XXV. Avoiding

After I clean myself, I go to talk with Ana and her parents.

“My dear boy! Look how handsome you are!” Mrs. Radu tells me.

“Thank you, mama Radu!” I say.

I see her stopping in her tracks, and I look at her. I hope I didn’t say anything wrong.

“You called me mama!” she says and hugs me. I return the hug.

“You always treated me like a son,” I say to her. “Both you and Mr. Radu treated me like family. I will never forget what you did for me.”

She looks at me, whipping away a tear. “You are like a son for me,” she says.

“I feel the same,” Mr. Radu says.

Ana whispers in my ear, “You already know how I feel about you.”

I have to have a serious talk with Ana about this.

We spend time talking about how they are. Ana’s parents tell me
