Raven POV

Ever since we got here, I have had this feeling that someone is watching me. I don’t know who. I have tried to figure it out, but I haven’t been able to catch anyone staring. I have, though, spent most of the night watching guy after guy hit on Sara, but I’m used to it. That is how it has always been in our friendship. She was the girl that all the guys wanted, and I was the one that their friends would talk to while they waited. The guy who is talking to Sara now is giving me the creeps, and his friend, who was talking to me, not that I have been paying attention, isn’t any better. Suddenly, a loud growl followed by an angry-sounding howl ripped through the air, but what surprised me the most was Kevin running out of the woods looking like what I would call almost feral. He stopped in front of us, pushed the guys that was talking to Sara to the side and stepped right in close to Sara. They were so close I don’t think a breeze could have passed between them. Kevin didn’t say anything. He just stood there breathing hard. It was like he was trying to get himself to calm down. “Hey, man, I was talking to her. Wait your turn.” Said the guy who had been pushed to the side, trying to assert his dominance

“No, talk. Mine.” Kevin said, though it sounded more animalistic than human. I had never heard anything like it.

Kevin then threw Sara over his shoulder and ran off with her. It all happened so fast that I barely had time to realize she was gone and Trish was talking to me. The next thing I know, I could hear Sara yelling at Kevon, and Trish was introducing me to three strange guys before running off following Duke, who had run after Kevin. One of the guys just stood there for a few minutes staring at me. He was over six feet tall with broad shoulders that filled out the t-shirt he was wearing. He filled it out everywhere else as well, from the well-toned muscles of his biceps and chest to his abs that I had the sudden urge to run my hands over.

Shaking my head, I tried to get my thoughts back on track as to what was happening with my best friend. I knew I should be going after her, but I also had the feeling that I might be more in the way than help. I was brought back from my thoughts to the situation I was in, being left with a group of strange guys, by the feel of a tingling sensation in my hand that was slowly moving up my arm. That is when I realized that the magnificent male specimen that I had just been ogling was touching me. He was talking to me, and not because one of his friends wanted to talk to Sara.

I looked up, meeting his gaze and found myself staring into the most beautiful set of hazel eyes I have ever seen. He said something that I didn’t register at first. Then I pieced it together when he held my hand as he led me over to one of the picnic tables by the fire and helped me sit down. He sat beside me but didn’t say anything. He just stared.

Normally, I would have found it creepy and would have wanted to run, but instead, for some unknown reason, I felt safe. I can’t explain it. I have never felt like this before. I don’t know how to process it, but I think for the time being I will stay where I am. There are enough people around us that he shouldn’t be able to do anything, plus I trusted Trish when she said that I was safe with them. I also believed her when she said that Kevin would not hurt Sara, at least not physically, emotionally, I’m not too sure. “So do you think he will be able to get her to take him back?”  One of the guys across from me asks.

I looked back towards the trees. “I don’t know, he hurt her a lot,” I answered, turning back to study the guys who were sitting with me.

All three of these guys are big and well-toned. I haven’t been surrounded by this much muscle since Sara was dating Kevin, and we were hanging around with some of his buddies from school. The guy who asked about Sara and Kevin has light brown hair and blue eyes, Ben, I think his name is. The other one, I think, is Zane, he has blond hair and caramel coloured eyes. They are both really good-looking, but I don’t feel drawn to them the same way I am to the guy next to me, Jacob. I have never been this distracted by a guy in my life. As I said, we hung out with some very attractive guys when Sara was with Kevin, but I didn’t react to any of them like this. It makes it very hard to focus.

I go on to tell them a basic rundown of what happened between Kevin and Sara. By their reaction, I think they have heard part of the story already, but I continue so that I have something else to focus on other than the body that is beside me. I explain how she caught him with his ex-girlfriend and his lame excuse that Sara couldn’t expect him to wait until she was eighteen, whatever that was supposed to mean. When I said that these three almost looked like they understood what Kevin had meant by it, it must be a guy thing.

The whole time I talked, the other two asked questions, but Jacob never said a word. I could feel the heat coming off his body. That heat was keeping me warmer than the nearby fire was. But that could be because his nearness was causing other parts, parts that had never reacted to a guy like this before, to also become quite warm. I was struggling to resist the urge to fan my face when the richest, smoothest baritone voice that I had ever heard drifted over from beside me.

“So, Trish was telling us that you graduated earlier and are starting college on a full scholarship.”

