Lisa's POV
"Then we get married, human. I needed a wife anyways. How about a contract marriage until the child is born?" He said like it was the most natural thing in the world. Like i was supposed to jump on him immediately while screaming my lungs out in joy.
My chest tightened as I watched him closely to see if he was actually just pulling my legs but unfortunately he had a serious expression that told me he wasn't kidding. In fact, he was damn serious.
Contract marriage? My stomach twisted into painful knots. This wasn't what I wanted. Marriage wasn't what I had planned, even though it was a fake one. Especially not with a dangerous werewolf. Especially not to the creatures that turned my world upside down.
The air-conditioning room suddenly felt suffocating. I opened my mouth to talk, and then closed it back. I don't know what to say. I don't know what to do.
“Hmmmm,” I finally regained my voice. “Contract marriage? I don't think we should do that.“ I said, shaking my head, my eyes lowered and my hands fisting into my dress as I tried to steady the storm inside me.
The room was silent for a while and the only sound I could hear was the pounding of my heart.
“You don’t want a contract marriage?” he echoed, then let out a sharp, mocking laugh that echoed through the room like a slap.
“Thousands of women would kill for the chance to be bound to me,” he sneered, thumping a fist against his chest with arrogant pride. “And you—” he gestured at me, eyes blazing, “a mere human dare to reject me?”
Disbelief twisted his features. His voice dropped, colder now, more dangerous. “You dare refuse Ronan Stormrider?”
I clenched my jaw, his condescending words hurting me more than I cared to admit. He had a way with his words that would want to make one slap him if given the chance.
“Excuse me,” I snapped, my voice sharper than intended. “You shouldn't talk to me like that.“ Then I remembered the sight of my parents being ripped apart. “I would rather be alone for the rest of my life then be married to you.“
He didn't say anything. Just looked at me briefly, his expression unreadable and annoyingly calm.
“Doctor,” he called, shifting his gaze towards her. “I want the baby removed.“ His voice was final as he stood up, his hands shoved deep into his pockets.
My stomach twisted, fear pulsing through my veins. This was death sentence for me. I won't survive it.
The doctor shifted uncomfortably in her seat, her pitiful gaze were fixed on me. “Miss. Lisa…. Why don't you just marry him? It's not a real marriage anyways.“
“Noo… I can't,” I whispered, tears blurring my eyes but I forced them back. I can't break down in his presence. “I can't do it. I won't do it.“
The doctor took my hands in hers. “I understand how overwhelming it can be. I understand that this isn't what you wanted but you have to think about your life.“
She was right. I have think about my life but then… I might end up dead if I spend any more minutes with a werewolf.
Just then the door creaked open. Beta Damon stepped inside, and trailing behind him was a file of three men which I assumed to be his lawyers. They were dressed in corporate black suit, their expression hardened and a briefcase in their hands.
I recognised one of the lawyers, a middle aged man with gray hair as a famous and award winning lawyer. He had never lost a case in his fifteen years of practice.
“Alpha,” Damon said, bowing. He stepped closer to Ronan and said something in his ears that had him nodding.
The lawyers also bowed.
The doctor sprang to her feet, her eyes widening with fear as she looked at the men. Then her gaze shifted towards Ronan.
“Alpha. Ronan….“ Her voice was trembling. “I thought we were sorting this out.“
“Sorting this?“ He repeated, smirking devilishly. “We ain't sorting shit. It's better you start with the abortion… then we can talk about the law suit after I know this woman isn't carrying my child.“
The doctor swallowed hard. Her desperate and pleading eyes fell on me.
“Get on it NOW!“ He growled, his silver eyes darkening with rage which send cold shivers down my spine.
“Alright.“ She forced a smile. Her fingers hovering over the table phone as she dialed a number. “Get the theatre ready.“
The moment those words left her mouth, the realization hits me that this was really happening. My life would be over soon if I don't make a decision. This jerk of a man would be forcing the doctor to induce an abortion on me.
I closed my eyes, breathing in and out to steady the storm swirling inside me. I bite down on my lower lips as I forced myself to say those words.
