Aidora's POV

“For how long are you going to lay there?” The question was accompanied by a sick kick to the stomach and I hunched over as the pain spread through my stomach.

I didn't get a chance to get accustomed to the roaring pain before my hair was grabbed and I was dragged across the floor. My eyes fluttered close and I braced myself for the pain that was burning through my skin.

I couldn't heal fast and I couldn't endure pain like the others. My wolf was weak, way too weak, and everyone took advantage of it. It seemed like a curse from the Moon Goddess, like she too was punishing me for the crimes levied against my parents.

As they dragged me across the floor mercilessly, my wolf shrunk even further into my mind.

To them, they were doing the pack a favour by ensuring the daughter of traitors endured pain every waking moment.

A rancid smell hit my nose, and my eyes instantly snapped open. It took a minute for me to register the scene before me, but the second it did, my eyes widened and I began thrashing around.

“No! Please! Stop!” I cried with my broken voice, trying to break free from their grasps. I could endure anything but that.

They laughed at my struggles. Suddenly, they stopped and released me.

“You have five seconds to make it out of here.”

I knew they were only teasing me, I couldn't make it out in five seconds, but still, I tried. My legs were far too weak to carry me out, so I crawled.

The silence behind me was deafening, but I didn't stop even for a moment. Even when I left traces of blood as I crawled, and it got harder to breathe, I still continued.

Just when I neared the edge of my freedom, someone kicked me hard, and I dropped on the floor, hitting my head hard, then I heard them burst into laughter.

Black dots clouded my vision, and tears pooled in my eyes.

I was exhausted.

With no time to pull myself together, they dragged me from the floor and headed back to that rancid toilet that had been unwashed in what felt like forever.

This time around, even with the stench stinging my eyes and nose, I did not attempt to fight back. I let them drag me along.

One of them grabbed me by the neck and began pushing my head slowly towards the toilet, like every second she spent slowly torturing me, added more time to her life.

“Making you feast on feces is still nothing compared to what your parents did to this pack! Children died because of them!”

Her hold on me tightened, but before she could plant my face into that pile of dung, someone walked in.

“What is going on here?!” The voice bounced off the wall, a clear indicator he wasn't a prisoner, and my torturer immediately let go of me.

I would have still ended up face deep into the dung if I didn't pull myself back.

“Just teaching Sinclair a lesson.”

There was a note of pride in her voice, and of course, the guard simply nodded at her words.

“Enough of that! All of you should return to your bunks.”

They all filed out, leaving just I and the guard. “I should have come in a second later,” he said loud enough for me to hear, and the tear I'd been holding back escaped and slid down my cheek.

“But that's fine. Get yourself cleaned up,” he tossed a piece of cloth at me, “the council has summoned you.”

“What?”

My stomach clenched so tight it felt like my organs were being squeezed. “What did you just…”

A hard smack against the cheek cut me off.

“Get yourself cleaned up, I'll be back in a minute to take you. You have been summoned.”

Summoned? After 14 years?

The scream that filled the air as they dragged me away that cold night, my pleas, flashed through my mind.

I grazed my bottom lip hard.

I was just a child then, yet they didn't hear me out. They didn't pity me. They dumped me in a prison with adults who wanted nothing but to tear me apart.

Now, they want to summon me?

“Take me like this.” I said before the guard could walk away

“What?”

“Take me like this. There is no need to clean up.”

If I was being summoned, what was the point of cleaning up just to get soiled again? I would go like this, then maybe, they'll see that I have suffered enough.

I could plead my case.

“You want to go before the Council, the alpha! Like that?!”

I flinched when he said Alpha, and I almost changed my mind. Appearing filthy before him, before Hadrian, seemed excessive. A part of me wanted to appear better, but no amount of cleaning would make him see me any less of a traitor.

He had been there that night, and he hadn't flinched as he watched them drag me away.

Swallowing, I nodded shakily, and a sinister smile appeared on the guards face

“Very well then. It might hasten your sentence.” He placed cuffs on my hand and forced me to my feet. “Keep up.”

He marched forward with zero consideration for my broken body. To keep up, I had to jog, and every step I took had me close to tumbling to the floor.