  • The Alpha's Disappearing Mate   Chapter 76

Raven POVIt has been three days since I blacked out at the cabin, and I have learned a lot in those three days. When I first woke up in the clinic, I talked with the doctor. He thinks I had a panic attack and passed out when I heard the sounds of bones cracking. He thinks that because I hadn't seen the shift, the sounds triggered flashbacks to when that man shifted and attacked me in the woods. It caused my brain to shut down instead of dealing with it.The day after I left the clinic, Jacob took Emma and me back to the cabin, where he explained more about being a werewolf. He explained that there is a high chance that Emma will grow to have a wolf too. I have never seen her so happy. She fired off question after question that Jacob patiently answered.Watching him with her made all the things that I have been through worth it. Listening to their conversation is when I found out that Emma had always known that there was something different about the man that had us. She explained tha

Jacob POVI shifted back, slipped into my jeans and was pulling my shirt over my head when I heard it. A thump, as if something had hit the front porch. I didn’t even stop to try and figure out what it was because all that mattered was that Raven was there.Reaching the corner of the cabin, I saw Raven lying on the wood of the porch beside the chair she had been sitting in. I climbed back over the railing that Coal had leapt over when he had left. I scooped Raven into my arms and took her inside. Lying her on the couch, I checked her head for any cuts or bumps but found none. My brain frantically tried to figure out what had happened. Was this being caused by something that had happened in the woods? Had there been something wrong with the food that I left her? “Raven, Princess, wake up,” I said, trying to keep my voice calm and failing. When Raven didn’t respond, I grabbed my phone and called Sara, hoping she might have an idea.“Hey, girl, just go talk to…”“Raven collapsed. Meet us

Raven POVWhen Jacob walked out the door, I fought to hold back the tears from coming again. I hadn’t been able to stop them when he had gone into the bathroom. I couldn’t figure out what I had done wrong. I went from scared to angry that he wouldn’t talk to me. I had grabbed the nearest article of clothing, which happened to be Jacob’s T-shirt. His scent was all over it, and for some reason it calmed some of my anger but not all of it.I didn’t know what to expect when Jacob moved the curtain and looked out of the shower at me, but the burning desire that appeared in his eyes was not it. Then his expression changed, and the next thing I knew I was wrapped in his arms, pressed against his chest. He was saying something that I wasn’t quite paying attention to because I was marvelling at the feel of Jacob’s muscular chest pressed to my cheek. How did he expect me to listen to what he was saying when he was holding me like this? But the sound of my stomach growling broke the spell.I fou

  • The Alpha's Disappearing Mate   Chapter 73

Jacob POVI wiped my chin and made my way onto the bed with Raven, making sure to kiss as much of her beautiful body as I could along the way. With each kiss, the need to mark and claim her permanently grew. I could feel my fangs drop as I reached that sweet spot on her shoulder. That spot that called to my animal side. It took every ounce of willpower that I had to hold back. But I knew that I couldn’t mark her, not yet anyway.Even when she let out that soft, sexy moan, I don’t think she even realized that she did. That moan called to me. I could almost hear her begging for me to mark her, but it had to be instinct. But no matter how much I wanted to, and her body seemed to want it, I would not do that until I had had a chance to explain what it all means to my kind.I sat up and turned my head away so she couldn’t see my fangs. I didn’t want to scare her. Even though she seems to have accepted what I am, she still has seen the full package. I was taking deep breaths, trying to get

  • The Alpha's Disappearing Mate   Chapter 72

Raven POVThis man loved me. Even with everything that I had gone through, he still loved me. He still wanted me. He wasn’t disgusted by me. And if he could accept me as I was, why would he think that I would want him the way he was? So what if he is a supernatural creature? He has shown me more love and caring than most humans that I have dealt with ever have. Besides, it just makes him even sexier.Jacob let out one of those little growls that I mentioned and deepened the kiss when a rub his hardened length through the fabric of his boxers. For a moment I get a flash of that bastard forcing me to unbuckle his belt and drop to my knees. Jacob must have sensed my hesitation because he quickly pulled away and looked at me with concern.“We don’t have to do anything. I don’t want you to feel as if this is the only reason that I said what I said. I love you, Raven, no matter what.” He pulled me tight against his chest. “The only thing I ask of you is for you to let me hold you. Anything

Jacob POVRelief washed through me as Raven began to kiss me back. I was just hoping that her reaction meant that she understood how much she means to me. That everything that I told her was true. I pulled out of the kiss and placed my forehead on hers.“Princess, we need to slow down before I can’t stop myself. You’re still healing, and the last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it is getting harder and harder to not take you right now. I don’t think you fully understand what being near you does to me.” I said, lifting my head to look into her eyes.Raven slid her hand up over my shoulder to the back of my neck and started playing with my hair. Raven started to pull my lips towards her, but I stopped her. Even though I think that I have convinced Raven that I want her in my life, I can’t let her agree to being with me until I have explained to her what I am. I closed my eyes, slid off the bed and started pacing. Raven moved to sit on the edge of the bed.“Jacob, what’s wrong? What
