Arthur’s POV

Aurora sat on the edge of her bed, staring at Isabella’s photo on my phone. Her knuckles were bandaged, her face cleaned of blood but still bruised.

“We’ve been looking for three days,” she said quietly. “Where else could she be?”

I leaned against the window, watching the city below. “We’ve checked everywhere I can think of. Every lead has gone cold."

After the Ashawo Show Room disaster, we’d thrown everything at finding Isabella. We started with the clubs. Aurora and I had walked into dive bars and high-end lounges, showing Isabella’s picture to bartenders, bouncers, dancers. Most shook their heads. A few claimed to recognize her, but their stories never panned out.

“Let’s go over it again,” Aurora said. “What about the police?”

“Filed a missing person report two days ago.” I rubbed my eyes, exhaustion pulling at me. “Detective Larsen said he’d put out an APB. But you know how these things work. One missing woman in a city this size? She’s not a priority.”

“Then we have

Across from me, Lars’s champion entered through the opposite gate. The man was massive, easily six and a half feet tall, with shoulders like boulders and arms thick as tree trunks. The announcer’s voice boomed through the speakers. “Ladies and gentlemen, in the red corner, the Beast of the North, Kristoff!”The crowd erupted In cheers.“And in the blue corner,” the announcer’s tone shifted to a mocking one, “the so-called Alpha of Northern Europe, Arthur of the Moonrise Pack!”The crowd booed. My jaw clenched. I tried to center myself, to find my wolf within, but Excalibur was sluggish, suppressed by the poison coursing through my system. The commentators’ voices crackled through the speakers as we circled each other.“Well, this should be interesting,” one said with barely concealed amusement. “The mighty Alpha doesn’t look very mighty today, does he?”“No, he certainly doesn’t,” his partner agreed. “I’m seeing a lot of unsteadiness in his stance. That’s not the posture of someone re

The next morning, I woke with a dull headache, feeling queasy. I dressed quickly and headed to the common area where fighters gathered before training.Alessandro was there, sitting at a table with Margot and Katya.“Isabella,” Margot said when she saw me, “we heard about Lucia. I’m sorry.”I sat down across from them. “Do any of you know the name of the person she fought?”“I think his name is Diego,” Katya said.“Diego?” I repeated.“One of the male fighters,” Alessandro explained. “He’s been here almost two years. Brutal fighter. Lars likes to mix things up sometimes, put women against men when he thinks it’ll be entertaining.”“Where is he?”“Isabella, don’t,” Margot warned. “Whatever you’re thinking, it’s not worth it.”I stood. “Where is Diego?”Alessandro sighed. “East wing. Room 428. But you need to let this go. Diego was just following orders.”I didn’t respond. I turned and walked away, their voices calling after me.I went straight to Lars’s office. Lars was at his desk, re

The announcer’s voice echoed through the arena. “And now, ladies and gentlemen, Isabella versus Natasha!”I walked through the gate, the familiar rush of adrenaline sharpening my senses. The crowd’s roar washed over me like a wave. This was my tenth match. The training, endless hours with Viktor, the sparring sessions with Lucia—everything was paying off.Natasha stood on the opposite side of the ring. She was tall, with a muscular build, dark hair pulled back in a tight braid. Her arms were corded with muscle, her stance confident. The referee stepped between us. “Clean fight. Fight until submission or knockout. Understood?”We both nodded.“Touch gloves and return to your corners.”Natasha’s fist met mine briefly. She sized me up, searching for weaknesses. The bell rang.Natasha came forward slowly, her stance perfect, guard high. She threw a testing jab. I slipped it easily. Another jab, faster this time. I blocked it.She was feeling me out, watching how I moved. I circled left, k

“Get out.” Isabella’s voice was flat. “Both of you. Get out before I call the guards.”I froze. Her words hit me like a punch. Desperation built in my chest as I realized that reasoning with her wasn’t going to work.“Isabella, please,” I tried again, my voice calm but urgent, “just listen—”“I said get out!” she shouted, backing toward the wall.My jaw tightened. “I’m sorry,” I said quietly. “I have to do this.”I lunged forward, aiming for the pressure point on her neck. If I could knock her out, we could carry her out during the chaos outside. It was our only chance. But she was faster than I expected. She ducked under my arm, her elbow slamming into my ribs right where Lars’s poison had weakened me. I grunted, stumbling backward. Pain shot through me.“You think I’m still that weak little wife you can just manhandle?” Isabella spat.I lunged again, trying to grab her, but she twisted away, sweeping my legs with her foot. I caught myself against the wall, breath ragged, muscles str

Arthur lay on the hotel bed, bandages wrapped around his torso where Lars had poisoned him.“Okay,” he said, his voice strained. “Brute force didn’t work. We need to try another way.”I sat in the chair beside the bed. “I’m friends with Sabrina. Njord and I can talk to her, convince her to help us kidnap Isabella back.”Arthur’s eyes met mine. “That could work. If anyone can get access to Isabella, it’s Lars’s own daughter.”“She already doesn’t approve of what her father does. I think we can persuade her.”“Then do it. But be careful.”“I know.” I stood. “I’ll call Njord. We’ll meet with Sabrina today.”Njord and I met Sabrina at a café.“What’s this about?” she asked once we were seated.“We need your help,” I said. “To free Isabella.”Sabrina’s face went pale. “Aurora, no. You saw what my father did to Arthur. If he finds out I helped you—”“He won’t find out,” Njord cut in. “Not if we’re smart about it.”“And what if you’re wrong? What if he does find out?” Sabrina’s hands shook.

I pulled out my phone and called Arthur. He answered on the second ring.“Aurora? What’s wrong?”“I found out who owns the arena,” I said. “It’s Alpha Lars.”Silence on the other end. Then, “Lars? That fishy bastard.”“You know him?”“We’ve had dealings before. He’s dangerous, Aurora. Cunning. Don’t trust anything he says.”“He wants to meet with us. About Isabella.”Arthur was quiet for a moment. “Alright. Where are you?”“Still at the compound. But I can meet you at the hotel.”“I’ll be there in an hour.”When Arthur arrived at the hotel, he looked exhausted. The council meeting had clearly taken its toll.“How did it go?” I asked.“Fine. We discussed threats to the north. Nothing that concerns you right now.” He loosened his tie. “Tell me about Lars.”I explained everything, how Sabrina was his daughter, how she had arranged the meeting, how Lars had agreed to discuss Isabella’s situation.“He won’t just give her up,” Arthur said. “He’ll want something.”“I know. That’s why we need
