16. Ruins of war

After burying his late wife himself, he went to see Lillian. She was awake on the bed but was crying silently.

Liam sat beside her on the bed and caressed her head.

“Stop crying. You’ll get a terrible headache.” He told her.

She didn’t say anything. She just got up and hugged him tightly. He hugged her back and kissed the top of her head.

“You should eat something. You haven’t eaten anything since breakfast and it is almost nighttime.” He told her.

“I don’t want to eat.” She told him in a low, sad tone.

“You have to eat, love.” He told her.

She shook her head.

“Well, if you won’t eat, then I won’t eat as well.” He told her.

She wiped her tears away and looked at her father with puffy eyes.

“Are you hungry?” she asked him.

“I’m starving.” He told her.

“Okay, then let’s eat.” She told him.
