Elora's POV

I was refilling the napkin holder when I saw him—khakis too tight with a smirk too wide for his face. He was the kind of guy who would think calling a waitress “sweetheart” was charming.

I kept my head down, hoping he’d just order and go.

But then I caught it—his hand. It was sliding low and sneaky toward Annie’s butt while she bent down to grab a dropped fork.

“Don’t,” I said, loud enough to make him freeze.

He chuckled. “Relax, babe, I was just—”

“I said don’t.” I said , cutting him off as I stepped forward. “You touch her, and I’ll make sure your fingers bend the wrong way before you even think of ‘just joking’ again.”

His smirk dropped. He looked around like someone might back him up, but no one did.

“I—I was leaving anyway,” he mumbled, retreating like a kicked dog.

Annie straightened, still holding the fork, eyes wide. “Elora…”

“You okay?” I asked, my tone softening.

She nodded slowly, a small laugh escaping her lips. “I think you just became my favorite person ever.”

“Yeah, well,” I said, grabbing the fork and tossing it with part of the dirty dishes I had just picked up. “Don't get used to it.”

She smiled awkwardly, knowing I meant those words. This was my first time acting out of character, and it felt oddly out of place.

I wasn't the social type. Well, I was, but I decided to not be while working around Omegas.

The only person I could easily talk to was Laura.

Actually, she knew a lot about me, more than I ever intended for her to know.

"What are you thinking about?" Laura said, pulling me out of my thoughts.

"Nothing," I said simply.

She shrugged, before her eyes beamed with amusement. "Oh, and that was cool—" She pointed towards Annie. "I'm sure they're going to see you as more than just a weird Brunette."

I chuckled. "Just what I was avoiding."

Suddenly, my alarm rang.

"I guess that's your cue to leave," She said.

"Yeah it is."

She smiled. "Say hi to the little one for me."

I nodded, giving her a hug before heading towards the changing room. When I was done, I went out through the back door.

In less than an hour, I was at the cemetery, facing Katelyn's gravestone.

Since we couldn't get to see what she looked like, we didn't have any picture to put there.

The only thing that marked it was the names, "Katelyn Dawn," that had been engraved into the top of the cemented grave.

Her grave didn't look very dirty. It was like someone had been here a few weeks ago.

I dropped the flowers I had bought on my way, staring at the engraved spot.

I couldn't help but think about how she would've looked if she had actually been born.

After she was taken out of me through surgery, Zeke had ordered that she should be thrown away. So I didn't even get a glimpse of her.

I didn't get to see the color of her eyes, or the color of her hair. Was her hair brown like mine? Or red like Zeke's? Was her eyes as blue as the sea, or brown like the tree trunks in the woods, just like Zeke's?

His eyes always reminded me of my first shift.

I was eighteen when it happened. I had recently been told about Dad's death.

The then Alpha's daughter, Mira, had pushed me as usual, slamming my back into a locker.

"What's up little freak?" She had asked , a smirk curving her lips. "How's being alone been treating you?"

I had tried to ignore her as always, pushing her out of my way. But her next words made me freeze.

"No wonder your father was killed," She purred. "I'm sure he has been longing to rid himself of a weirdo like—"

Before she could complete the words, I grabbed her hair, dragging her into an empty class.

The next few minutes were filled with lots of screams and blood, but neither of them were mine.

Still, it wasn't enough to quench the anger that her words had ignited in me. So I ran away, towards the woods, as fast as I could, and that was when it happened.

Born breaking, flesh tearing, muscle stretching sounds filled the air, mixed with my screams.

I didn't know what was happening. All I knew was that my body was changing—painfully—and I wanted it to stop.

I didn't know how long I was out, but then I felt someone tapping me, calling out my name.

When I blinked my eyes open, there they were—eyes as brown as the desert underneath the setting sun—staring at me.

But now when I needed those same eyes, they weren't here.

It was over two hours, and yet, Zeke still wasn't here. He didn't show up. Not for me—our daughter—or our marriage.

I returned back to the restaurant since my shift was over, heading in through the back door.

But then, I heard noise—more like an argument—coming from the front desk.

I moved closer, trying to understand what was going on.

"I'm sorry, but you have to leave!" Someone yelled.

I didn't have to look to know it was Laura. But a part of me wanted to know who had awakened the beast in her.

I moved, about to cross into the main dining area when Annie blocked my path.

"Laura told us not to let you by," She muttered, her hands up.

But it was too late. My eyes looked past her shoulders, and I was stunned.

It was Charlotte. She was the one Laura was yelling at.

But what shocked me the most was the red-headed figure behind her.

It was Zeke.

