Jacob POV

The two of them kept talking with Ben and Zane when he joined us, but I didn’t really pay much attention to what was being said. I vaguely heard them talking about what Kevin had done to Sara. I wasn’t sure yet what my opinion of what he had done was, but I will admit I hadn't really been paying attention to what Trish and Duke had said either. My focus was on Raven.

I don’t know if she was given the name because of her hair, but it suited her. My raven-haired, curvy beauty. She didn’t move too far from her friend’s side. She joined in on conversations when guys came over, but she didn’t seem to be fully invested. It was just as I thought. Most of the guys that approached weren’t there for her. They were trying to get Sara’s attention, and the ones talking to Raven were just doing it as a distraction for their buddies. Not that Raven even tried to stop them. She most likely knows that Sara can take care of herself. You could tell by the body language that these guys were not there for Raven. There was no attraction. Yeah, a few times I did notice that they would take a quick scan to see if they missed something from afar, but other than a few looks of appreciation when they glanced at her cleavage, there was nothing more.

I also noticed that Raven didn’t really react to them either. She didn’t look hurt by their lack of desire for her. I wondered if this was because she didn’t care or if it was that she didn’t think she deserved their attention. Which I hope is not the case, because if it is, I don’t know how she could think that way. I did take note that all the guys and their buddies who approached Sara and Raven were human. Which would make sense because I am pretty sure that the unmated members of the Bos pack would know to keep their distance from Sara, out of fear of Kevin’s reaction, even if he didn’t know what he was doing.

It was when the sixth guy approached Sara that we all suddenly heard a very loud, menacing growl. It was followed by what we wolves recognized as a possessive howl that came from the trees. You can tell that most of the humans from around here are used to wolves being in the area because no one seemed to panic. Some turned and looked in the direction it came from, but that was about all. They all reacted more to the sight of Kevin, still in human form but not by much, bursting out of the tree line and heading straight for Sara.

“Oh, Shit! Duke, we have to get him under control. In this state, he might do something that he can’t take back, and I don’t mean telling her what he is. Although she will likely know by the time he’s done.” Trish said as she ran towards Sara and Raven with Duke and the rest of us right on her heels.

Just as we reached them, Kevin grabbed Sara, threw her over his shoulder and headed back into the woods. “Put me down, you jackass. You have no say in who I talk to. You gave up that right when you cheated on me.” We heard Sara yell as Kevin disappeared into the woods, her voice fading out, but she was still yelling.

Duke didn’t hesitate to follow. Trish turned towards Raven, who stood there, shocked, with a look of confusion on her face.

"Don’t worry, Raven, the last thing that Kevin would do is anything that would hurt Sara. He is just having a hard time expressing himself the right way at the moment. I don’t know if Sara told you or not, but I had a long talk with her a few weeks ago about why he did what he did. It still doesn’t mean what he did was right, but he won’t physically hurt her, that I can guarantee.” Trish took a quick look over as Duke followed the other two into the woods. “Now I know you don’t know these guys, but they are going to keep you company while Duke and I make sure that Kevin doesn’t get his ass kicked. Yes, he would stand there and let Sara do it.”

The group of us standing here knew exactly what she meant. If there was a slight possibility that Sara was Kevin’s mate, he would stand there and take everything she wanted to give to him as long as she didn’t hurt herself. It is just how we are wired. So I can just imagine how hard it must have been for him to hurt Sara by making her think he had cheated on her. We had been given a basic rundown of what Kevin had thought was the right thing to do because he wasn’t sure if she could accept him. Personally, I think it sounded more like he was being a coward, but then again, I’ve never been in his place where the girl who got your attention didn’t even know that werewolves exist.

“This is Zane, Ben and…” Trish hesitated before saying my name, watching Raven’s reaction to me. “…Jacob. They will keep you company while Duke and I go save Kevin from himself. You’re in good hands with them. Right, guys.” I heard the guys answer Trish, but I wasn’t sure what they had said. I was too busy being creepy and staring at Raven.

Zane punched me in the shoulder to jar some sense into me and out of the fantasies that had started to form in my mind. Raven still had that shocked look on her face.

“How about we find a place to sit while we wait for them?” I said as I reached for her hand. The second that we touched, I felt small tingles start to spread up my arm. Nothing like what I have been told the mate bond feels like, but different than when I have touched any other woman. She must have felt it too because she quickly turned her gaze to mine, and I watched as her pupils widened in surprise. I smiled at her, and not just because of the feeling or that I was trying to make her feel safe.

I smiled because she didn’t try to pull her hand away from mine as I led her towards a picnic table near the fire. I held her hand as she took a seat. I sat down beside her, giving in to the urging from my wolf to stay close to her. I know that I might be coming off as one of those creeps that I had been watching earlier with the way I’m staring, but at least I’m only two years older than her.

