My wolf was fighting with me the whole time I ran away from Ketzia, I hurt my mate and she was in pain and I was a coward running away.

Fucken idiot I told myself running towards the packhouse.

I changed back into my human form and went upstairs to my bedroom to put on boxer shorts and a shirt. I made my way downstairs to the dining room which was situated in front of the kitchen at the back of the house.

"Rad, please tell me you saw something, or even caught the scent of the Laican?" I asked Radley as I walked into the dining room.

He shook his head no, "There was nothing, not a trace nor were there any followers of the laican that I could bring back to interrogate." he sounded unhappy with his findings.

I say we patrol the area taking shifts for the next week to see what we can find if we don't find anything we give up and Chase and I will tell the rest of the pack to make sure that new turners will need to be trained at the packhouse.

Chase was addressing the rest of the pack, but I wasn't concentrating, my wolf had other things on his mind. Ketzia.

I could see her standing in front of me trying to nick me with the knife as I backed up and swung at her. Her long black hair tied up in a high pony, it had slight curls in them, and when she moved I could smell her scent. It was ecstasy.

I closed my eyes at the memory of her scent when someone hit the table waking me up from my memory, "What!?" I growled.

Radley started laughing, "Dude, chill you zoned out there and we were having a debate on if we should get pizza or make pasta tonight."

Aria looked at me confused and then met eyes with Cordelia who was equally confused. Dakota got up looking at everyone, "Guys, if you were actually listening to the link, Kye was thinking about a girl. His mate I'm guessing?" her face lit up waiting to see my facial expression.

Steph started sniffing the room, "Is that why I can small strawberries and mint all over you?" Kelly slapped Steph on the arm at his remark. "She's the hunter. They can't be together, you tit!"

I looked at Dakota and Kelly, "How did you guys know?" they both cocked their heads to the side making a sarcastic face when Dakota said, "Really Kye? You linked us during the fight, we could practically hear your wolf scream mate the whole time."

I got up feeling my face going red and walked out of the room to my bedroom. I lay on my bed thinking about her, and I could feel a smile appearing on my face.

I woke up the following morning and decided to track my mate's scent. I transformed into my werewolf sniffing around the lake. I caught her scent which took me to a house in the woods. It was very open, allowing every part of natural lighting to enter the house.

The front door opened, causing myself to stagger back into the forest to avoid being seen. I caught her scent and followed closely behind, making sure she didn't see me.

Moving faster, I move ahead of her and change into my human form. I could smell the strawberry and mint shampoo behind me and it brought my wolf out, I looked behind me and she was frightened, without saying a word she staggered back and ran towards her house.

"You fucken idiot!" my wolf screamed at me. I rolled my eyes, "You should have eased into it, be gentle with amate!" he yelled.

"You shouldn't get excited about her scent!" I scolded back, making my wolf growl.

Desperate to know my mate, I snuck up to her room; the next day; when she was not there, I found her calendar on the desk with the next day's date circled with 'Birthday ceremony' written in.

I overheard her father say there was a robbery at the store when my wolf took over, "Mate is in trouble. We need to see if mate it's okay!" he growled as I made my way to the shop.

I stood outside across the street from the shop when she walked out. She was half running, constantly looking back at the shop.

I took a step forward to see if she is okay but instead of looking in my direction she just came crashing into my chest.

She fell to the ground, holding her head. Her eyes were red from crying and it made my heartache. "I'm so sorry. I wasn't looking where I was going," she said, wiping her tears from her face.

Helping her up, "Are you okay?" I asked, searching for her innocent face.

She starts nodding, taking her car keys out before walking towards the car, not looking back. She started her car and drove leaving my heartbreak in the sight of how distressed my mate looked. "Oh my mate, how I wished I could take your pain away," I said before walking into the forest.

I made my way to the packhouse. "There have been no signs of the Laican so we will all take on the duties of training the new wolves starting from tomorrow," Chase said to the pack as I entered the house.

"I agree with Chase that if the new wolves can be trained to control their anger we will be able to live in peace with the humans again," I said standing with my body leaning against the door of the dining room.

"We can take the first pair." Cordelia said walking towards me intertwining her fingers into mine, I let out a growl and Cordelia, stepped back "I have a mate! Which is your Alpha female, you will respect Ketzia, she may be a hunter but she is my mate." I yelled signalling Cordelia to fall back in place.

She bowed moving back slowly, "Sorry Alpha, I'll get back in line."

I linked to Chase telling him that I will be going to Ketzia's birthday ceremony tonight but that I was going to take a nap first; he nodded and carried on with the meeting.

I made my way up to the bedroom and fell into my bed letting my body drift off into a deep sleep. I was dreaming about the day our pack was captured, that day haunted me even though it was nine years ago I still could fathom losing my mother to a teenager with a bow.

