Kael sat there for hours. Watching wolves train beneath—or rather thinking about his decision concerning Lyra.

“You should check on her.”

“No matter how hard i try to keep her out of my mind, she keeps coming right back,” he thought.

“You’re only checking on her for humanity sake.”

Kael ran his hands through his hair. Then without waiting another second, he stood up and walked down the watch tower.

He waved at Lucan and Laura in the ring as he walked past and out of the hall.

Selene came behind him quietly.

Kael was just about turning the corridor that led to his chamber when Selene stepped into his path.

“Alpha,” she called.

He didn’t stop.

She increased her pace. “Kael!”

He paused.

“Why didn’t you answer me?” Selene asked, stepping in front of him.

Kael tilted his head slightly.

“We need to talk.”

“No,” he said. “You need to listen.”

She crossed her arms. “I’ve been patient. I’ve watched. I’ve waited.”

He said nothing.

“You owe me more than this.”
