Elora's POV

When we approached the bouncer before the door, he eyed us warily, bald head and bushy chinstrap curtain making him look menacing.

My chest tightened as we approached him, and my thundering heart threatened to jump out of my chest, as I struggled to breathe normally.

Davina touched my arm slightly and spoke in my head.

“Get your shits together, Stark,” her voice was a huff. “Make this easy for both of us.”

“I’m trying,” I replied in her head.

“Passes,” the husky man offered a hand, eyes narrow.

Davina presented hers with a flourish.

As I handed my pass, my hands shook a little. The man snatched it and lifted it in the air, eyes narrow as he examined it.

“Did you think someone could fake those passes?” Davina huffed aloud at the man.

He grunted. “Some have done it before. Travelers. You both radiate the same magical energy. I need to be sure.”

“I see,” Davina grumbled. “Make it quick. You’re boring me.”

The man turned the card again and again, then lifted the other car

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   193_Back to the Labyrinth

Elora's POVWhen I walked through the darkness-filled entrance, I was surprised to find myself in a familiar place. The ground was clay, and I was surrounded by cave walls with markings glowing brightly and faintly. For a moment, I didn’t move. I looked this way and that way, just to be sure. I was in the labyrinth.I blinked. This has to be some kind of mistake. Why am I in the labyrinth? As I looked around me, glancing behind, Davina materialized before me. Her eyes widened slightly when our gaze met. “Elora,” she took a brisk few steps before me, grabbing my shoulder and pressing my arms so hard. “Uh… Davina?”“I wanted to be sure you were not an illusion,” she said.“Well, I’m not.” I frowned a little. “Why are we in the labyrinth?” Davina shook her head. “This is supposed to be an illusion.” She made the gesture she did inside the school building, and I looked around, waiting for the atmosphere to shimmer. Nothing happened.“Uh… did you cast the spell correctly?” I asked, l

Lloyd's POV“Are you sure?” I directed my question at Davina, who was looking out the window.“I am so sure,” she shot back, pulling her gaze back to her phone. “It’s the reason I typed the address into this map thing Xavier suggested. Works like the maps we used back in the day. Only better and a little bit stubborn.”“Can I take a look?” Elora asked.Davina craned her neck back, before handing over her phone. On the screen was a map with a blinking red dot. I pulled out the card Mira gave us at the ball from my purse and glanced at the address on it, comparing it with what was on the phone.“She’s right,” I replied after a moment. “This is the place.”I followed everyone’s gaze to the window, where a high school building was standing. “Why in the seven hells would they choose a school as their first stop?”“Because no sane person would think to check out a high school in the middle of the night,” Davina retorted. “These guys have a strong system.” She opened the car door and ste

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   189_Tenets of Emotions

Elora's POVIn the evening of our infiltration into the crimson circle, I stood at my balcony, overlooking the courtyard, where omegas and betas hurried from one corner to the other, eyes intent on their businesses. The night was dark, with a few spots of stars scattered over the sky. The wind that evening rustled my hair and dress gently, and my grip on the concrete railing tightened.I tried every possible way to see hope in the infiltration, but all I could see was doubt and the million ways that things could possibly go wrong. What if Lloyd and Xavier fail on their own path and get caught? What if the members of the Circle call our bluff? What happens then?My skin tickled at a presence, and I turned back. Lloyd was standing at the doorway to the balcony, leaning against the doorpost.“Hey,” I called, my voice barely above a whisper.“Hey,” he responded. “How do you feel?”I didn’t answer immediately. The intensity of the wind around us increased for a moment, and I inhaled s

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   188_When Memories Resurface

Lloyd’s POVA moment of silence took over the room as Davina laid out the bomb shell. If this were what I think it is, and I literally understood Lena’s explanations of who the travelers are, then that would mean only one thing. Davina was once a necromancer.“Impossible,” Lena sat back, raking her head. “Impossible.”“You mean you used to be a dark witch?” I wagged a finger at her.She nodded to the side. “The keyword there is ‘used to’. So, the travelers are the least of your problems.”“Does mom know about this?” Lena asked Davina. “You don’t expect me to share a dark part of my past with my daughter,” Davina replied sharply. When Lena leaned back, Davina continued.“Listen, the way it happened, I was reckless. I didn’t know what I was doing. When I finally realized and walked away, the travelers were angry. Who did you think made the name for the Kimbers?”“I mean, everyone knew the Kimbers,” Elora chirped. “We know of the impact of the people before you, according to the Lore.”
