VioletIt’s going to take me hours to get to Phoenix tonight. After mine and Magnolia’s fight and make up, Cora let us back inside. There we ate and talked and laughed with Cora and Charlie. Charlie suggested we watch a movie. Magnolia met my eyes and told him she was happy to but she thought that I had something else to do.She’s not wrong. It’ll take me a couple hours to get to Phoenix, maybe longer just because I’m dreading seeing him after last night. So, I leave and shift into my wolf, carrying a dress with me as I run out to find Phoenix. He’s closer than he normally is. He knew what direction I was in so he tried to set up camp closer. He’s an hour closer to me than he should’ve been.I appreciate the effort, but it makes me feel nauseous. I’m sure he can smell my scent by now so I can’t postpone seeing him.I shift and throw on my dress before walking through the bushes and seeing him. He sits by the fire and his head lifts up to look at me. His hazel eyes practically glowing
MagnoliaOnce Violet left us to go see her mate, Charlie, Cora, and I watched a movie. Once it was done, Charlie was looking at playing a video game or watching another movie and Cora went to the kitchen. I follow her, taking advantage of this rare moment I have that I can talk to her alone. She’s washing dishes and I stand beside her drying them. My eyes flicker up to the clock, Violet’s been gone for almost three hours. I wonder how long she’ll be out for. I ask Cora, “What do you think of this whole thing with Violet and Phoenix?”Cora shakes her head softly and responds, “Personally, I don’t think it’s a good idea to question the moon goddess. She must’ve made them be destined for some reason. We might not understand it or agree with it, but that’s what she ordained.”The thought of the moon goddess makes my stomach churn with frustration. Cora seems to pick up on my frustration and asks, “What are you feeling, dearie?”She stops what she’s doing and turns to me, concern in her ey
VioletThe next morning both Magnolia and Charlie look tired. He’s now giving her the silent treatment, angry that she would even consider not taking the Female Alpha position. I understand why he’s mad, but it’s making things difficult.Surprisingly, Cora didn’t make them fight it out. After Magnolia and Charlie went their separate ways after lunch I asked her why and she told me, “The issues you and Magnolia were having were personal and needed to be worked through together. Magnolia and Charlie aren’t having those issues. He’s not going to understand her thoughts and she needs to be able to decide for herself whether or not to take the Alpha position. Even if it hurts his feelings, she needs to do what’s best for her.”I nod in understanding and tell her, “I’m going to have them come with me to meet Phoenix tonight.”She looks at me skeptically and I say, “We need to make a bond if this is going to work. Charlie and Magnolia both need to trust him at least a little bit.”“Good luck
MagnoliaI hate to admit the fact that I liked Phoenix’s answer. He seems genuine, he seems… kind behind that mysterious mask he likes to hide behind. Even my wolf, Ada, murmurs her agreement with me.There’s more to Ada than what the eye sees. I know everyone will think of her as a giant monstrosity that is powerful and capable of barreling through in battle. And she is capable, she’s well aware of it. I can feel the power within her, the pride that she has knowing what she can accomplish if she wanted to.But I believe she also has an intuition on who we can trust and whether or not they’re lying. Phoenix and his black wolf surprised us that first night, but now, seeing him in person when I’m not so shocked… his words ring true. Ada is trusting him, Violet trusts in him, I think Charlie does too. I think that my initial reaction was wrong. But I’m scared of falling into a false sense of security. I have to know, without a doubt that I can trust in him. So, I ask him more questions.
VioletWe stay for hours talking to Phoenix and by the time it’s past midnight Magnolia says, “We should head back home.”I notice the glimmer of disappointment in Phoenix’s eyes, but it’s quickly replaced with a blank stare. I need to prove to Magnolia and Charlie that we truly can trust him and there’s only one way I can think to do that. I say, “You two go on back. I’m going to stay overnight with Phoenix.”I obviously caught him off guard because he looks at me, startled. Magnolia looks at me with furrowed eyebrows as she asks, “Are you sure?”I nod as I glance at Phoenix with a small smile and say, “You two go on back. I’ll be home in the morning. He won’t hurt me, I’m safe here.”Magnolia’s gaze roams over Phoenix as if she’s trying to decide how much she trusts him right now. Charlie doesn’t care, it’s obvious that this night helped him because he seems to have trusted Phoenix from the moment he told him to do his worst if he ever hurt me.Charlie motions with his head for them
MagnoliaI pace back and forth in the dining room. It’s well past breakfast time and Violet still hasn’t come back. Frustration fuels me, my nerves are shot as I wonder if he did something to her.Cora and Charlie walk back in from tending to the garden and Cora scolds me, “Violet, you’re going to burn a hole in my floor with all that pacing.”I force myself to sit as I murmur, “Sorry.”Charlie chugs a bottle of water before putting the bottle in the sink and saying, “Come on, let’s go check on her.”Cora looks at us silently, her eyebrows raised as she silently questions us. I huff as I push myself out of my seat, it’s the only way I’ll feel better. I have to see her.As I put my hand on the door knob Cora says, “Make sure you guys are home by dinner. I’m pretty sure your parents will be here tonight and we don’t need anyone getting suspicious.”I nod my head and walk out with Charlie right behind me. It makes me tense to see my parents, I don’t like deceiving them and I know they wo
VioletThe door to my room creaks open and I yawn as I stretch and look over as Magnolia slips into my room. She puts a sundress on my bed and asks, “Do you mind if I get ready with you?”My eyebrows furrow but I nod as I say, “Yeah, that’s fine.”I can feel the nervous energy rolling off of her in large waves. I try not to let it affect me. While she’s planning to wear a baby pink sundress, I find a pastel yellow one to wear that has little bumble bees sewn onto it. I set my dress beside hers and sit beside her in front of the mirror as I start to put on some make up.Magnolia is quiet as she moves along, doing each step perfectly and looking utterly flawless, as always. I quietly ask her as I brush through my hair, “Are you okay, Mags?”She huffs, but nods her head as she admits, “I’m fine, I’m just… I’m nervous to see my parents.”That’s… odd. Magnolia’s always been close with her parents. She has the relationship I used to have with mine, she has the relationship that honestly, I’
VioletUncle Maven and Aunt Amelia did not stay the night. Honestly, I’m grateful for that. The longer we’re around them, the more nervous I am that somehow they’ll figure out what’s going on. I know that the Renegade Pack is a decent size pack and would be good to have on our side. But… my mom is Amelia’s sister. I get the feeling they wouldn’t let me join in this mission and would force me to sit on the sidelines and I can’t risk that. When they leave, we all disperse to bed, knowing that we need the rest. Because come tomorrow night we’ll be traveling with Phoenix Black and headed to take the Black Night Pack down. All of us sleep in, allowing ourselves these comforts while we can because we don’t know how long this will take and we know for awhile we’ll just be sleeping on the ground under the night sky.We decide to head to Phoenix after dinner. During the day while we rested, Cora worked her butt off getting things ready for us. There are so many elixirs and potions that she has
