Elora's POV

I was refilling the napkin holder when I saw him—khakis too tight with a smirk too wide for his face. He was the kind of guy who would think calling a waitress “sweetheart” was charming.

I kept my head down, hoping he’d just order and go.

But then I caught it—his hand. It was sliding low and sneaky toward Annie’s butt while she bent down to grab a dropped fork.

“Don’t,” I said, loud enough to make him freeze.

He chuckled. “Relax, babe, I was just—”

“I said don’t.” I said , cutting him off as I stepped forward. “You touch her, and I’ll make sure your fingers bend the wrong way before you even think of ‘just joking’ again.”

His smirk dropped. He looked around like someone might back him up, but no one did.

“I—I was leaving anyway,” he mumbled, retreating like a kicked dog.

Annie straightened, still holding the fork, eyes wide. “Elora…”

“You okay?” I asked, my tone softening.

She nodded slowly, a small laugh escaping her lips. “I think you just became my favorite person ever.”

“Yeah, well,” I said, grabbing the fork and tossing it with part of the dirty dishes I had just picked up. “Don't get used to it.”

She smiled awkwardly, knowing I meant those words. This was my first time acting out of character, and it felt oddly out of place.

I wasn't the social type. Well, I was, but I decided to not be while working around Omegas.

The only person I could easily talk to was Laura.

Actually, she knew a lot about me, more than I ever intended for her to know.

"What are you thinking about?" Laura said, pulling me out of my thoughts.

"Nothing," I said simply.

She shrugged, before her eyes beamed with amusement. "Oh, and that was cool—" She pointed towards Annie. "I'm sure they're going to see you as more than just a weird Brunette."

I chuckled. "Just what I was avoiding."

Suddenly, my alarm rang.

"I guess that's your cue to leave," She said.

"Yeah it is."

She smiled. "Say hi to the little one for me."

I nodded, giving her a hug before heading towards the changing room. When I was done, I went out through the back door.

In less than an hour, I was at the cemetery, facing Katelyn's gravestone.

Since we couldn't get to see what she looked like, we didn't have any picture to put there.

The only thing that marked it was the names, "Katelyn Dawn," that had been engraved into the top of the cemented grave.

Her grave didn't look very dirty. It was like someone had been here a few weeks ago.

I dropped the flowers I had bought on my way, staring at the engraved spot.

I couldn't help but think about how she would've looked if she had actually been born.

After she was taken out of me through surgery, Zeke had ordered that she should be thrown away. So I didn't even get a glimpse of her.

I didn't get to see the color of her eyes, or the color of her hair. Was her hair brown like mine? Or red like Zeke's? Was her eyes as blue as the sea, or brown like the tree trunks in the woods, just like Zeke's?

His eyes always reminded me of my first shift.

I was eighteen when it happened. I had recently been told about Dad's death.

The then Alpha's daughter, Mira, had pushed me as usual, slamming my back into a locker.

"What's up little freak?" She had asked , a smirk curving her lips. "How's being alone been treating you?"

I had tried to ignore her as always, pushing her out of my way. But her next words made me freeze.

"No wonder your father was killed," She purred. "I'm sure he has been longing to rid himself of a weirdo like—"

Before she could complete the words, I grabbed her hair, dragging her into an empty class.

The next few minutes were filled with lots of screams and blood, but neither of them were mine.

Still, it wasn't enough to quench the anger that her words had ignited in me. So I ran away, towards the woods, as fast as I could, and that was when it happened.

Born breaking, flesh tearing, muscle stretching sounds filled the air, mixed with my screams.

I didn't know what was happening. All I knew was that my body was changing—painfully—and I wanted it to stop.

I didn't know how long I was out, but then I felt someone tapping me, calling out my name.

When I blinked my eyes open, there they were—eyes as brown as the desert underneath the setting sun—staring at me.

But now when I needed those same eyes, they weren't here.

It was over two hours, and yet, Zeke still wasn't here. He didn't show up. Not for me—our daughter—or our marriage.

I returned back to the restaurant since my shift was over, heading in through the back door.

But then, I heard noise—more like an argument—coming from the front desk.

I moved closer, trying to understand what was going on.

"I'm sorry, but you have to leave!" Someone yelled.

I didn't have to look to know it was Laura. But a part of me wanted to know who had awakened the beast in her.

I moved, about to cross into the main dining area when Annie blocked my path.

"Laura told us not to let you by," She muttered, her hands up.

But it was too late. My eyes looked past her shoulders, and I was stunned.

It was Charlotte. She was the one Laura was yelling at.

But what shocked me the most was the red-headed figure behind her.

It was Zeke.

