher anything from it. Deciding to follow her intuition, she walked straight, deeper into the woods. She turned left as she walked on. Suddenly,
MAELIS’S HOUSE “Are you set?” Maelis asked Elysia as she finished packing her bags. “Almost,” Elysia replied. “Okay, but be quick. You have to leave early so you can get there before dawn tomorrow and settle in,” Maelis told her. “Okay, I’ll make it quick.” The sun had just risen when Elysia finished packing and prepared to leave. They stood in front of the house. “Maelis,” Elysia called. “Yes, pretty wolf,” Maelis teased. “Can I ask you something?” Elysia’s voice turned serious. “Sure. What is it?” Maelis replied. “Have you ever heard of any strange form of light?” Elysia asked. “Strange form of light?” Maelis repeated questioningly. “Yes,” Elysia replied, slowly nodding. “Why do you ask?” Maelis inquired. “Well… it’s nothing,” Elysia hesitated. “You know, you can tell me anything, daughter,” Maelis assured her. “The thing is… while I was in the woods…” Elysia stopped, her eyes locked with Maelis’s. She felt a calm wave of comfort wash over her, and sh
ELYSIA’S HOUSEElysia stopped in front of her house, her hands on her knees, panting heavily. She was exhausted from all the running. She sat on the veranda, still scared, her fingers trembling and her breathing heavy.“Elysia!”Someone called. It was the woman who lived next door.“Maelis,” Elysia said, seeing the older woman walking towards her.“Oh! My dear!” Maelis exclaimed, sitting beside her on the veranda and stroking her hair.“They killed Dad! They killed him, Maelis!” Elysia burst into tears.“I’m so sorry, baby. I’m so sorry,” Maelis said, comforting her.“I don’t know what to do anymore… I’m hopeless…”“Don’t say that about yourself, Elysia. It’s not your fault. The famine is affecting everyone, and they have chosen to do evil.”“There will be a solution soon. Don’t worry. Some wolves have already travelled to Astralis Pack to inform the Alpha King.”“But we don’t know how effective that would be,” Elysia wept.“Oh, it
TRIPA PACK — SOMEWHERE IN THE WOODS“Help! Somebody, please help…” Elysia struggled to free herself from the rope she was tied with on the ground. She was alone in a dirty hut. The smell of rotten clay lingered in the air. The walls had deep cracks, and the floor was rough, with scattered sawdust and animal dung. The poorly constructed carton ceiling threatened to fall on her head.“Keep it down, silly thing,” she heard one of the kidnapper wolves say from outside.Elysia continued to struggle, but the rope was too tight, and her pale skin had turned red. The sun set. Night took over, and frogs interrupted the silence.“Seize her!” the big wolf commanded as his minions came in and grabbed her.“Please… no, I beg you, please…” Elysia pleaded desperately. They dragged her out of the hut and dropped her on the floor outside. The area was quiet, and the hut seemed to be the only house in the woods, surrounded by a thick forest.“Strip her!” the wolf commanded