“I will do it.“ My voice was surprisingly firm. “I will do the contract marriage or whatever.“
The doctor heaved in relief, giving me a grateful smile.
“It's a good thing that you finally choose what's best for you,” Ronan said and I didn't miss the hint of victory in his voice. “My assistant would communicate the details of the contract to you by tomorrow and be ready to move into my home.“
“Is that necessary? I can stay—”
“It's compulsory,” he cuts in sharply. “Married couples should stay together, isn't it?“
I didn't answer him. He doesn't deserve any words from me.
He continued. “Let's leave for now. I will decide if I still want to sue the hospital or not based on Miss Lisa compliance,” he says.
I clenched my fists. Asshole.
He turned away, walking towards the door with his fleet trailing him. Then when he reached the doorway, he looked back.
“Don't try to play smart, Miss Lisa,” he said in a clipped tone.
And with that, he was gone, like he's never been here. Yet the weight of his words lingered.
The Moment, the door shut, the tears I have been holding all this while, finally slid down my cheeks.
How did I get here? I was looking for a way to save myself but I have gotten into another trouble instead. And this one, tops it all.
The doctor rounded her table, stepped closer to me. She crouched lower beside me and pulled me into an embrace. “I'm sorry, Lisa. You'll be fine and thank you for doing this.“ She patted my back
Pressing my lips together, I nodded and wiped the tears off my face with the back of my hand.
“Thank you,” I whispered, closing my eyes as more tears streamed down.
In that moment, I regretted everything. I regretted my decision of wanting something real for myself. Of wanting happiness and companionship.
After a while, we pulled back. I forced a smile at her before standing up and walking out of the office without another word.
________
“Lisa… where have you been? You said you were going to be gone for only thirty minutes but this is almost two hours,” Anna said, her gaze fixed on the laptop.
Ohh.. that was true I had taken permission from work to go and see the doctor but I had completely lost track of time.
“ohhh,” I sighed , frustration clawing at me.
Anna glanced up at me briefly before focusing back on the laptop. “Well.. Mr. Graham has been asking for you. You should go see him.“
“Sure.“
I made my way towards his office immediately, my thoughts spiraling. I breathe out, bracing myself for Mr Graham outbursts. I hesitated before knocking.
His deep voice ushered me in.
I gripped the doorknob, pushing it open and stepped inside the office.
The scene playing out in front of me , ripped the air off my lungs leaving completely stunned, terrified and completely unprepared
Mr Graham was—
Lisa’s POVWe marched into the villa like some weird little parade—Ronan in front, all broody shoulders and silent menace, Damon gliding in with his eternal “I’m too calm for this” vibe, Heri at my side clutching my hand like it was a tether, and me… stomping. Because stomping was the only way I wasn’t going to start screaming again. The air inside was warm, too warm. The kind of heat that stuck to your skin and made your heart hammer worse. I wanted to sit. I wanted to stand. I wanted to grab Ronan and shake him until answers fell out of his mouth like coins out of a busted vending machine.Instead, he stopped in the living room, right by the couch, and turned like he was about to deliver some grave, world-shattering speech. Damon leaned on the wall, arms crossed, eyes sharp. Heri perched at the edge of an armchair, small, waiting.Me? I plopped onto the couch, crossed my arms, and glared at Ronan like, all right, mister, the floor is yours—spill the secrets. The silence stretched.A
Ronan’s POVThere she was.Lisa.Arms crossed like iron bars, foot tapping so fast it was practically drilling into the wood of the porch. Her eyes—sharp, blazing, a storm bottled in one body. And Heri, peeking out from behind her like a quiet shadow, book still clutched in her hands, expression unreadable but calm in that unnerving way she always carried.Ah, hell.I braced myself. The second my boots touched the step, Lisa’s voice cracked through the air.“—DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA—” She cut herself off, threw her hands up, then stomped down two steps closer, jabbing a finger at my chest like she was about to stab me with it. “Ronan. Freaking. Hunter. You are LATE.”I blinked, thrown off by the sheer fire of it. “I—”“Nope! Uh-uh! Don’t even start!” she snapped, wagging her finger like I was some delinquent schoolboy. “Do you KNOW what it’s like waiting here? Sitting? Pacing? Pacing so much I almost dug a trench in the floor?! Heri saw it, tell him, Heri—”Heri raised her book a little,