As we walked past the others, they hurled insults, spit and anything they could find at me. I kept my head low and took it all. Whatever my sentence was I was confident it wouldn't result in me coming back to this prison. I won't let it happen, even at the cost of my life

HadrianOnce I confirmed she was awake now, I walked out of the door. Even though I had the wall up, her emotions powered through them.I'd been trying unsuccessfully to fall asleep when her emotions hit me square in the chest. Every control I had on my wolf disappeared in that moment, and when I heard her whimpering from the door, I almost tore it down. Afraid of scaring her, I had to get the maidI stood out of the door, waiting and making sure she was okay. Once the whimpering came down, I forced myself to walk away. What could she have possibly dreamt of to be hit with so much pain? Was it often?I gritted my teeth and my nails dug into my palm from how hard I was clenching my fists. Why do I care? There were better things to focus my energy on.For the rest of the night, I stayed awake. I forced myself to read through some documents, even when my mind was alert, waiting and watching for anything to happen again.Half of the documents I'd been putting off for a week now, since th

AidoraI still couldn’t stop shaking minutes after he left, and I stared at the necklace as though it would unravel and become something else. My parents are dead, that is the truth. They wouldn’t disappear on me for so long.“This is a lie,” I said as I picked up the necklace, but I couldn't even believe the words that left my lips. Tears blurred my vision as my fingers lightly traced the necklace. It looked and felt too similar to be a copy, but I couldn't pick up a scent from it.Burying my face on the bed, the tears I'd been holding back soaked into the pillow, wetting it. Everything I knew was being tested right now. What do I do if it turns out that my parents were in fact alive? What becomes of me? Of what I have believed my whole life?I curled up on the floor, the pain etched in my bones completely overshadowed by the thoughts roaring in my mind.A soft knock on the door made all my muscles knot as I raised my head. He was back again? So soon? My hands closed around the neckl

Aidora I woke up, clutching my chest. I'd lost my fight with consciousness the second I was put in the recovery room, but a dream about my parents brought me back.My hand was still clutching my chest, like it was going to soften the ache I felt.Still drowning in pain when the door suddenly pulled open and Hadrian walked in. He took up space the second he was in the room. With just both of us in that tiny space, my wolf grew restless, aching to touch him. His hands were balled tightly beside him, an indicator that his wolf was probably restless as well. For minutes, we both said nothing, just staring at each other, then he cleared his throat.“What do you know about an Akatalytos bond?” I swallowed, wetting my dry throat. My father mentioned it in passing, there had been one case of an Akatalytos bond in the pack.“The bond ties two lives together.” I whispered.“Is that all?”“It cannot be broken.”His face darkened. That was clearly not the answer he was expecting, but that was a

HadrianI watched with my hands balled into fists as she was led away, my wolf was quiet and regressed into the back of my mind. It felt like he was calculating, but I knew the truth. He was mourning. The one person who was meant to be our other half, a fulfilling part of us, had turned out to be her. It left a sour taste in my mouth. If this had happened 14 years ago, I would have been over the moon.Cold hands wrapped around my wrist, snapping me out of my thoughts, and I turned to see my sister-in-law, looking up at me with wide eyes.“What was that?” My gaze moved from her to the rest of the council members and they were all on their feet staring at me expectantly, like giving an explanation would alter what they saw happen before them.“Hadrian,” she tugged on my arm, “what was that? You let her go.”She looked hurt, her face twisted in pain. It made me think of her that very day, running out of a burning home cradling my nephew to her chest.I exhaled deeply as the guilt hit me

AidoraMy body trembled as I looked at that scroll. One thousand lives.I couldn't help the tears that escaped as the numbers displayed before my eyes. One thousand. “We didn't do it.” I froze. It sounded so close to my ear, as though the words were being said to me now, but it's been fourteen years. When the chaos was bubbling outside, my parents had run to my room. “We didn't do it, do not let anyone convince you otherwise.” My mother said as she shook me awake. “We tried to save them, we tried to save this, we are going to die trying so please, even if the world doesn't see the truth, promise me, promise me that you always will. It is important that you do.”Everything else that happened was a blur, but that memory, I couldn't erase it.“I am going to ask you again,” Hadrian’s voice sliced through my thoughts, and I looked at him through my teary vision. He dropped the end of the scroll and closed the gap between us.“Do you, Aidora Sinclair, agree that you and your parents are

Aidora's POVAidora's POVThe hall was bigger than I last remembered, but the seats - I counted as my eyes took it in. The seats were now 8 instead of 10.I balled my hands into fists as I took note of that. They deliberately didn't let anyone else take their position. They were eradicating every trace of my parents.I was the only trace left.Slowly, the hall began filling in, and soon enough every seat but one was filled up. I recognized only one person but I dared not meet her eyes, not when she looked like she was barely restraining herself from charging at me.“The alpha would join a little late. He has given his order to start without him.” Beatrice said, her eyes pinned on me and I released a breath of relief“Aidora Sinclair,” my name bounced off the walls and I froze, “you stand here accused of aiding and abetting treason. Your crimes are deserving of the death penalty, do you agree?”The question felt like a jab to my heart. I was only 10 when it happened, I was innocent.I
