Elora's POV

I was refilling the napkin holder when I saw him—khakis too tight with a smirk too wide for his face. He was the kind of guy who would think calling a waitress “sweetheart” was charming.

I kept my head down, hoping he’d just order and go.

But then I caught it—his hand. It was sliding low and sneaky toward Annie’s butt while she bent down to grab a dropped fork.

“Don’t,” I said, loud enough to make him freeze.

He chuckled. “Relax, babe, I was just—”

“I said don’t.” I said , cutting him off as I stepped forward. “You touch her, and I’ll make sure your fingers bend the wrong way before you even think of ‘just joking’ again.”

His smirk dropped. He looked around like someone might back him up, but no one did.

“I—I was leaving anyway,” he mumbled, retreating like a kicked dog.

Annie straightened, still holding the fork, eyes wide. “Elora…”

“You okay?” I asked, my tone softening.

She nodded slowly, a small laugh escaping her lips. “I think you just became my favorite person ever.”

“Yeah, well,” I said, grabbing the fork and tossing it with part of the dirty dishes I had just picked up. “Don't get used to it.”

She smiled awkwardly, knowing I meant those words. This was my first time acting out of character, and it felt oddly out of place.

I wasn't the social type. Well, I was, but I decided to not be while working around Omegas.

The only person I could easily talk to was Laura.

Actually, she knew a lot about me, more than I ever intended for her to know.

"What are you thinking about?" Laura said, pulling me out of my thoughts.

"Nothing," I said simply.

She shrugged, before her eyes beamed with amusement. "Oh, and that was cool—" She pointed towards Annie. "I'm sure they're going to see you as more than just a weird Brunette."

I chuckled. "Just what I was avoiding."

Suddenly, my alarm rang.

"I guess that's your cue to leave," She said.

"Yeah it is."

She smiled. "Say hi to the little one for me."

I nodded, giving her a hug before heading towards the changing room. When I was done, I went out through the back door.

In less than an hour, I was at the cemetery, facing Katelyn's gravestone.

Since we couldn't get to see what she looked like, we didn't have any picture to put there.

The only thing that marked it was the names, "Katelyn Dawn," that had been engraved into the top of the cemented grave.

Her grave didn't look very dirty. It was like someone had been here a few weeks ago.

I dropped the flowers I had bought on my way, staring at the engraved spot.

I couldn't help but think about how she would've looked if she had actually been born.

After she was taken out of me through surgery, Zeke had ordered that she should be thrown away. So I didn't even get a glimpse of her.

I didn't get to see the color of her eyes, or the color of her hair. Was her hair brown like mine? Or red like Zeke's? Was her eyes as blue as the sea, or brown like the tree trunks in the woods, just like Zeke's?

His eyes always reminded me of my first shift.

I was eighteen when it happened. I had recently been told about Dad's death.

The then Alpha's daughter, Mira, had pushed me as usual, slamming my back into a locker.

"What's up little freak?" She had asked , a smirk curving her lips. "How's being alone been treating you?"

I had tried to ignore her as always, pushing her out of my way. But her next words made me freeze.

"No wonder your father was killed," She purred. "I'm sure he has been longing to rid himself of a weirdo like—"

Before she could complete the words, I grabbed her hair, dragging her into an empty class.

The next few minutes were filled with lots of screams and blood, but neither of them were mine.

Still, it wasn't enough to quench the anger that her words had ignited in me. So I ran away, towards the woods, as fast as I could, and that was when it happened.

Born breaking, flesh tearing, muscle stretching sounds filled the air, mixed with my screams.

I didn't know what was happening. All I knew was that my body was changing—painfully—and I wanted it to stop.

I didn't know how long I was out, but then I felt someone tapping me, calling out my name.

When I blinked my eyes open, there they were—eyes as brown as the desert underneath the setting sun—staring at me.

But now when I needed those same eyes, they weren't here.

It was over two hours, and yet, Zeke still wasn't here. He didn't show up. Not for me—our daughter—or our marriage.

I returned back to the restaurant since my shift was over, heading in through the back door.

But then, I heard noise—more like an argument—coming from the front desk.

I moved closer, trying to understand what was going on.

"I'm sorry, but you have to leave!" Someone yelled.

I didn't have to look to know it was Laura. But a part of me wanted to know who had awakened the beast in her.

I moved, about to cross into the main dining area when Annie blocked my path.

"Laura told us not to let you by," She muttered, her hands up.

But it was too late. My eyes looked past her shoulders, and I was stunned.

It was Charlotte. She was the one Laura was yelling at.

But what shocked me the most was the red-headed figure behind her.

It was Zeke.

