CHAPTER 6

ZENITH'S POV

“So that's your plan?” Alder asked with obvious disgust. “You find out your mate is alive after seven years and the stupid thing you could think of is getting your balls empty?”

I didn't dignify his outburst with a response and just kept my attention on the apartment building Sabrina had disappeared into with her son. She had asked for ten minutes, and judging from my wristwatch, seven had already passed.

Alder on the other hand planned on making my life hell, as he woul

CHAPTER 10SABRINA'S POVWe stopped at the closest human city to the Pack and the rest of the journey was by road. Eli fell asleep somewhere between the diner and the second stretch of road, the stuffed wolf still in his fist. I kept my arm around him and stared out of the window, watching the city thin out into fields, then trees.Every mile brought us closer to a place I swore I'd never see again."You're quiet," Zenith said, not turning around."I'm tired.""That's not the same thing."I didn't answer.Cross glanced at me through the mirror. "Want the heater lower? He's sweating a bit.""He's fine. Leave it.""Alright."I checked Eli's forehead anyway. Cool. Normal. I let out a breath I didn't know I'd been holding.Zenith kept glancing at Eli through the mirror. He thought I hadn't noticed."He's asleep, Zenith. You can stop checking on him every two minutes.""I'm not checking on him.""Then what are you doing?""Making sure he's alright.""That's the same thing."He didn't ans

CHAPTER 9ZENITH'S POVNeither of us spoke. The silence stretched long enough that I could hear the hum of the machine beside Eli's bed, the faint drip from somewhere down the hallway, the sound of my own breathing. Sabrina's words still hung in the room like something neither of us wanted to touch. Then Eli mumbled some words to himself.Sabrina moved before I even registered what had happened, her hand brushing his hair back from his forehead. "Eli? Baby, can you hear me?"His eyes fluttered open, unfocused at first, then slowly finding her face. "Mommy?""I'm here.""I don't like hospitals," he mumbled, his voice thick with sleep.A weak laugh escaped her. "I know, sweetheart.""Are we still going on vacation?"Sabrina's smile faltered for half a second before she forced it back into place. "Of course we are.""Promise?""I promise."I stayed where I was, watching them without a word. There was something about the way she spoke to him, patient even though exhaustion had carved itse

CHAPTER 8ZENITH'S POV"So why does he sound like an Alpha?"The question hung between us, swallowed by the roar of the engine and the fast beating of my own heart.Sabrina didn't answer. She stared at Eli as though she hadn't heard me, her trembling fingers brushing damp strands of hair away from his forehead while the little boy whimpered softly in his sleep."Mommy...""I'm here, sweetheart." Her voice shook despite her efforts to steady it. "Everything's going to be okay."I watched her closely, waiting for her to look at me, to deny what I had just witnessed or invent another lie, but she never did. Her entire world seemed to have narrowed to the child lying between us.Cross glanced at me through the rear-view mirror before quietly asking, "Alpha... should I drive faster?""Yes."The car surged forward. No one spoke after that.Eli's breathing gradually became steadier, though the heat radiating from his body hadn't lessened. I could feel it through the thin fabric of his shirt,

CHAPTER 7SABRINA'S POV"Whatever happens, Zenith, don't ever take it off him," I warned, tightening my hold around his wrist until his attention finally moved away from the necklace and settled on me.Zenith stared at my hand before slowly lifting his eyes to my face, and I released him immediately. I knew how my reaction looked, and judging by the suspicion already settling into his expression, I had probably made things worse, but I couldn't bring myself to care. He could ask a thousand questions. As long as the necklace stayed where it was, I'd deal with the rest later."What exactly is so special about the necklace?" Zenith asked, glancing at the thin chain again, and I immediately pulled Eli closer to my chest."It's a necklace, Zenith. My son is unconscious, and this is seriously what you want to talk about right now?""I touched it and it burned me. Normal necklaces don't do that.""Then don't touch it again," I snapped. "Now give me my son."For a moment, I thought he was goi

She had asked for ten minutes, and judging from my wristwatch, seven had already passed. Alder on the other hand planned on making my life hell, as he wouldn't stop yapping in Sabrina's defence. One minute he seems to understand the weight of what she did, and the very next he's like a love sick puppy.jeeez!“Lie to yourself all you want,” Alder said quietly. “You still love mate.”“I don't love Sabrina,” I answered, only realizing I had spoken aloud when Cross glanced at me. He quickly averted his gaze, pretending he hadn't heard anything, and I decided to save myself the embarrassment of explaining why I was suddenly announcing my feelings to an

Chapter 5Zenith’s POV“Mommy, is this the old friend from your dreams?” Sabrina’s son asked, and we instinctively glanced at each other briefly.“Mommy, would explain later baby,” Sabrina said, pulling Eli down. “You need to sit down, it's not safe to stand in a moving car.”Sabrina fished out a tab, and a headset, and handed it over to Eli to keep him busy, but the unanswered question still hung in the air, alongside a fact–there’s a man Sabrina always dreams about, so much that she even told her kid about it.I'd bet all the money I'm the world it's the bastard she cheated on me with–its been years and thoughts of him still invades her thoughts, so much that she even dreams about him.Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. My gaze drifted to Sabrina once again through the rearview mirror, but she was intentionally avoiding gaze. I can't believe this was the same woman I fell in love with back in high school.Has she always been like this, or was I so blinded by my love for her that I didn'
