Kiera's POV
Staring into the mirror, I applied the final touches to my face, a smile curling on my lips as I blew a playful kiss at my reflection. Grabbing my handbag from the nightstand, I strode toward the door, the sharp click of my heels echoing across the marble floor.
“Good morning, Kiera. How was your night?” Cole asked, trailing behind me as I descended the staircase, each step taken with deliberate grace.
“The best night ever,” I answered softly, heading straight for the dining area.
“That’s clearly written all over your face, my Luna,” the butler remarked with a warm smile as he began to serve my breakfast.
“Do you mind if I brief you on the preparations so far?” Cole inquired, already pulling out his tablet. I nodded faintly, lifting my spoon and fork.
“Go ahead,” I replied, and he immediately tapped on the screen.
“Alpha Preston is scheduled to arrive in two hours. I received word that their plane landed in South America ten minutes ago.” A smile tugged at my lips before I could stop it. I quickly shoved a spoonful of food into my mouth to conceal it, though it felt impossible to suppress the excitement blooming within me.
“The hall has been decorated, and the welcome party is almost ready. They’re just waiting for your signal before heading to the pack gate,” he continued, listing all the final touches. His words filled me with pride; I'd handled everything so well. Preston would be proud when he returned.
“That’s wonderful. In an hour, tell the welcoming team to begin the singing and dancing, then have them proceed to the pack gates,” I instructed.
“Noted,” he replied, typing swiftly.
“That’ll be all,” I added, resuming my meal, though my thoughts drifted to Preston. Every fiber of my being longed to be in his arms again. Five whole years, five agonizing years apart from my mate.
After marking me as his Luna, war broke out between the werewolves and vampires in Asia. A brutal, devastating war. Every Alpha from across the globe was summoned to Asia with at least a hundred warriors. I hadn’t wanted him to go. I’d begged him to find an excuse, to send Cole in his place, but he refused. Preston was a proud nationalist, a protector of the werewolf kind. Renowned and respected for it.
No matter how much I pleaded, he wouldn't bend. I feared losing him. Nothing was guaranteed on the battlefield, except death. And I couldn't bear that. I simply couldn't.
“I promise to come back to you once the war is over.” His words from that very day still echoed clearly in my mind, like he was whispering them right now.
“In my absence, you’re the Alpha. Take care of the pack until I return.” I had been too overwhelmed to speak. My tears said it all. My lips moved, but no sound emerged.
“I love you so much, and nothing can change that.” Those were his last words before he kissed me deeply and then walked away without glancing back. I found my voice too late. I called out. Likewise, I ran after him, but it was no use. He was gone. It felt like my soul had been ripped away. I could barely breathe.
For days, I remained locked inside, trying to adjust to the space beside me at night. It was the hardest period of my life. But his words, they strengthened me. “In my absence, you’re the Alpha.”
I vowed to make him proud. I wasn’t just Alpha; I was still his Luna. Furthermore, I built emotional bonds with my people and stayed strong when they needed a leader. Not only that, but I became a warrior for them. There were moments when I wanted to break down, to vanish, but his promise gave me strength.
And my people, they made it bearable. Sometimes, without asking, they threw celebrations in my honor, recognizing my efforts. Those moments were everything to me. Their support kept me afloat, even in the face of fire and storms. For them, I learned to fake my smiles.
In the blink of an eye, five days became five weeks, then months. And when I thought the pain would end, I woke up to realize five years had passed.
“My Luna, they’re approaching Moonlight Pack,” Cole announced, snapping me out of my thoughts.
“What?” I exclaimed, springing to my feet. “Signal the welcoming team. Immediately,” I commanded, striding toward the front door.
“How did that happen? They just arrived in America moments ago…” I mumbled as I walked toward the parking lot.
“I received a message from Will; they chartered a private jet,” Cole replied behind me. I let out a small “Oh,” then climbed into the already opened car door.
“Good morning, my beautiful Luna. How was your night?” the driver greeted as he settled into the driver’s seat.
“It was lovely. Take me to my office. We’ll head to the pack gate afterward.”
“Yes, ma,” he replied, starting the engine and driving off immediately. Along the way, I spotted the welcoming team forming neat groups, dancing and singing their way toward the pack gate.
Upon reaching the office, I stepped out and rushed inside. I retrieved the garland I’d made just for Preston, holding it like a sacred treasure, then descended the stairs and reentered the car. Without needing instructions, the driver took us straight to the pack gate.
As soon as we arrived, I stepped out. The welcoming team’s drums thundered, their dances more vibrant and joyful than ever. But beneath my calm exterior, my heart pounded with anxious excitement.
I tried to imagine his reaction; would he kiss me passionately? Hug me like he'd never let go?
“Kiera, pull yourself together,” I whispered to myself, drawing in a steady breath.
Just then, the jet came into view. The drumming intensified. We all waited, watching intently as the aircraft descended and touched down. The air staircase extended, and the team inched closer in rhythm to the beat.
I walked toward the jet as the door opened, and then I saw him. Preston emerged from the cabin in a sleek all-black ensemble, sunglasses perfectly perched on his face. My breath caught as I noticed he was holding a woman’s hand. They were looking into each other's eyes as they descended together.
My shoulders dropped, but I forced my smile to remain in place, even as my heart shattered into fragments.