Ronan’s POVThe air in the elder’s sitting room was heavy. Too heavy. It clung to my lungs like damp cloth, choking without pressure. The elder sat hunched, his hand still trembling slightly against his knee. His wife hovered near the door, fussing with a tray she didn’t really want to carry. Damon was watching—eyes sharp, like he was waiting for the elder to slip and reveal something else.My jaw locked. I couldn’t shake it. That voice. Heri’s voice. The echo of it still pulsed in my skull, haunting, taunting. And that damn house.“Alpha Ronan,” the elder rasped, his voice cracked but steadying. “What I’ve said… that is all you can take from me.”“Take?” I echoed, my tone sharper than I intended. “Or all you’re willing to give?”His eyes flicked up. For a second—just a second—there was defiance there. A flash of something old and unbending. Then it faded. He exhaled, long and ragged. “Sometimes… the burden of knowing is heavier than ignorance.”My hands curled into fists. “Then let m
Ronan’s POVThe elder stood at the doorway, framed by the dim afternoon light. His steps were measured, but his presence carried the weight of someone used to respect. His hair had silvered, skin weathered by time, but his eyes… sharp. Searching.“Alpha Ronan,” he greeted, voice low, resonant. “I apologize for the delay.”I inclined my head. “Your wife received us graciously.”He glanced toward the table, the untouched tea, the cooling biscuits, then back to me. His gaze lingered, reading me the way old wolves do. “I imagine you didn’t come only to drink tea.”“No.” I gestured to the seat opposite. “There are matters I need your insight on. Private matters.”He lowered himself slowly, hands resting on his knees, posture still proud. “Then speak.”The room quieted. Even the tick of the clock seemed to hold back.I drew a breath. “It’s about a mark. A strange one. I’ve only seen it once—on a child.”The elder’s eyes flickered. Just for a heartbeat, but I caught it. “A mark,” he repeated
Lisa’s POVThe dishes were still clinking faintly in the sink when Ronan stood up, chair legs scraping the floor in that decisive alpha way he always did things. His expression was sharp, already distant, like his head was two steps ahead of us, plotting the next move.“Damon,” he said, voice calm but commanding, “let’s go.”Go? Go where? My brain scrambled. And then it hit me—oh no no no no no—“Wait, wait, hold on.” I pushed up so fast my chair nearly tipped. “Go? As in—leave leave? Right now?? Without—without me??”Ronan barely even looked at me. Just grabbed his coat off the back of the chair like I hadn’t just squeaked myself into near-collapse. “Yes.”My mouth dropped open. “Wh—WHAT?! Excuse me?! You—you can’t just—”He finally glanced at me, one brow arching in that annoying I’ve already made my decision way. “Lisa. Stay here. Rest.”Rest?! Ohhh nooo. Nope nope nope. “Urmm—ahhh—rest?? After you just dropped a BOMB about creepy elder guys and mysterious alpha marks and scary aur
Lisa’s POVThe water dripped down my arms as I shut the faucet, steam curling all around us like a soft little fog. Heri was towel-wrapped, tiny and blinking at me with that sleepy face she always made after a hot bath. My own hair was plastered wet against my cheeks, sticking to my neck. I wrung out the ends, shivering a little but not because of the cold.Because of that mark.It was still burning in my mind. But she didn’t even… care. Like, hello? Big suspicious alpha mark stamped on your back and she’s just—meh, shrug, “oh yeah, family said it’s normal.” Normal?! Whaaaat?!“Urmm…” I mumbled under my breath, clutching my towel tighter. “Not normal at all, Lisa, nope nope nope. Totally weird. Totally important. Totally something I gotta—ahhh…”“Lisa?” Heri tilted her head at me, her damp hair dripping onto the towel. “Why are you making faces?”“Wh—faces? Me? N-nooope, no faces, all good, totally good, yup!” I squeaked, scrambling for the door before she could stare too long. “C-com
