Selene pov

I sat on the edge of the bed, just staring into space.

Some part of me…deep inside, was actually relieved. My sister was alive. She didn’t die that day.

It felt like I dropped a weight I didn’t even know I’d been carrying. And for a second… It felt good.

Although it doesn’t help that she’s still a complete bitch.

And then there’s the other problem…my mate.

The blood bond. The curse. The fact that he doesn’t even want to complete the mating ritual .Even though leaving it undone might drive both of us insane.

And of course, there’s barely anything written about it. Just scattered lines in ancient books.

But… I remembered something.

That day I overheard Kael and Sylvester talking…he said something about Sylvester’s family being well-versed in bonds. Maybe… just maybe, I could ask him if I ever see him again.

I groaned and flopped backward onto the bed, throwing my hand over my face.

Knock knock.

“Come in,” I muttered, not bothering to look up.

The door clicked open.

When I finally opened my eyes, the head maid was inside, quietly wiping the blood off the floor.

“Maria,” I said, my voice low but steady. “I want you to tell me something.”

The head maid paused, looking up from the blood she was wiping. “What is it, Luna?”

I sat up slowly, my fingers tangled in the sheets. “What is my actual duty around here? Apart from going to court with Kael… what do I really do?”

She blinked, surprised by the question.

“What is my real duty as a Luna? To my people?”

Maria sat back on her heels, wiping her hands on her apron before meeting my eyes.

“Well… the last Luna, Luna Veyra, she wasn’t just the Alpha’s arm candy,” she said gently. “She handled disputes between the lower-ranked wolves.

She made sure no one went hungry during winter. She led the healing circles when warriors returned from patrols. She organized the schooling for the young.”

I stared at her, silent.

“She was… visible,” Maria continued carefully. “In the villages. In the kitchens. At the birthing tents. She visited grieving families.

She spoke to the council. People feared and respected the Alpha…but they loved her.”

She looked down, her voice growing softer. “It’s not that people hate you, Luna. They just… don’t know you.”

Her words hit somewhere deep inside me.

Because she was right.

“But what am I supposed to do,” I whispered, “when all they see is a murderer who left her sister for dead? Even now that she’s back, she’s not exactly helping change that narrative.”

Maria paused, then softly said, “Well… I, for one, believe you, Luna.”

A small smile tugged at my lips. It had been so long since I’d heard those words. Not from Kael. Not from anyone. Not even from myself.

“Tomorrow,” I said, straightening a little, “I want to go out into the pack house. I want to try. I want to change how people see me.”

Maria nodded, pride softening her expression.

“And… does Lord Sylvester always visit this often?”

Maria chuckled. “Sylvester is the Alpha of a neighboring pack. He and Alpha Kael have always been close; they are as thick as blood. He’s always treated this place like it’s his own, so… get used to his presence, Luna.”

“Thank you, Maria,” I said with a small smile.

She nodded and quietly returned to her work.

Still smiling faintly, I lay down properly on the bed. Things were still bad,and messy but I had a plan. And somehow, that gave me a little bit of peace.

I didn’t know when sleep finally took me… but morning came fast.

The first thing I felt was a gentle tug on my shoulder.

“Luna,” Maria said softly, “it’s time to get dressed.”

I blinked, groggy and disoriented, but her tone was already pulling me back into the world.

Standing up groggily, I took a warm bath and dressed in the outfit Maria had laid out. It was a beautiful blue dress that stopped at my thighs in the front, the back flowing elegantly to the floor. Light, graceful, and perfect for movement. The neckline dipped just enough to show a tease of cleavage.

My hair had been styled up, with light jewels woven through the strands. I felt… beautiful. Powerful, even.

Leaving my room, I walked straight to the dining hall.

Kael was already seated.

And unsurprisingly so was Elara. Though her presence was still very new to me.

Her arm was still bandaged, a theatrical touch, considering werewolves heal fast. The wound she inflicted on herself should’ve been gone by now. But of course, appearances mattered.

“Good morning,” I said calmly as I took my seat at the table.