I approached him, raised the garland, and gently kissed his cheek, then briefly his lips, before placing it around his neck.
“Welcome back, honey,” I murmured, and he smiled, returning the kiss without letting go of the other woman’s hand.
“Who is she?” I mind-linked him, embracing him tightly, my heartbeat louder than the surrounding drumming.
“She’s my fated mate.”
Kiera's POV“You don't need to hold my hand. I am still the Luna of this pack regardless of my offense. Leave me; I can walk,” I said to them, but they all kept a straight face, tightening their hold on my arm as though I was perhaps talking to myself.“That's an order,” I said with my Luna authority, but it seems I am speaking to the wind. The most embarrassing part of it all is that they're not using a car; they intentionally want the entire pack to witness this embarrassment.“Gerald, use the car!” I voiced out as I began to see my people staring in surprise. He didn't even flinch; he kept walking towards the dungeon. At this point it is of no use to say a word; it's obvious he won't listen to a thing I say. Perhaps the minute he was given that order, he stopped seeing me as a Luna and saw me as a criminal. I didn't bow my head in shame; I held my head up high, staring back at anyone who stared at me. I am still the Luna. This is so unexpected of the guards, the same group of peopl
Kiera's POVAfter the confrontation with Tasha, I didn't feel like going into the forest searching for the drugs anymore; I just wanted to go somewhere far, so far away from the pack, from everyone. He can't bring in a liability into my house and still need my help; perhaps I should let the virus get to him so he will know my importance.Just then I saw two men covering their entire bodies with a transparent, nylon-like gown, a nose mask, and gloves. They carried a woman and a little girl child and laid them on a stretcher and pushed it towards the emergency hospital bus. My shoulders dropped instantly. One thing is sure: I am the Luna of the Moonlight Pack, and right now my people require me more than ever.“Mind link, everyone, we're heading into the forest; come with your equipment.” I mind-linked my assistant Martha, then continued walking towards the forest. After thirty minutes, Martha and two others arrived, breathing heavily.“I don't need to tell you what our mission is; it's
Aethelwulf POV“How's the situation over there?” I asked over the phone as my driver kept driving.“It's getting bad by the minute, twenty persons with the same bite,” he said over the line, and I rubbed my temple slightly. This is so bad; I hope the doctors don't get infected too.“I'm close by,” I added, then hung up in the car. I continued doing my research with my tablet.Last night was bliss. I have been celibate for over two years now, but then I don't understand why I gave in to the lady's request without a second thought, as though something pulled me to do that.I shook my head lightly; this isn't the time to be thinking of the sex I had last night. Fair enough, it was bliss, but then it ends there; she should find her way back to wherever she's from.“We're here,” my driver announced, and I looked up from my tablet immediately. I opened the car door and stepped down.“Preston had really done a good job here,” I muttered as I walked towards the gate; the guards might recogniz
Kiera's POVThe beeping of my alarm continued. I turned to the other side of the bed, using the pillow to cover my ears, but then the beeping continued. I furiously stood up and turned off the alarm.Looking around the room, no incident of last night came to my mind, my head banging so badly. “Fuck.” I exclaimed as I stood up from the bed, and then I looked down on myself, boom. With no single clothing on, I am stark naked; I couldn't help bulging my eyes out in awe.The realization just dawned on me that I don't know my way around this apartment; it's rather foreign.“Where the hell is this?” I asked rhetorically as I stared around the apartment with a furrowed eyebrow, my mind rumbling with hundreds of reasons why I could be naked in a foreign bed, fear creeping into my head, but then it all began to crumble back into my head broken, like a mirage yet in flashes. There's the bar, there's the dark, handsome man, then. “Do you mind if we fuck?”“Shit.” I lay down as I threw myself on
Aethelwulf’s POVIt was already late when we arrived. As the driver drove past the dark streets, I had my eyes glued to the car window, staring out of it. Everything felt so foreign, having been in the human world for almost ten years and then coming back after ten years; no single structure is fresh in my head. Kudos to the Alpha; he did an impressive job here. It’s more like a city of its own than a pack.“Boss, I'm heading to the penthouse,” my driver announced, and I didn’t reply at first, contemplating whether he should go there or not.“Okay.” I finally said. After a few minutes we arrived. I walked into the house; as expected, it's sparkling clean. I took a quick shower and opened the refrigerator; I didn't find anything enticing, suddenly craving an outdoor drink. Likewise, I walked out of the house, and thankfully my driver is still around.“Hey, you know a good place I can grab a drink?” I asked, and he nodded, and I hit his shoulder lightly with a smile, then entered into t
Kiera's POV"She's my fated mate." That word kept ringing in my head even as I sat beside him on the couch, his fated mate at his right side, whispering words into his ears as the party continued. The dancers were now on the dance floor, giving their best with smiles, happiness displayed in each step they took, even as everyone wore an admiring look on their faces, I couldn't help the deep frown on my face. It felt as though someone forced my ass in the seat, nothing interests me here. All I want to do right now is to go to my room and have a deep sleep then wake with all this as a dream."Babe, what's the matter?" Preston's voice came from behind, I turned to him and flashed him a fake smile, my heart palpitating loudly the minute I heard his voice, my emotions riling up."I'm feeling a headache." I voiced out as I turned back to the dancers, asking me stupid questions as though he expected me to be okay with the fact that he brought in another woman or the fact that he wants me to s
