{Ryker}

The battlefield had become a graveyard of roars and dying things.

Wolves tore through rogue flesh. The Corrupted screamed as they fell. The night trembled with the weight of it all. Every shriek, chant, and death rattles that echoed like thunder.

For every Corrupted or rogue they managed to kill, three took their place.

The numbers were simply too much for Dominic’s wolves.

And through it, I walked untouched.

The beasts, the Corrupted ones, parted for me as the recognized brother of their creator.

The rogues did the same, not because I led them. But because I had once done so, without Dominic realising.

And to my former allies? I was the enemy's brother. That was who I was now.

Someone shouted, “Ryker! There!”

A pair of soldiers broke through the skirmish, snarling. But Allen stopped them with a raised arm. “Leave him. He’s not worth it. We’ve got actual enemies.”

The soldier hesitated, still pissed. “He betrayed the Alpha!”

    {Lyra}For the longest time, he didn’t say a word.But then… Varen’s voice responded from everywhere around us."I do not feel sorry for whatever I've done."His words were flat. Measured. Not the rant of a madman, nor the plea of someone cornered. It was a declaration carved from conviction.Like he was reassuring us of who he was.He continued: "I have always been the one steadily clawing to the top. I reached the very end. I didn’t think I needed anyone... and truly I didn’t. Because now I see it. No matter what, the universe will still try to stop me.”He paused, drawing his words out. “...and I refuse to let it."The wind whispered around us, carrying the weight of his defiance.There was a flicker in his eye.Not desperation.But the dark gleam of resolve.That glint spoke a truth he hadn’t voiced, as if to say: Even if I die, I’ll take one of you with me.Dominic stepped forward. He didn’t snarl. Didn’t growl.He simply said, “You will never succeed. And like all your plots bef

    {Lyra}I landed hard, smoke coiled around my heels as my fire slowed my descent, flames licking the broken earth where my boots finally touched.I rose from my crouch beside Dominic. This was it.No more running. No more speeches.This was where it ended.Varen stood before us, blood-soaked, half-healed, motionless.He wasn’t smiling anymore.He didn’t gloat. He didn’t monologue. He didn’t even blink.And neither did we.“Ready?” I whispered directly into Dominic’s mind, my magic relaying my thoughts to him and vice versa.“With you? Always.”Then we moved.It was fluid. Automatic.I sent a blast of flame toward Varen’s face just as Dominic lunged low, aiming to sweep Varen’s legs out. The bastard raised an arm to block the fire, but he didn’t see Dominic coming until it was too late. He buckled as he hit the ground, and Dominic’s fist sank into his chest, cracking bone.But Varen didn’t scream.He rolled backward, rebounding off a tree and slammed both fists into Dominic’s side.The

    {Ryker}“Reina!” I called out, voice cracking under the pressure.No answer came. Only more chaos.The wolves scattering only made it worse. I sprinted through the battleground… what was left of it at least in the direction of the sound.I didn’t care if any of them would use this moment to attack me.All I could think was that maybe she was in trouble. Maybe she needed me, and maybe — just maybe — this time I wouldn’t fail her. Maybe I’d get to tell her that I was sorry. That I never stopped thinking about her. That I never meant to let things fall apart. That even as a traitor, I still loved her. I did it all… for her.I crashed through a wall of low branches, heart pounding louder as I raced deeper into the woods. Where Varen and Dominic had just passed.I dreaded every second of anticipation. Had she been attacked by a Corrupted beast? Did the warriors miss any?A thousand and one excuses bloomed in my mind as I thought of what I would say. A faint curl played on my lips.‘Maybe s

    {Lyra)The flame spread up his bleeding stomp before dying out.And this time… it stayed that way… for a bit at least.It was healing, but slower. At a snail's pace compared to before.He noticed too.Varen stared at the wound with a snarl contorting his face. His body trembled like he couldn’t understand what had happened."HOW?!" he roared.I grinned, pushing a bloodied strand of hair behind my ear. “I guess you’ll never know.”His face darkened, his golden eyes narrowed into slits. Yet I could feel all the malice in his gaze.Then he lunged.And we met him in kind.Meeting in claws, fists and spells. But there was a difference now. He wasn’t taking the hits like he used to. Gone was the overconfident tanking, the smug walk-through-fire persona.Now he was dodging. Deflecting. Blocking.And it was almost… ironic. Because the moment he began to defend himself like the rest of us, the pressure lifted slightly.He moved differently now. Still fast. Still brutal. But less reckless. And

    {Lyra}Just before the space was destroyed.Before the last of my power was absorbed.Before I opened my eyes and watched Varen stare me down, I had one final conversation with Alissa.Her voice was faint, the sound of it already weakening. Her presence — what remained of her — looked ghostly and see-through.“He’s immortal now,” she said, and there was no softness in it. No comfort. Just a heavy, cruel truth.I paused for a few precious seconds, taking in the information.“I figured,” I answered finally.“There’s nothing that can kill him,” she continued, each word growing fainter.“No blade, no spell. No wolf. He will outlast all of it… and maybe that will kill him first. But Varen isn't that weak-willed.”“Alissa.”She paused.“Stop dancing around it.”And finally, she smirked, or maybe I imagined it.“Almost nothing…”I frowned, tilting my head. I didn’t want to believe that. But I was hopeful.She continued: “...you can kill him like we treat venom.”I blinked. “What?”“You make