I sat up in my bed the minute I was stabbed, looking at my surroundings. My heart was racing and I was glad to see that I was not in that horrible basement.

I shook off the memory and walked towards the shower so that I can get ready to go to Ketzia's birthday. I put a towel around me and walked towards my cupboard, I pulled out a black tux with a white shirt.

I waited in the forest near the entrance of their venue, waiting for Ketzia to show up. I could feel butterflies in my stomach. The nerves are not subsiding with every minute I stand here looking for my mate.

Eventually, a black tuck shows up and Ketzia climbs out, she is staring in my direction which means that the bond is taking effect.

Ketzia tried fighting the urge to come here, almost making her faint when she let her father and brother know that she needs a minute.

She slowly made her way into the forest, I waited until she was hidden before I walked up to her, trapping her body against a tree.

"W-who are you?" She asked looking up to look at me, but I didn't say anything.

She cautiously moved her hands up to my face, her touch igniting every nerve sending shocks through my system.

My wolf showing himself at her touch, she jumps at the sight of his eyes. Pulling her hands away from my face, I can hear her heart begin to beat faster. "P-please d-don't hurt m-me." she pleads, closing her eyes.

Feeling her fear, I pulled her closer into an embrace, nuzzling my head into her neck and inhaling her scent, "I could never hurt you." I reassure her and with that, her tense body eases.

I step back, removing my arms from beside her, hoping that she won't run away, "I had to come to see you! I'm sorry, I kept telling myself that things would never work out between us but I feel drawn to you and it's eating me alive." Pain evident in my voice.

Her eyebrows furrow as she looks in my direction, judgment evident in her voice, "I don't think I understand what you mean? Have you been stalking me? Who are you?!" she yells as her body tenses.

She staggers back in the direction of the venue, not taking her eyes off me. Before I know it she is making a run for it and my wolf lets out a growl.

She tripped over a root protruding out the ground and her body met the ground with a loud thud, "Ouch!" she screams.

My heart aching for her to pull her into an embrace, skin on skin contact making my body heat up.

"W-who are you?" I can hear her voice breaking from fear, "If you are going to kill me just do it. Don't make me suffer, just kill me."

Hurt evident in the way I'm feeling I let her go, "This was a mistake." her touch lingering on my skin. I can't be with her, I need to let her go.

And with that, I make my way further into the woods.

I made sure to stay within the surroundings for the rest of the night, in case she needed my help. I sat on the nearby rock debating if I'm going to be alone for the rest of my life or if she is going to come around.

"She is our mate. Go to mate. Our Mate will understand." my wolf said reassuring me that she will come around.

Before I knew it I was walking into the venue, towards Ketzia. Her friends became quiet, the one blushing a bright red.

"Do you mind if I have a moment alone with the birthday girl ladies?" I asked to hope for them to say yes. Her friends got up telling her to let her know if she needs their help.

She turned to look at me and I could instantly see her bare skin, I bit my lip trailing from her bare next to her bust.

She closes her chest with her hand before furrowing her eyes, "Uhm who are you? I didn't catch your name."

I smile looking down at my hands before back up to her, "My name is Kye Brecks, I just needed to know that you were okay. And I need to speak to you privately." grabbing her hand in mine.

She pulled her hand away, her expression getting angry, "Was it you outside in the forest? Is it not enough that you are stalking me at work, you have to come here too?" she lowly shouts at me.

My face fell at the realisation of my stalking, "Please can you give me five minutes to explain?" I asked getting up, pointing to the back where the forest is.

We made our way into the forest, making sure that no one saw us. She spoke up, "So I know what you are and by the looks of it you should know that you are risking your life by being here so why are you here?"

I pinched the bridge of my nose before looking up to her, "You need to be open-minded about this please?"

She gives me the go-ahead to speak, "This morning at the shop wasn't a coincidence. I tracked you there, but not in a bad way. The morning at the lake, when you were eavesdropping; you looked me in the eyes, I didn't want to believe it at first but the night you were hunting me too I felt it." I paused running my hand through my messy hair. "The moon never lies and I know that now. I really don't know how to tell you this." I stopped, denial spreading across my face.

"Spit it out Kye!" she yelled and I looked up at her.

I nodded looking up at the sky, "My wolf found its mate, I don't know how it's possible because you kill us for a living but you are my mate."

"Is that why I'm so drawn to you? Is that why I almost fainted out there by ignoring going into the woods?" confusion in her voice.

I nodded, placing my hands on her shoulder, "I know this is a lot to handle but I need you to know why you are feeling this way."

"You could end up being killed by me and you still risked your life?"

I nodded, running my hand through my messy hair again.
