Christian had just dropped Miriam back at home. She entered the house before admiring the ring clutched to her fingers. She just couldn't believe that Christain had asked her to marry him. Who would have thought he would make such an announcement at such an expensive gathering.
"When did you get back?" The voice of her sister Eleanor echoed, making Miriam turn to give her a huge grin. "You won't believe what happened at the party Eleanor," Miriam let out happily.
"What? Tell me," Eleanor said, taking a seat as Miriam sat down beside her.
Miriam said nothing more as she put her hands forward displaying the expensive-looking ring. Eleanor slowly held onto her sister's hand before staring back at her in gloominess. "What happened? You don't peek happy," Miriam let out.
"Uhmm," Eleanor said, rubbing the side of her neck.
"What is it?" Miriam asked.
"I just feel sad because of how that family treats you because of our poor status," Eleanor said. "I know that you care about me so much but I love Christian and I want to spend my whole life waking up next to him," Miriam muttered.
"I understand all that Miriam but who would be in support of such marriage? I'm only concerned about you, I know his parents would think you are after their money rather than you love their son wholeheartedly, trust me." Eleanor let out.
"What if things get hard and Christian can't keep up?" Eleanor let out worriedly.
"Christian isn't like that and you can tell right?" Miriam uttered, Eleanor gave her a nodding smile before pulling her into a hug. "Congrat, you have grown up so fast," Eleanor said, kissing the top of her sister's head.

"Congrats son," Christain's Father muttered heartily before patting his son on the shoulders "Common Christian, why did you have to embarrass our family publicly?" His mother asked furiously "I don't understand what you mean Mother," Christain asked.
'Do you have to go public with the announcement that you want to marry that girl?" his mother asked yet again.
"Mother, I love Miriam, and letting the world know about it isn't a bad idea." He replied. "Are you insane? There are a thousand prestigious and nice girls out there, why settle for a girl who only loves you for your money?" His mother inquired, panting hard.
"I think that's enough Meghan, I believe being happy for our son isn't hard." Christain's father chipped in.
"Mother, I respect and adore you but I wouldn't allow you to speak such a way about the woman I love, it's my final decision and you can't do anything about it," Christain made clear.
"I'm your mother Christian, I know that girl doesn't deserve you," his mother let out yet again. "I'm not disputing the fact that you ain't my mother. Talking about who deserves one another, I think Miriam doesn't deserve a person like me mother. Miriam is a definition of beauty and brains mother and all men would kill to be with her." He muttered.
"Nonsense Christian. Why don't you talk to your son," Christain's mother let out to her husband. "This is the first and last time I hear you speak this way about Miriam like that. Why don't you just respect our son's decision and be happy for him? The young man wants our support and how hard can that be Meghan?" Christain's dad let out.
"If this is what our son wants, let it be, and don't interfere! Moreover, you aren't the one he is getting married to," Christain's dad finally said to his wife. Her face scrunched in a frown, she stared at the face of her son and husband before leaving angrily.
"Thank you for the support dad," Christian said with a smile before hugging him.

The next day, Christain had picked Miriam up. He had wanted their wedding to be grand and something that should be known by everybody in the country. "What are we going to be doing here?" Miriam asked Christian's hands held her waist as they walked inside the Robert mansion.
"Uhmmm, it's normal for every wedding to have a wedding planner! I have invited one so you could tell her how you want the wedding to look like." Christian explained.
"Do we have to go this big for the wedding? A simple wedding with all our loved ones is enough," Miriam let out.
Christian was about to reply but his mother had approached them. "Hello," she said staring at Miriam. "Well, hello Ma, how are you doing?" She asked with a smile but Christians mother ignored her greeting before striding towards her son.
"Thank God you are back, do you have any idea of who is back to see you?" His mother asked.
"A special person to your heart is here Christian," his mother let out not minding the fact that Miriam was present and listening. "Mother, there is nobody special to my heart other than Miriam," Christian said, ignoring his mother's words.
He held Miriam's hands to leave but stopped on his track when he noticed his sexy ex-girlfriend present in his house. She wore a body-hugging skirt and a crop top that pushed her boobs, her high heels clicking to the floor was visible to the ear.
"Lara?" He muttered.
"What are you doing here?" He asked, Miriam, stared at the lady before glaring back at Christain.
Miriam wondered what connection they had with each other until she noticed the Lady called Lara striding towards Christain, Miriam was a bit hurt when Lara hugged Christain tightly.
Christain removed Lara's wrapped hands on his neck away before giving his mother a stern look. Lara tried to wrap her hands around him again but he took a step back before she could.
"What are you doing here?" Christian asked again.
"Why? Can't I come here any longer?" She asked. "I didn't mean it that way but you could have let me know," Christain insisted.
"I thought I was always welcomed here? I missed you so much Christain and i was thinking we could still ignite the good old times," Lara said touching the side of his cheeks before turning to stare at Miriam who had been staring at all the drama that had been displaying right in front of her.
"Wait, you're Miriam right?" Lara asked but Miriam said nothing as her face was replenished with humiliation. "I have heard a lot about you, it's nice to finally meet you. I'm Lara! Christain's ex-girlfriend," Lara said before inching towards Miriam.
She engulfed her into a hug before pulling away. Miriam glared at Lara one last time before running out of the house.
How could she ever think she could match up to Christain's standard? By mare look at Lara, Miriam knew she was the complete opposite of the sort of girl Christain would want to end up with.
Miriam had gotten home to notice her sister and friend watching the news. "You are here Miriam," Doris said the moment she noticed her friend. "Hey," Eleanor simply said."I'm glad that you are home because Carlos has just been arrested by the police!" She blurted out while Miriam gaze was fixed to the television. Miriam's heart skipped a beat as she turned her attention to the television. The news anchor's voice filled the room, reporting on the arrest of Carlos, a name she recognized so well. The screen displayed footage of a man being led away in handcuffs by police officers."I honestly had no idea that he would be handcuffed in front of everybody," Miriam said, a little bit guilty. Miriam's voice trembled as she spoke, the weight of the situation sinking in. "Well, I think that's good. That way, other criminals like him would know exactly what would happen to them when they do similar things." Doris said with no remorse.Miriam nodded slowly, her mind racing with a mix of e