Kael’s heated gaze didn’t go unnoticed. We’d been dancing around the bond like it wasn’t slowly consuming us. Let’s see how long he can keep pretending he doesn’t want me.

“Morning,” Elara murmured sweetly. “I hope you slept well, sister,” she added, her smile wide and blinding.

“Yes, I did,” I replied with a smile of my own, one that mirrored Elara’s too-perfect expression.

Soon, the table was filled with eggs, bacon, roasted meats, and fresh fruits. The kind of meal only Alphas and council members could afford. My stomach grumbled involuntarily.

As a rogue, food like this was a luxury. Back then, I would’ve killed for just a scrap like this. Now… I was sitting in silk, with more food than I could eat.

I couldn’t help but wonder if I could take some of this back? To the people I left behind. To the rogues who don’t have this luxury.

I remembered how I and Keisha used to hunt for food.

Keisha.

It has been almost two weeks since I got here.

And not a single word about her. Not even a whisper.

Suddenly, I didn’t feel like eating anymore.

“Sister, don’t you like the food?” Elara asked, her voice coated in false concern. “Why aren’t you eating?”

She sounded genuinely worried, but I wasn’t going to fool myself into believing it.

I turned my eyes to Kael instead.

“Kael,” I said, my voice steady, “where is Keisha?”

The room stilled.

His hand froze mid-reach for a cup. He didn’t look at me right away.

“I’ve been here almost two weeks,” I continued. “And no one has mentioned her. Not once.”

“The day you came for us in the woods,” I said, my eyes fixed on Kael, “you told your Beta…Damian to take her to the pack house.”

My voice tightened. “So where is she, Kael? She should be here. Why isn’t she with us?”

I leaned in, heart thudding hard now. “Are you keeping her somewhere? In a cell?”

He didn’t answer right away. Just looked at me like he was trying to measure how far I’d go.

I took a shaky breath.

This wasn’t the plan. I was supposed to ask him about meeting the people, about my role. About Sylvester and the bond. Today was meant to be the beginning of something new.

But right now?

Right now I just need to find my friend.

“Oh… didn’t you tell her?” Elara said, her voice light, almost amused.

I turned to her sharply. “Tell me what?”

She blinked innocently, but I didn’t wait for an answer.

“You know nothing about what we’re talking about,” I snapped. “So stay out of it.”

“She… isn’t here,” Kael finally said, looking at me with those soulful eyes.

“Then where is she?” I asked, staring straight into him…refusing to blink.

“It was me,” Elara said sweetly, cutting in like this was a story she enjoyed telling. “She was exchanged… for me.”

The world stopped.

My heartbeat slowed.

“What?” I whispered, barely able to breathe.

Selene povWalking into the tavern, everything seemed to still. Conversations died, cups froze mid-air, and every eye turned to us.They definitely weren’t expecting their Alpha…especially not with a girl like me by his side.Ignoring everyone, he walked straight to the receptionist…a beautiful girl with the same rich dark skin as his. She was smiling like she’d just won a trophy.“What brings you here today, Alpha?” she asked, completely ignoring me.“I need a room,” he said simply. “Somewhere I can stay till tomorrow.”Giving me a dirty look, she walked over to the board filled with keys, grabbed one, and handed it to him.“I’m sorry, there’s just one room,” she said….speaking only to him, like I wasn’t even there.“Don’t worry, we’ll stay together,” he said casually.“What?” she snapped, her mouth falling open like someone had just slapped her.Her eyes flicked to me, then back to him, disbelief written all over her face.I couldn’t help the small smirk that tugged at my lips. But

