Lloyd’s POV

I pushed the door to my study open and stepped inside, closing it without looking back.

Crossing the room, I sank into my desk chair and leaned back, resting my head and closing my eyes.

Elora’s argument about Zack floated back to me and I wondered why she was kicking so hard against him. The same with Xavier.

Was there something they knew that I didn’t know? It didn’t make sense.

If either of them knew something, the least they could do is to tell me about it. Not leaving me in the dark like I didn’t know what was going on and expect me to figure it out.

“There’s something shady about him,” I muttered Elora’s phrase. If there was something shady about him, should I have seen it too?

I began analyzing everything that Elora mentioned about Zack’s first day, and I failed to find out what was wrong.

The sorcery talk being the first and only thing we talked about could be a coincidence. I mean, if there was anything that wasn’t right, I should have seen it right away.

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   182_Psychology of Magic

Elora's POVThe warm feel of the cabin was a sharp contrast to the cold in the darkness outside. The cabin was enveloped in the usual orange glow from the lamps overhead, and I was sitting in the dining area of Kael’s cabin. He wrapped a final band aid over my slashed palm, hooking it in place.“That should do the trick,” he said in a low grunt. “Some of the dark magic already made it into your bloodstream, and it will inevitably slow the healing down, but by tomorrow morning, everything should disappear without a trace.”“Thank you, Kael,” I turned the band aid over and over in the air, before placing it on the table top softly. “I really hope this heals as quickly as you claim. I don’t want to have to explain to Lloyd why I have another bandaid on my arm.”“And speaking of,” Kael pulled the wooden seat before me and sat. “Why the hell didn’t you inform your alpha that you were going to see a group of ruffians?”I sighed, putting my head in my palm. “You know how Lloyd can be,” I

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   181_Evidence in the Sand

Lloyd's POVWith Davina’s direction, Xavier slid into a dark street, his speed mild. I sat beside him, staring into the distance where an orange light flooded the crossroads ahead. It reminded me of the crossroads demons I’d heard in folklore growing up, and I shrugged the thought off. When we got to the crossroads, the blood spot in the map I was holding stopped moving, Xavier and I exchanged glances, and he broke the silence.“Are you sure we should trust the map that bitchy gave you?”I shook my head. “But I don’t see a reason why she’d lie after what she did before now.”“You’re saying you find reasons to believe her?”I looked at him. “I’m saying we don’t have much of a choice.”With another glance at the old map, I stepped down from the car, folding the parchment in two. Xavier joined me, the car engine going off, making way for dry silence. The only sounds in the air was the echoing of our boots on the asphalt and the tiny screeches of crickets in the distance. I drew in a b

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   180_Thrills of Victory

Elora's POVI glanced from the slightly muscular man so eager to fight me to Klaus, and a scoff left me before I could put my thoughts together. “So, this is the guy you want me to beat,” I purred.Klaus tilted his head slightly to the side. “Do you have any contrary opinion? And oh, if you can’t handle the heat, feel free to admit that, love.” He bared his teeth in a dirty grin. I turned from him to the man, smiling smugly now.“This is your chance to apologize and walk away,” he smiled. “Who knows, I might be lenient enough to persuade my boss and won’t have to fight you.”“You should be careful how you talk, young man,” I replied, voice low but firm. “The vessels with the most noise are the ones with nothing in them.”“We’ll see who’s the empty vessel by the end of today,” he frowned, pressing his knuckles together. I took him in, noticing his stance. His feet were wide apart, and he hunched slightly, his eyes watching my every move. This guy is a brawler, I noted. As I took a

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   179_Vexations from Witches

Lloyd's POVI was still standing in my study with Davina, who sort of thinks that staying away from hunting my missing beta would somehow miraculously solve my problems. Was she okay? What was she thinking? “Let me through, Davina,” I growled. “The more we waste time here, the more things get more serious. Not like you understand that.”“I’m not going to let you through here until I can exactly determine where Elora is at the moment.“Then get the damn show underway already,” I cried. “Find Elora if you have to. Just let me go and find her.”Davina frowned at me, then stormed out of the room. I tried to walk out after her when I slammed into the barrier again and staggering back.“Great,” I hissed. “Just great when you have witchy-bitchy in your house. Now, I’m in some magical house arrest in my own hours for caring.”I headed back to the couch and dropped in, leaning back and trying to stay calm, but it was so difficult. There was no telling where Elora was now, and what bad shit sh

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   17_Dealing with a Loaer

Elora's POVMy hands folded into fist, but I was careful not to reach to my core of energy. There’s no telling who’s in the darkness there, and considering the circumstances surrounding my family, revealing who I am at this point would be a silly thing to do. From the darkness, stern faces approached me, eyes sizzling with a yellow glow, some of them baring their teeth in a snarl. A couple cracked their knuckles, while some others held their swords in such a way that I should see it. I turned around slowly as I took them all in, closing in on me in a big circle. At this rate, it would be impossible to defeat these much people. But if I reach into my core of energy, I can kill them all in one swoop. A smart plan, but that also meant revealing that you’re a mage to anyone who could be watching from anywhere. The rogues approaching me suddenly froze in their track like they were in a kind of rehearsal, and I blinked. From how they stood, they had formed a large circle around me at

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   177_A Memory of Her

Lloyd's POVThe rest of the day was spent grilling the sorcerers we had in the dungeon for a couple of weeks, and to be honest. With just me and Xavier having to do the job, I missed having Elora around. She had stormed out after the conversation we had in my bedroom, and since then, no one had heard from her.Done with another round of grilling, I stepped out from the basement to meet Ragnar standing with the omega Tanya. She handed me a towel dipped in cold water, and I pressed it against my face before drawing a deep breath from the fresh air around me.“I’m going for another break, Ragnar,” I stated. “I’m sure Xavier could use a hand down there.”He nodded and went down to the basement. I headed towards the main entrance of the Alpha House in long, powerful strides. When I got to my study, I dropped into one of the couches in the room, pulling my phone out of my pocket and dialing Elora’s number. It rang for a moment before her voicemail voice took over. “This is Elora, and I