Meanwhile, Gina and her son walked inside the company, they discussed. "I thought that you weren't joining the press conference?" Gina questioned while she held her expensive purse tightly. Carlos looked up at her with a serious expression. "I just thought that it was best I keep myself busy because it takes my mind off Miriam." He replied. "By the way, regarding your court case. You don't have to worry about it because I promise to do everything for the court to dismiss your case, okay?" Gina told her son. Carlos nodded, a mixture of gratitude and worry on his face. "Thanks, Mom. I appreciate your support, but I can't shake off the feeling that things might not go as smoothly as we hope. The evidence against me seems pretty strong."Gina sighed and placed a reassuring hand on Carlos's shoulder. "I understand your concerns, Carlos. But we have a good legal team working on your case, and I trust that they'll do everything they can to prove your innocence. We'll fight this together,
After leaving Miriam's apartment, Carlos couldn't go back home. He had driven to the bar to drink his pains away.Carlos sat in his car with his friend, parked outside the bar, feeling a mix of emotions after leaving Miriam's apartment. He had hoped for a different outcome, but the conversation he had with his son had left him with a heavy heart. Unable to face the solitude of his empty home, he sought solace in the familiar comfort of the bar.As he stepped out of the car, the cool night air enveloped him, causing him to shiver slightly. With a deep sigh, he walked towards the entrance with Jeffrey beside him, the dimly lit sign above casting a faint glow on the pavement. The sound of laughter and music seeped through the door, a stark contrast to the somberness that weighed on his mind.Pushing open the heavy wooden door, Carlos entered the bar and was immediately greeted by a wave of noise and the scent of alcohol. The room was filled with customers engaged in energetic conversa
It was late at night but Carlos didn't mind as he drove to Miriam's apartment with his friend Jeffery tagging along. The streets were quiet and the city lights cast a dim glow on the deserted sidewalks."Carlos, hey, it's late!" Jeffery said the moment they arrived in front of Miriam's apartment."Miriam might think you are here to kidnap Henry!" Jeffery added and Carlos would have chuckled at his statement if things were alright. "I just want to see Henry and not cause trouble!" Carlos said. He glanced at Jeffery, who was looking slightly worried."I understand your concern, Jeffery," Carlos replied, trying to reassure his friend. "But you know how much Henry means to me." Carlos added.Jeffery nodded reluctantly, understanding the depth of Carlos's feelings for his son. "I get it, man. We can do this tomorrow. Why don't we go home and come back!" Jeffrey said.Carlos hesitated for a moment, torn between his eagerness to see his son and Jeffery's valid concerns. He knew Jeffery was
“Doris, please take care of Henry while I’m away. Okay!” Miriam said, grabbing her bag to leave the house.“Sure, I would make sure that he gets his bath,” Doris said but their little discussion was interrupted when Eleanor walked inside followed by Christian and the lawyer. “Miriam, you have got a guest,” Eleanor informed her sister before she could leave. “Miriam, Carlos had done something through a high source of justice!” Christian voiced.“And what’s that?” Miriam asked.“Based on everything that the lawyer had gotten from the court, it says that Carlos has already admitted the incident to you and that you have forgiven him before you even got married!” Christian voiced out and that had left Miriam’s mouth to hang open. “But that’s not true, he merely even told me that he was the one who had violated me. Oh my Goodness!” Miriam said, rubbing her forehead. “That’s a great defense!” Christian voiced out.“Your ex-husband is such a liar,” Doris said, wiggling her head in shame.