  • The Alpha's Disappearing Mate   Chapter 76

Raven POVIt has been three days since I blacked out at the cabin, and I have learned a lot in those three days. When I first woke up in the clinic, I talked with the doctor. He thinks I had a panic attack and passed out when I heard the sounds of bones cracking. He thinks that because I hadn't seen the shift, the sounds triggered flashbacks to when that man shifted and attacked me in the woods. It caused my brain to shut down instead of dealing with it.The day after I left the clinic, Jacob took Emma and me back to the cabin, where he explained more about being a werewolf. He explained that there is a high chance that Emma will grow to have a wolf too. I have never seen her so happy. She fired off question after question that Jacob patiently answered.Watching him with her made all the things that I have been through worth it. Listening to their conversation is when I found out that Emma had always known that there was something different about the man that had us. She explained tha

Jacob POVI shifted back, slipped into my jeans and was pulling my shirt over my head when I heard it. A thump, as if something had hit the front porch. I didn’t even stop to try and figure out what it was because all that mattered was that Raven was there.Reaching the corner of the cabin, I saw Raven lying on the wood of the porch beside the chair she had been sitting in. I climbed back over the railing that Coal had leapt over when he had left. I scooped Raven into my arms and took her inside. Lying her on the couch, I checked her head for any cuts or bumps but found none. My brain frantically tried to figure out what had happened. Was this being caused by something that had happened in the woods? Had there been something wrong with the food that I left her? “Raven, Princess, wake up,” I said, trying to keep my voice calm and failing. When Raven didn’t respond, I grabbed my phone and called Sara, hoping she might have an idea.“Hey, girl, just go talk to…”“Raven collapsed. Meet us

Raven POVWhen Jacob walked out the door, I fought to hold back the tears from coming again. I hadn’t been able to stop them when he had gone into the bathroom. I couldn’t figure out what I had done wrong. I went from scared to angry that he wouldn’t talk to me. I had grabbed the nearest article of clothing, which happened to be Jacob’s T-shirt. His scent was all over it, and for some reason it calmed some of my anger but not all of it.I didn’t know what to expect when Jacob moved the curtain and looked out of the shower at me, but the burning desire that appeared in his eyes was not it. Then his expression changed, and the next thing I knew I was wrapped in his arms, pressed against his chest. He was saying something that I wasn’t quite paying attention to because I was marvelling at the feel of Jacob’s muscular chest pressed to my cheek. How did he expect me to listen to what he was saying when he was holding me like this? But the sound of my stomach growling broke the spell.I fou

Jacob POVI wiped my chin and made my way onto the bed with Raven, making sure to kiss as much of her beautiful body as I could along the way. With each kiss, the need to mark and claim her permanently grew. I could feel my fangs drop as I reached that sweet spot on her shoulder. That spot that called to my animal side. It took every ounce of willpower that I had to hold back. But I knew that I couldn’t mark her, not yet anyway.Even when she let out that soft, sexy moan, I don’t think she even realized that she did. That moan called to me. I could almost hear her begging for me to mark her, but it had to be instinct. But no matter how much I wanted to, and her body seemed to want it, I would not do that until I had had a chance to explain what it all means to my kind.I sat up and turned my head away so she couldn’t see my fangs. I didn’t want to scare her. Even though she seems to have accepted what I am, she still has seen the full package. I was taking deep breaths, trying to get

  • The Alpha's Disappearing Mate   Chapter 72

Raven POVThis man loved me. Even with everything that I had gone through, he still loved me. He still wanted me. He wasn’t disgusted by me. And if he could accept me as I was, why would he think that I would want him the way he was? So what if he is a supernatural creature? He has shown me more love and caring than most humans that I have dealt with ever have. Besides, it just makes him even sexier.Jacob let out one of those little growls that I mentioned and deepened the kiss when a rub his hardened length through the fabric of his boxers. For a moment I get a flash of that bastard forcing me to unbuckle his belt and drop to my knees. Jacob must have sensed my hesitation because he quickly pulled away and looked at me with concern.“We don’t have to do anything. I don’t want you to feel as if this is the only reason that I said what I said. I love you, Raven, no matter what.” He pulled me tight against his chest. “The only thing I ask of you is for you to let me hold you. Anything

Jacob POVRelief washed through me as Raven began to kiss me back. I was just hoping that her reaction meant that she understood how much she means to me. That everything that I told her was true. I pulled out of the kiss and placed my forehead on hers.“Princess, we need to slow down before I can’t stop myself. You’re still healing, and the last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it is getting harder and harder to not take you right now. I don’t think you fully understand what being near you does to me.” I said, lifting my head to look into her eyes.Raven slid her hand up over my shoulder to the back of my neck and started playing with my hair. Raven started to pull my lips towards her, but I stopped her. Even though I think that I have convinced Raven that I want her in my life, I can’t let her agree to being with me until I have explained to her what I am. I closed my eyes, slid off the bed and started pacing. Raven moved to sit on the edge of the bed.“Jacob, what’s wrong? What