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   225_A New Beginning

Elora's POVMy eyes flipped open as a door ahead swung open and a figure walked in, a band-aid wrapped around his forehead. He looked dashing in a dark suit over a dark hoodie, and I thought he was heading somewhere. “Hey,” he breathed. “You’re up.”Before I could move, he was beside me in an instant, helping me sit up. I glanced around to see that I was in Lloyd’s room, back at the Alpha house. For a moment, my head was blank.“What’s going on?” I asked Lloyd.“Well, we can start with the goodnews,” he grinned. “You vanquished the darkness.”“Is there any bad news?” I blinked. “Wait, what’s going on—”A sharp pain came to my temple, and I pressed against the area, closing my eyes as the memories flooded back. I jumped. “The Goth! We need to—”“Hey, listen,” he held me back. “Look at me, okay. It’s done. You’re safe now. We destroyed it. You destroyed it.”I went calm, but my chest ached. “What about Davina?”“Unfortunately…” He didn’t need to finish for me to understand the messa

Elora's POVThe single cloud of darkness slowly descending towards me crackled with powerful energy, flashes of lightning coming on and off. Mira’s laugh echoed through the room amid the noise in a devastating way. I looked back at her. “You’re not human!” I snapped. “It would really profit you to kill a set of people, just to introduce a wicked spirit into this world for your selfish gains.”From the darkness, another figure emerged, joining Mira and Zeke “I’m glad all of this was worth it. We didn’t labour in vain.”Zack Biko.As he finished his statement, he bowed instantly. “The terrible one that rules over darkness and the Circle of your loyal network, I submit to you. I will serve, and I will be of service.”I growled. “I knew from the beginning that you were dark. I just wish the people with me could have understood sooner.”Zack didn’t move from his prostrated position until a thunderclap so hard that I thought I might be deafened the next moment sounded, then the voice of m

Lloyd's POVI woke up to a violent shaking and a numb pain in my left shoulder. My eyes flipped open to meet a young lady I’ve only seen around Zeke once. My eyes widened as I pushed her off.“Get away from me,” I warned. She staggered, and I made to stand to my feet, she grabbed my leg. “Please, I need your help,” she cried. “We’re in the same situation here.”I hesitated, then stopped. “Let me go, then speak.”She lingered, then tentatively let go of my leg and stood to her full height, fear written over her face. “I’m Charlotte, and we’re fighting the same thing,” she said. “I can help you find what you’re looking for, if you can help me—”“I don’t have time for this,” I growled and walked off. She stepped into my way, stopping me. “Sorry, sorry,” she apologized. “I mean, I know where Elora is. I can help you find her.”“I’m listening,” I gave her my attention.“The Crimson Circle is trying to summon the Ascendant into Elora’s body as its host. If they succeed, Elora will becom

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   222_The True Villain

Elora's POVThe first thing I became aware of the moment I woke up was the tight bands around my arms and legs, pressing me against cold metal. No, earth. No, concrete. I flipped my eyes open, my head aching numbly. As I recognized my surroundings, I shuddered. I wasn’t in any random place. I was in the nexus. The Crimson Circle’s Nexus. The confusion that overwhelmed me didn’t last long before dread set in. I was sitting on the large, concrete tone in the large room, held against it by invisible bands over my hands, stomach, and thighs. I couldn’t even teeter because of the strength of the force that held me down there. I tried to reach into my core for magic and felt the energy snuffed out like wind blowing over fire.“What the hell…” I muttered under my breath, glancing around. Unlike the usual setting, the large room was dark, with a small, weak light overhead, lighting the area around me. I tried to reach out to my magic again and failed, then it hit me. The Crimson Circ

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   221_The Height of Heist

Elora's POVStanding before me in the visitor’s room was Zeke, the ashen pendant hanging in his hand, encrypted letters and envelopes he had managed to keep hidden scattered all over the floor. Dressed in an immaculate suit that gleamed in the light, his face was anything but immaculate. “Did you really think I was going to let you walk out of this place alive?” he snarled. “I mean, I’d be stupid to do so after giving you this invaluable piece of information. You shouldn’t live to tell the story.”“Zeke, I don’t know what you have up your sleeves.” I took a step backwards. “But I’ll have you know that sorcery doesn’t work on me.”“You think this is sorcery?” He fumbled with the pendant's neck. “This is pure hi-tech. Just not from flimsy science. This is the height of the supernatural.”“Can you listen to yourself?” I gave him a look of disgust. “Appraising darkness and sorcery.”“It makes things work, weirdo,” he cried, the word ‘weirdo’ taking me aback. “Sorcery made me rich. • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   220_The Hidden Pages

Lloyd's POVAs I gave her the book, I wondered what she would do with it. The pages were blank for no reason, except for the middle page that had a drawing I’d only seen Mira draw at some point. But at this point, she was struggling to believe anything I said, so holding back the book from her wasn’t exactly helping.Memories of telling Lord Henry Stark that the idea of keeping things from her daughter was insane, and I shuddered a little. All of the things I thought would happen had played out as I anticipated. Elora wasn’t supposed to find these things because I had to keep them here. At the same time, the Crimson Circle was combing the realms for us, so this safehouse was the only option I had for safety. We’d go back to the Alpha house once I was certain everywhere was safe. But then…“This can’t be happening,” Elora gasped.I moved without thinking, rushing to her side. “What’s wrong?”“I can read this,” she gave me a sidelong glance. “I can read it.”Right before my eyes,
