When I woke, the dorm was silent. Lily, Stella, and Fiona had already left for the night to visit their families.

“They could’ve at least woken me,” I muttered, hugging my arms around myself. The empty room felt too big, too quiet.

I decided to grab a glass of water to shake off the uneasy feeling. As I stepped into the hallway, a flicker of movement caught my eye near the window.

My breath hitched.

Standing just beyond the courtyard was the same woman I’d seen before,the old witch with the staff.

“No way,” I whispered. Heart pounding, I pushed through the door. “Hey,wait!”

The woman didn’t turn, but somehow I heard her voice, soft and distant, echoing in my head: Come, child… the moon is waiting.

A strange pull urged me forward. “Who are you?” I called, my footsteps quickening. “Why are you following me?”

She glided ahead silently, leading me through the trees until we reached the lake bathed in full-moon light. The air shimmered, heavy and electric.
