LOGINHadrian
Once I confirmed she was awake now, I walked out of the door. Even though I had the wall up, her emotions powered through them.
I'd been trying unsuccessfully to fall asleep when her emotions hit me square in the chest. Every control I had on my wolf disappeared in that moment, and when I heard her whimpering from the door, I almost tore it down.
Afraid of scaring her, I had to get the maid
I stood out of the door, waiting and making sure she was okay. Once the whimpering came down, I forced myself to walk away. What could she have possibly dreamt of to be hit with so much pain? Was it often?
I gritted my teeth and my nails dug into my palm from how hard I was clenching my fists. Why do I care? There were better things to focus my energy on.
For the rest of the night, I stayed awake. I forced myself to read through some documents, even when my mind was alert, waiting and watching for anything to happen again.
Half of the documents I'd been putting off for a week now, since the appearance of those two at the border, I've gone through them in just one night.
Sighing, I finally stood up from my seat, ready to go for the daily training, but then the door was pushed open and Beatrice walked in.
Her eyes widened slightly when she saw me but she immediately schooled her features and smiled at me.
“You are here so early.”
I nodded, pointing to the stack of documents. “I had to go through those. Were you looking for me?”
Her eyes roamed the office, then she nodded. “I searched your room, couldn't find you so I came here.” She took a breath, then gently grabbed my hand in hers. “You have to call a meeting again, Hadrian, this time you have to publicly reject that girl and put an end to all this. Justice has been delayed for far too long.”
“I will, but not today.”
“Then when? You shouldn't make us wait for long, this…”
“Have you ever considered that they might be innocent?”
I regretted that question the second it left my lips. Beatrice released her grip on my hands and stepped back.
“Can you ask that question again?”
“Do not worry about it.” One day of conversation with Aidora and I was suddenly doubting the truth I've lived with for fourteen years? What a joke. “I shouldn't have asked th-”
“You absolutely shouldn't have!” She snapped. “14 years of that scene of them setting the house on fire replaying in my mind, and you stand there to even consider them slightly innocent?”
“Wait-” I pushed myself off the table I leaned on, “-you saw them set the house on fire?”
“I just said that.”
“Seems so, but, I thought you didn't see them till the house was already burning and they were charging into the house with their crew?”
Color vanished from her face immediately and my pulse quickened. “Beatrice?”
She let out a laugh. “You don't know what it is like to watch your family burn right before your eyes. You were spared that horror, I wasn't, so forgive my memory for being bad.”
My stomach tightened at her words. I'd snuck out that night to party with my friends, that was the only reason I was spared from the fire. It makes me sick till this very day.
“I didn't mean it that…”
“It has to be today, Hadrian. You have to set up the meeting and reject her today. The Full moon is less than two weeks, if you let this bond be, you won't be able to resist it when the moon makes her full appearance. Today, Hadrian.”
The door rattled the walls of the house when she slammed it close on her way out.
I sank back into the table, jaw clenched tightly. Two weeks till the full moon, I have to find a way to sever the bond before then. For now… I'd have to find a way to keep Beatrice from insisting on the meeting.
Telling anyone a traitor's life was tied to mine would not happen. Not when trust is a risky move.

AidoraI still couldn’t stop shaking minutes after he left, and I stared at the necklace as though it would unravel and become something else. My parents are dead, that is the truth. They wouldn’t disappear on me for so long.“This is a lie,” I said as I picked up the necklace, but I couldn't even believe the words that left my lips. Tears blurred my vision as my fingers lightly traced the necklace. It looked and felt too similar to be a copy, but I couldn't pick up a scent from it.Burying my face on the bed, the tears I'd been holding back soaked into the pillow, wetting it. Everything I knew was being tested right now. What do I do if it turns out that my parents were in fact alive? What becomes of me? Of what I have believed my whole life?I curled up on the floor, the pain etched in my bones completely overshadowed by the thoughts roaring in my mind.A soft knock on the door made all my muscles knot as I raised my head. He was back again? So soon? My hands closed around the neckl
Aidora I woke up, clutching my chest. I'd lost my fight with consciousness the second I was put in the recovery room, but a dream about my parents brought me back.My hand was still clutching my chest, like it was going to soften the ache I felt.Still drowning in pain when the door suddenly pulled open and Hadrian walked in. He took up space the second he was in the room. With just both of us in that tiny space, my wolf grew restless, aching to touch him. His hands were balled tightly beside him, an indicator that his wolf was probably restless as well. For minutes, we both said nothing, just staring at each other, then he cleared his throat.“What do you know about an Akatalytos bond?” I swallowed, wetting my dry throat. My father mentioned it in passing, there had been one case of an Akatalytos bond in the pack.“The bond ties two lives together.” I whispered.“Is that all?”“It cannot be broken.”His face darkened. That was clearly not the answer he was expecting, but that was a
HadrianI watched with my hands balled into fists as she was led away, my wolf was quiet and regressed into the back of my mind. It felt like he was calculating, but I knew the truth. He was mourning. The one person who was meant to be our other half, a fulfilling part of us, had turned out to be her. It left a sour taste in my mouth. If this had happened 14 years ago, I would have been over the moon.Cold hands wrapped around my wrist, snapping me out of my thoughts, and I turned to see my sister-in-law, looking up at me with wide eyes.“What was that?” My gaze moved from her to the rest of the council members and they were all on their feet staring at me expectantly, like giving an explanation would alter what they saw happen before them.“Hadrian,” she tugged on my arm, “what was that? You let her go.”She looked hurt, her face twisted in pain. It made me think of her that very day, running out of a burning home cradling my nephew to her chest.I exhaled deeply as the guilt hit me
AidoraMy body trembled as I looked at that scroll. One thousand lives.I couldn't help the tears that escaped as the numbers displayed before my eyes. One thousand. “We didn't do it.” I froze. It sounded so close to my ear, as though the words were being said to me now, but it's been fourteen years. When the chaos was bubbling outside, my parents had run to my room. “We didn't do it, do not let anyone convince you otherwise.” My mother said as she shook me awake. “We tried to save them, we tried to save this, we are going to die trying so please, even if the world doesn't see the truth, promise me, promise me that you always will. It is important that you do.”Everything else that happened was a blur, but that memory, I couldn't erase it.“I am going to ask you again,” Hadrian’s voice sliced through my thoughts, and I looked at him through my teary vision. He dropped the end of the scroll and closed the gap between us.“Do you, Aidora Sinclair, agree that you and your parents are
Aidora's POVAidora's POVThe hall was bigger than I last remembered, but the seats - I counted as my eyes took it in. The seats were now 8 instead of 10.I balled my hands into fists as I took note of that. They deliberately didn't let anyone else take their position. They were eradicating every trace of my parents.I was the only trace left.Slowly, the hall began filling in, and soon enough every seat but one was filled up. I recognized only one person but I dared not meet her eyes, not when she looked like she was barely restraining herself from charging at me.“The alpha would join a little late. He has given his order to start without him.” Beatrice said, her eyes pinned on me and I released a breath of relief“Aidora Sinclair,” my name bounced off the walls and I froze, “you stand here accused of aiding and abetting treason. Your crimes are deserving of the death penalty, do you agree?”The question felt like a jab to my heart. I was only 10 when it happened, I was innocent.I
