Chapter 13

"I hate you. You and your mother have always been a pain in the neck and I'm grateful to the moon goddess for punishing you like this." My palms curled and my teeth gritted as those words echoed in my head. It burned like hell and more than ever, I hated myself saying those words. I stared outside through the window of my office but all I could see was the pain that reflected in my son's eyes. I betrayed him, I humiliated him, I hurt him, there was no way he was going to forgive me. I heaved a deep sigh, if only there was another way, I would have treated him and his mother better. But sadly, this was my fate, my burden, my secret to bear; that I didn't hate Iris and Aaron but I loved them greatly.

The door to my office creaked open and Mariah trudged inside. I turned away from the window only to be welcomed by her smile. I feigned a smile too while I returned to my swivel chair before the desk.