Lloyd's POVAs Elora helped Zack up, I blinked. He was really wounded. The impact of Elora's blow was devastating. He dusted himself and I walked towards him, just as Elora walked away. “Zack,” I called and he looked my way. “Well, you look pretty messed up.” My chuckle came out dry.“Yeah,” he looked himself over. “I guess your top elite is the real challenge around here. She's got what it takes for real combat.” His voice was a strangled wheeze.“I warned you not to underestimate her,” I reminded him. “But you didn't listen.”Zack snickered. “Guess what? I never did. I just didn't know…it didn't occur to me that I was fighting with…I should have overestimated her.”I shook my head, unusually happy. Perhaps it was a good thing that Elora stepped up and still won. It was true that I was glad to make Zack’s acquaintance, but I didn't want to get so close to him that fast. Defeating all my betas would have made him top elite and automatically my right hand man, forcing Elora to step

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   075_Mysterious Victory

Elora's POVZack was down, eyes closed, his hair a mess of sand and blood. He was still breathing, but he was messed up and badly wounded. My stick was pointed at a critical point of his neck. If this was an actual fight and I had a blade, today would be the end of Zack. What baffled me the most was what happened during the fight. When Zack struck me the second time and my eyes sizzled with warmth, it was as if my body acted of its own accord. All I had to do was to lean into the moves. My fingers tickled with warmth, the same warmth rushing through my veins. It felt awesome and scary at the same time. I was scared because I had seen the fighting moves I used today somewhere. I could bet on it.Feet padded towards me and in an instant I was surrounded by betas. My eyes caught a glimpse of their shoes and I wondered what they would be thinking right now. My fingers still pulsed with faint energy, but it was there and it was obvious. My eyes darted from Zack's neck to my arm,

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   074_Warrior or Mage

Lloyd's POVI blinked, eyes wide at what I was looking at. What the hell was going on? The fight had begun with them talking, and while I heard their conversations, I didn't expect Zack to fight with such anger. He had taken the first swing, but Elora bounced back, avoiding him. For someone who promised he was going to go easy on Elora, this wasn't going easy. Zack was enraged. At this point, every nerve in me screamed to end the fight, but I couldn't. Ending the fight meant I'd have to fight Zack or surrender Elora’s position, and I wasn't ready to do either of those. Elora still had to be by my side, and the last thing I wanted to do with someone I’d started considering a friend was to fight him. Xavier glanced at me briefly. “This is going worse than I thought.”When I tried to reply, my mouth went dry, and I pressed my lips shut. Zack moved fast, his strokes landing with precision and impact. Elora parried with her own stick, keeping up, but struggling to match Zack’s speed

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   073_Impossible!

Elora's POVWhat the hell just happened? Ragnar was the best youngest fighter around here. He was good. I knew that when I fought him. How the hell did this guy manage to win? What the hell went wrong? I wanted to walk into the fighting ground when Lloyd stretched his hand sideways, stopping me.“What the hell?” I glared at him. “Somebody's got to help Ragnar.”“Yeah,” he said, sparing me a brief glance. “Somebody's got to, and they are.”I turned back to the training ground to see a few betas hurrying towards Ragnar. Xavier approached us. “That was very creepy,” Xavier said as he approached. “How in the world did he do that?"“Newsflash,” I frowned. “Your alpha thinks it's perfectly normal.” Ragnar stood with reasonable difficulty, trying to dust himself off. With the way he leaped, I knew the fall was grave. He would heal quickly though because he was a werewolf, but I pitied him all the same. With my hands anchored on the side of my chin, I leaned forward and screamed. “Ragnar

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   072_Worrisome Questions

Lloyd's POVWith Zack Biko around, my thoughts had completely left Elora. Zack was not just a good distraction, he was a good fighter. With this kind of man by my side, fighting and dealing with sorcery is going to be much easier. Elora could fight, but each time I go on a mission with her, I am usually overwhelmed with the sense of protecting her. Xavier wasn't getting any younger and Ragnar is the only young, strong beta I had. With this guy as an extra addition to my team, we'd have real improvements. When I noticed Elora standing at the sidelines beside Xavier. I waved, knowing the reason for her anger. She waved back, sending a glare my way.I could understand and I could relate. I should have informed her before pulling the kind of strings I pulled. But the issue is that I felt I was getting too attached to her, so I was working on fixing that anomaly.I'd explain things to her later and that would be the end of it. Right now, Zack was giving me a good show and I should t

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   071_Training Surprise

Elora's POVI walked inside the assembly hall, expecting to meet Xavier, Ragnar or Lloyd, but everywhere was empty. The only people I saw were a few stewards running different errands. Glancing this way and that way, I wondered what was going on. I knew today was our training day, but we don't begin training this early. The whole idea of coming this early was to have some time with Lloyd and possibly explain the recent events at the house to him but he was nowhere to be found. After a moment of looking around, I decided to check the training ground. When I got there, I ran into Xavier returning to the hall. “Hey, Elora, you're here,” he said.“Xavier,” I gave him a small smile. “I am. The house is desolate.”“Yeah,” he nodded, glancing back. “Every beta is at the training ground now.”I glanced past his shoulders but I couldn't make anything out but betas loitering. “Why?”Xavier met my gaze. “There's this new guy. Said he's a beta. And then Lloyd comes up with this insane plan t
