Aria......

I stared at the parchment until the black ink seemed to blur and twist like it was mocking me. My pulse hammered in my ears, drowning out the shuffle of feet and the soft murmurs of the crowd watching us from the gallery above and below, everyone was looking excited while my chest was in knots.

The words were simple enough, and yet they clawed at me.

“I am taken from a mine, locked in a wooden case, never released, and yet almost every soul uses me. What am I?”

It was the first of three riddles, written in curling script across the parchment, each line more cryptic than the last.

My throat tightened. I wasn’t supposed to be here. Serena’s words rang in my head, sharp and venomous. She chooses toys. Giselle’s delicate smirk lingered in my memory, her spear glinting like a promise. Matilda had looked like a warrior born, her axe resting against her shoulder as if she’d been raised with it in her hand.

And me? I was sitting cross-legged on the floor with parchment in my lap, t

  • The Alpha king and the Hunt   Chapter 129: The lies

Damien’s POV….I paced the small clearing near Aria’s room,my hands clenching and unclenching, my voice low as I spoke to the only person I could trust with the truth.“Aria,” I said, my tone tense, “I don’t understand. This darkness… it’s stronger than anything I’ve ever felt. I can barely control it. Sometimes I feel like I’m losing myself—like the wolf inside me is trying to take over completely.”Aria’s calm presence was a sharp contrast to the turmoil inside me. She tilted her head, eyes narrowing slightly, as though weighing every word I spoke. “And yet you’ve avoided mating with her.”I froze, my hands gripping my hair. “What are you talking about?”“You know exactly what I mean,” she said, voice steady but firm. “Louis. Your mate. You’ve had the chance, Damien, and you’ve held back.”I let out a frustrated growl. “It’s not that simple! You don’t understand the darkness… the way it claws at me, the way it twists my thoughts. If I let it take over… if I mate with her now…”Aria

  • The Alpha king and the Hunt   Chapter 128: Visiting Aria

Aria’s POV…. The morning sun spilled golden across the nursery, catching the gentle sweep of Caelum’s tiny hands as he reached toward the dangling toys above his crib. His soft coos were like music, threading warmth straight through my chest. I leaned closer, brushing a fine curl from his forehead. “Eat well, little one,” I murmured, lifting the bottle. He wriggled, eager and insistent, and I laughed softly. It was a sound I hadn’t realized I’d missed so much—peaceful and safe. Kaelen sat across the room on the floor, his back propped against the wall. He was quietly watching us, a rare softness in his usually guarded expression. The corners of his eyes crinkled in amusement as Caelum’s tiny fists batted at the bottle. “Looks like he’s got your stubborn streak,” Kaelen said quietly, voice low and gentle. I chuckled. “Let’s hope he has more of my patience than yours.” He shook his head, grinning. “I doubt it. He’s got your eyes; he’ll get exactly what he wants.” The baby g

  • The Alpha king and the Hunt   Chapter 127: Controlling the darkness

Damien’s POV…… It started as a whisper. Not a voice. Not words. Just… pressure. Like something coiled tightly around my spine, watching, waiting, patient in a way that made my skin crawl. I stood at the edge of the training field, arms folded, pretending everything was normal. The wolves didn’t notice. Louis didn’t notice. Not yet. But I felt it. Every heartbeat. Every breath. Every moment she was near. The darker part of me stirred more violently around her. As though her presence was both a balm and a provocation. Mine. Protect her. Take her. Bind her. Claim her. Keep her safe even if you must break the world. I clenched my jaw. Shut up. The voice didn’t leave. It never truly did. The day after we spent together felt… different. Not because Louis had changed. She was still careful, Still guarded__ Still proud. But softer. More open. She looked at me when she thought I wasn’t watching. She smiled more easily. She stood closer. And

  • The Alpha king and the Hunt   Chapter 126: Growing bonds

Louis’s POV…… Morning came softly. Not with alarm or dread. Not with urgency or fear. Just sunlight spilling across the floorboards and the quiet rhythm of birdsong outside my window. I stayed still for a moment, staring at the ceiling. It felt… strange. Waking without anxiety clawing at my chest. Without immediately running through threats, duties, responsibilities. For the first time in a long while, my first thought wasn’t about survival. It was about him. Damien. The memory of last night lingered like warmth beneath my skin. The river. The moonlight. The way he’d looked at me when I told him I would try. Not like I was something he owned. Like I was something he treasured. I exhaled slowly. Ridiculous. Completely ridiculous. And yet my lips curved slightly as I pushed myself out of bed. I dressed simply today. Comfortable clothes, my hair braided loosely over one shoulder. No armor, no stiffness. Just… Louis. That alone felt like rebellion. T

  • The Alpha king and the Hunt   Chapter 125: Moonlight date

Louis's pov…… I changed outfits three times. Three. Which was ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous. I stood in front of the huge mirror in my quarters, my arms folded, staring at my reflection like it had personally betrayed me. “You are an Alpha,” I muttered. “Not a nervous girl preparing for a first date.” The word date made my stomach flip. This was not a date. This was just… moonlight watching. That was all. And yet. I smoothed my hands down the sides of my dark trousers for the fourth time, then adjusted the soft, fitted top I’d chosen. Practical. Comfortable. Still… nice. My hair was loose instead of tied back. That wasn’t intentional. I just… forgot to tie it. That was all. I took a breath. Then another. Then I left before I could change again. Damien was already waiting near the edge of the clearing when I arrived. Leaning casually against a tree. Arms folded. Dark hair slightly damp, like he’d just finishing taking a bathe. Moonlight brushing over s

  • The Alpha king and the Hunt   Chapter 124: Growing darkness

Damien's pov….. The pack gates creaked open as we returned. The familiar scent of woodsmoke, pine, and warm bread hit me first. Home. Or something close to it. The merged camp had begun to feel almost… real. Alive. Children ran between huts. Warriors laughed near the sparring circle. The guards on the watchtower bowed when Louis and I passed. She walked ahead of me, her spine straight, head high__ Alpha__ Always Alpha. And still, somehow, my undoing. I watched her longer than I should have. The moon was already rising, pale and full above the trees. Its glow dusted her hair in silver and softened the sharp lines of her posture. She turned slightly, as if she could feel my eyes on her. I looked into her eyes and everything stilled. Just for a heartbeat. Something passed between us, Just quiet… awareness. I cleared my throat. “Louis.” She paused and turned to me I stepped closer, ignoring the way my wolf stirred under my ribs. “Would you… want to watch the moonlig