Elora's POVI glanced from the slightly muscular man so eager to fight me to Klaus, and a scoff left me before I could put my thoughts together. “So, this is the guy you want me to beat,” I purred.Klaus tilted his head slightly to the side. “Do you have any contrary opinion? And oh, if you can’t handle the heat, feel free to admit that, love.” He bared his teeth in a dirty grin. I turned from him to the man, smiling smugly now.“This is your chance to apologize and walk away,” he smiled. “Who knows, I might be lenient enough to persuade my boss and won’t have to fight you.”“You should be careful how you talk, young man,” I replied, voice low but firm. “The vessels with the most noise are the ones with nothing in them.”“We’ll see who’s the empty vessel by the end of today,” he frowned, pressing his knuckles together. I took him in, noticing his stance. His feet were wide apart, and he hunched slightly, his eyes watching my every move. This guy is a brawler, I noted. As I took a

Lloyd's POVI was still standing in my study with Davina, who sort of thinks that staying away from hunting my missing beta would somehow miraculously solve my problems. Was she okay? What was she thinking? “Let me through, Davina,” I growled. “The more we waste time here, the more things get more serious. Not like you understand that.”“I’m not going to let you through here until I can exactly determine where Elora is at the moment.“Then get the damn show underway already,” I cried. “Find Elora if you have to. Just let me go and find her.”Davina frowned at me, then stormed out of the room. I tried to walk out after her when I slammed into the barrier again and staggering back.“Great,” I hissed. “Just great when you have witchy-bitchy in your house. Now, I’m in some magical house arrest in my own hours for caring.”I headed back to the couch and dropped in, leaning back and trying to stay calm, but it was so difficult. There was no telling where Elora was now, and what bad shit sh

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   17_Dealing with a Loaer

Elora's POVMy hands folded into fist, but I was careful not to reach to my core of energy. There’s no telling who’s in the darkness there, and considering the circumstances surrounding my family, revealing who I am at this point would be a silly thing to do. From the darkness, stern faces approached me, eyes sizzling with a yellow glow, some of them baring their teeth in a snarl. A couple cracked their knuckles, while some others held their swords in such a way that I should see it. I turned around slowly as I took them all in, closing in on me in a big circle. At this rate, it would be impossible to defeat these much people. But if I reach into my core of energy, I can kill them all in one swoop. A smart plan, but that also meant revealing that you’re a mage to anyone who could be watching from anywhere. The rogues approaching me suddenly froze in their track like they were in a kind of rehearsal, and I blinked. From how they stood, they had formed a large circle around me at

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   177_A Memory of Her

Lloyd's POVThe rest of the day was spent grilling the sorcerers we had in the dungeon for a couple of weeks, and to be honest. With just me and Xavier having to do the job, I missed having Elora around. She had stormed out after the conversation we had in my bedroom, and since then, no one had heard from her.Done with another round of grilling, I stepped out from the basement to meet Ragnar standing with the omega Tanya. She handed me a towel dipped in cold water, and I pressed it against my face before drawing a deep breath from the fresh air around me.“I’m going for another break, Ragnar,” I stated. “I’m sure Xavier could use a hand down there.”He nodded and went down to the basement. I headed towards the main entrance of the Alpha House in long, powerful strides. When I got to my study, I dropped into one of the couches in the room, pulling my phone out of my pocket and dialing Elora’s number. It rang for a moment before her voicemail voice took over. “This is Elora, and I

Elora's POVIn a bid to get away from Lloyd as fast as possible, I made my first stop at my former workplace. As I walked in, adjusting my mitpachat, I glanced around, surprised that Laura wasn’t at her duty post.In her place was a brunette, whose porcelain skin seemed a little too bright. She bared her teeth at a middle-aged man, who returned the favor, before turning around and breezing past me.When I got close, tentatively, the woman shot the same lottery-winning grin at me, waving me over. I headed to the counter. “How may I help you?” I glanced this way and that way, this time, taking my time to notice every nook and cranny of the restaurant before turning back to the brunette. “I’m looking for a Laura Connor,” I breathed. The woman’s grin seemed to widen, despite having gotten to his limits. “Oh, you don’t have to worry. She’s in the—”“The top elite herself,” I heard a familiar voice flow a clap as a familiar face approached me from an entrance at the side. “It’s really

Lloyd's POVShe was still holding the collar of my shirt tight, but she was pulling. I wanted to grab her hand, to shove her away, but I couldn’t. I wanted her to feel how I felt when she left that night, even when I told her that it was a bad idea. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that she knew it was a bad idea and still decided to go ahead with it intentionally. After a moment of suffocating silence, I broke it.“You did this to yourself.”She let go of my shirt quickly, taking a step back with a blink. “What?”“I remember telling you that there could be another way,” I purred.“And I told you it was our only chance,” she shot back. “We were in a lose-lose situation.”“We’ve been in worse,” I added. “And we survive without compromise.”She turned away, walking back to the floor-to-ceiling mirror in the room. “I did what I had to do,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “I told you not to,” I said again, defiant. She spun around. “Well, I went ahead and did it.
