Chapter 4

“I would like to speak to Nurse Carol. Can you please find her for me?” I asked the receptionist.

“Hold on a minute.”

“Thank you.”

She paged Nurse Carol, and then told me she would be with me in a minute.

I took a seat in the waiting room and restlessly waited.

I’d been talking to Tom Voss for all of forty five minutes. Forty fucking five minutes only. Yet it felt like two hours.

Wow.

Nurse Carol showed up.

“Lyanna? Is something the problem?”

“I think I’ll take you up on that offer. You know the one to put me to sleep until the results are ready?”

“Oh okay. Follow me. We will put you on a propofol IV. Its goal is to induce light relaxation. So you’ll be out of it without any major side effects.”

Oh it also works immediately.” She added as an afterthought.

She led me to a shared room and directed me towards a medical bed, before pulling the curtain divide to afford me some privacy. She then inserted the IV in my arm and in about three minutes I was out.

“Lyanna? Hey.”

I woke up to Dr Hart calling.

“Hey” she said again.

I was looking around, confused. Where was I? I asked myself.

Then I remembered. Hospital. Abnormal libido.

Right.

I was parched.

Dr Hart handed me a tumbler of water and I downed it.

“Yeah propofol does that to you.” She chuckled.

“Carol please refill her tumbler.”

“Thank you.” I said as I handed the tumbler to Nurse Carol.

“So, how are we feeling?”

“Groggy.” I answered.

“Hm. How about with your libido?”

Strangely I didn’t feel anything. It had just gone. I was feeling normal. Like my old self again.

“Normal…” I told her uncertainly.

“You’re sure.”

“Yes. It’s…gone. I don’t feel anything. My mind seems clear now. Could it be the sedative?”

“Could be, or not.” Then she added carefully. “We found something.”

The room suddenly felt much smaller.

"What?"

Dr. Hart rotated one of the images she was holding toward me.

"Part of your brain associated with sexual arousal and hormone regulation appears enlarged and unusually active."

Lyanna stared at the scan.

"You mean there's actually something wrong with me?"

"Yes," Dr. Hart said. "And based on your blood work, it's releasing signals that are causing your body to produce far more sex hormones than normal."

For the first time since passing out in her classroom, Lyanna felt a strange sense of relief.

“Is there anything that can be done about it?”

"These are hormone suppressant tablets. The dosage is higher than what I'd normally prescribe because your hormone levels are unusually elevated." She pushed a tray of tablets toward me.

Lyanna picked up the prescription.

"Will they stop it?"

"They should reduce the intensity of the urges. Take one when symptoms begin to escalate. If the episodes become more frequent or severe, contact me immediately."

"So this is manageable?"

"For now, yes. But I want to monitor the growth closely. Whatever is causing it, it's progressing unusually fast."

“I feel fine now. Do I have to take it?”

“Wait until the urges come back. It should take fifteen to twenty minutes to kick in by the way.”

“Thank you Dr Hart.”

She handed me her business card. “Call me in case something else happens.”

When she left the room, I asked Nurse Carol if I’d sleep some more.

“I’m still sleepy.”

“It’s okay. When you’re ready just check out at the receptionist.”

“Thank you.”

Then I drifted off.
