Damon’s posture stiffened beside me.

“Someone’s watching,” he muttered low.

Before I could answer, a growl echoed behind us.

“INCOMING!” Roseline shouted.

Wolves—twisted, corrupted-looking—burst from between the shattered houses, eyes pitch-black like something had eaten their souls.

They attacked fast.

I didn’t think. I threw my hands out, blue energy bursting from my palms like lightning.

“Get back!” I yelled.

A wave of power slammed into two wolves, sending them flying. William blocked Lily with a shield of air, and Damon shifted mid-jump, taking down another.

“We can’t hold them forever!” Roseline cried while dodging a swipe.

“I’m trying!” I shouted back, firing another blast. “Just keep them away from Granny.

We fought harder, pushing through them. Every time one fell, two more seemed to crawl from the shadows. My power burned painfully under my skin, but I didn’t stop. I couldn’t.

Not when Granny might still be alive.
