“Alpha!” Debra screamed, opening her eyes. Her eyes instantly locked on the Alpha King's dilated white eyes. His eyes shifted back to normal, the dark veins that crept around his arm vanished in a daze.

His face tugged with curiosity, staring intently at Debra. “Who are you?” the Alpha King asked, slowly loosening his grip from her throat, turning away from her to grab his shirt.

Abruptly, his eyes rolled back, dilating to white, with fury, he narrowed his eyes back at Debra. This time he gripped her shoulder tightly.

“Ahhhhh,” Debra winced in pain, her back pressed against the wall, pain rushing through her body.

“Alpha!!” She screamed, staring intently into his completely white eyes, fear shivered through her bloodstream. His eyes swiftly rolled back to normal, and his black pupils appeared.

‘Did she just make me regain myself?’ He thought to himself, loosening his grip on her shoulder but not letting go as he locked his eyes with hers.

‘Is she the one I was told about?’ He thought to himself, sniffing her, “I can't sense any spirit wolf essence on her. Is she wolfless or what?” He muttered to himself.

“Alpha King!” Beta Brandon yelled, abruptly pulling the door open and running in, his breathing heavy. Debra tried to shift away from the king. The king pulled her by the shoulder, embracing her in a warm hug.

His eyes filled with fear of becoming the monster he was some minutes ago if he let her go.

“The Veiled Moon is out,” Brandon spouted, using his Soul Aura power, eyes scanning Debra's heart to see if she was a threat to the king.

Brandon possessed a rare Soul Aura ability. With it, he could read the aura surrounding a person's soul and sense whether they carried malicious intentions toward the king.

But all Brandon could see in Debra was a white silver fog covering her heart, like it was almost hiding something beneath it.

Brandon narrowed his eyes at her. ‘What are you?’ he pounded in his thoughts.

“I almost killed her, I don't know how it stopped,” The Alpha King explained to his beta, his voice tinged with vulnerability, hugging Debra tightly.

Brandon hurried towards the window, the cold night Air brushed against his face, making the leaves rustle. He looked at the night sky, the dark clouds that had covered the moon earlier had disappeared.

“It's gone now, my king,” Brandon said, snapping in a deep breath.

Alpha King Steven quickly released Debra from his embrace, grabbing his shirt and draping it over his shoulder, his fingers reaching for the buttons as he turned toward her.

“Who are you? And what were you doing here?” Alpha King Steven asked, walking towards his seat.

“I only came to inform you that dinner is ready. Please spare my life! I won't say a word to anyone about what I saw!” Debra pleaded, tears streaming down her cheeks.

“Spare your life?” The king muttered, gulping down a glass of wine he had poured earlier, now pouring another for himself.

‘There is something special about her,’ Beta Brandon whispered into the king's ears, his eyes slowly meeting Debra's eyes already welling with tears.

Ever since Alpha Steven ascended as the Alpha King of Havenways, on every VEILED MOON, he loses his sanity and sight, having the instincts to kill and destroy anything close to him.

A hundred years ago, the Veiled Moon was known to carry strong curses and could be used with the help of forbidden spells to hunt their enemies during wars and crises. In Silvermoon Pack, forbidden spells have been banned forever by Alpha Steven.

Tormented night after night by the curse on every Veiled Moon, Alpha King Steven sought the help of Sorceress Evie.

“Your curse was done out of hate and strong jealousy and can only be cured by the love of the one who is born with the blood of the Alphas and the purity of the moon goddess,” Sorceress Evie said to the king, as she danced with one leg in the middle of blue burning candles.

“You can't help me,” The king asked, his brow heaved in disappointment, his face marred with disarray.

“If I could, I would have,” Sorceress Evie replied calmly.

“How do I find this one with the blood of …. What again?”

“Whatever! I need to know how to find her?” Alpha King demanded.

“When you see her, you will know.”

“How?” The king asked.

“She will be a temporary remedy to your sanity,” Sorceress Evie said to him, vanishing into gigantic blue flames that erupted from the candles.

“I will spare your life if you swear that words of what you saw today will never be heard outside this room. If upon heard, I shall have your head separated from your body,” The king uttered, his expression hardening, as he crouched down, reached towards Debra's chin, raising her face to stare at him

A smirk briefly flashed across his face as he saw the tremulous fear etched in Debra's eyes.

“You can't do it?” he asked, with a condescending arched brow, as Brandon stood by the side, watching his King with a flush of amusement.

“No, no, no, my alpha King…” Debra shrugged curtly.

“ I, Debra Elsher, swear with my life that if word of what happened today gets outside the walls of this room, you can have my head,” Debra declared, her voice trembling and shaky, her heart pounding hard.

“From today you are the king's shadow!” Alpha King Steven declared. Debra's eyes widened in shock. “You will stay by my side always and never leave my sight when I need you,” The king affirmed, his voice firm and final.

“The ki… ki…. King what?”

“Shadow?” Debra's eyes widened, stammering in utter shock.

“Get her some new clothes!” Alpha King Steven ordered, “I will have my dinner with her.” He walked away to his dressing closet.

“This way, Miss…,”

“Debra,” Debra replied, her eyes stealing a glance at the retreating Alpha King's figure, then back to the ground, walking towards the door as Beta Brandon followed suit.

Debra had known better not to question the king's order once declared. For a few minutes, she was just a maid, now the King's Shadow who almost died at the mercy of his hands.

The thought continued to weave through her mind, her cutlery striking lightly against her plate.

“Why is she eating with Alpha King?” One of the maids, who was standing right two meters behind her, asked the other close to her.