Selene povI heard a low rumble above me…it was deep and threatening in a way that sent chills down my spine.I pushed hard, trying to shove the weight off me, but the wolf only growled louder, his jaws snapping close to my face like a warning.Realizing I had no other choice, I shifted back into my human form, collapsing onto the cold earth, breathless and shaking. The wolf towering above me shifted a second later, revealing a tall, broad-shouldered man with sharp eyes and a firm stance. He stepped back slightly but didn’t let his guard down.“Luna?” he said cautiously, still watching me like I might bolt.“I’m part of the military wolves,” he added, voice low. “Alpha Kael ordered a special watch on the border today… in case you tried to pass.”My chest tightened, fury and shame clashing inside me.Of course, he would already be aware of my absence.Kael was many things, but a fool wasn’t one of them. Even as kids, he was always one step ahead…he was the calculating, quiet, and dange

Selene povI paced around the room, feeling everything I didn’t know was possible.I felt hatred so much of it I could barely breathe. Hot and sharp anger ,beneath my skin.Disappointment, so heavy it dragged at my chest. But most of all, self-reproach.For letting someone drag me out of the life I was surviving, out of the place I had clawed through pain to call my own.I stopped by the window, gripping the frame tightly as the cold breeze hit my skin.I looked out at the world beyond the park house. From here, I could see the forest…faintly…resting far beyond the borders. The rogue lands.Rogues weren’t allowed to stay in any town for long.Yes, we could sneak in for food or medicine occasionally, but we couldn’t belong. We couldn’t mind-link.We couldn’t be claimed by a pack like normal wolves. Some wolves didn’t make it.Some went mad.Because it’s in our nature to belong to a pack, to a bond, to something. And when that’s taken away… the beast inside claws for control.I wondere

Kael’s POVI turned to walk out, trying to ignore the look of disappointment on her face.Clutching my chest, I made my way to my room, trying to shut out the painful feeling spreading through me like slow poison. And this wasn’t because of the blood bond between us.This was different. It was because of the hurt on my mate’s face.I walked down the long hall, trying to block out the sound of my wolf.He was clawing at my chest, growling at me to go back…To claim her.To protect her from the pain I keep causing. But I can’t do that ,not now.Elera stood at the end of the hall, right outside my door, wearing that same smug smile I wanted to rip off her face. She looked so much like Selene…,But how could two sisters be so different?.I ignored her, walking straight into my room. She walked in too, shutting the door behind her.Without a word, she came closer, wrapping her hands around me from behind as we both faced the mirror.“You made the right choice handing the banquet over to me

Selene pov“So the first lady is Lady Cassy,” Maria said, pointing to the top name on the list.I didn’t tell her I could read.“She’s a beta wolf,” Maria continued. “A skilled healer. She is a bit quiet but smart. Knows a lot about pack history and rituals. She’ll be useful.”I nodded slowly, already picturing her face in the group. I wasn’t looking for status. I needed people who knew what they were doing.“The next lady is Lady Alexa,” Maria said.“Someone I personally know and recommend.”She didn’t say more than that, but I could tell Maria trusted her. That was enough for now.She spent a few more minutes walking me through the rest of the names, pointing out details…who was from which house, what they were known for, and which ones had served in the pack house before. I listened, nodding where it mattered, but it was a lot to take in.Still, I was trying.I crossed my legs and leaned forward.“So what else do I need to know apart from the ladies-in-waiting?” I asked Maria. She

  • The Alpha's Forbidden Mate   Chapter 11 -Prepare for the banquet

Selene pov“Luna, are you okay?” Maria asked, rushing in the moment Kael stepped out.She froze when her eyes landed on me, noticing I was bare under the sheets. Her cheeks flushed deep red, and she immediately looked away, fidgeting with the hem of her apron.I didn’t blame her. Walking into such a scene can be quite distressing.“It’s fine,” I said softly, tugging the blanket higher. “You can look at me now. She peeked up nervously, and I offered a small, tired smile. I could see the questions on her face, but to her credit, she kept them to herself.“I’m sorry,” Maria said, flustered. “I didn’t think to help you out of your clothes. I just… I’ve never seen that kind of reaction before.”I let out a soft sigh, leaning back against the pillows. “It’s fine, Maria. I was just feeling a bit sick, that’s all.”She looked at me, unconvinced. Her brows were pinched, lips pressed together like she wanted to ask more but didn’t know how. I appreciated that she was trying to respect the line
