After breakfast, Dad and I prepared to head out to buy some essentials. I open the door and almost run into an enormous man. I gasp and take two steps back, almost falling into my dad. “Lin, it’s ok! This is Mr. Matt. He’s here to make sure we’re safe. I’m sorry. I completely forgot to tell you.” I take a deep breath in and try to compose myself. “It’s ok, Dad. It’s nice to meet you Mr. Matt. I’m Lindsey.” I extend a hand to greet him. “Nice to meet you, Lindsey. Sorry if I scared you. I probably would’ve decked someone if they were standing outside my door.” Mr. Matt jokes. I let out a laugh. “Well I guess it’s a good thing it’s me and not you.” “I have a daughter about your age. Her name is Callyn, but we all call her Callie. She’s a senior at the high school. She’s a handful, but I hope the two of you will become friends. I’m almost finished setting up the security cameras. Should be finished by the time you get back.” “Well then we will get out of your way. Thank you for making time for us so short notice.” Dad says. “Thanks Mr. Matt! I hope I will meet her soon. I’m sure we will get along great!” Unless of course she turns out to be a total jerk, I think to myself. “No problem! And I’ll tell her to keep an eye out for you Lindsey! If you guys get lost, just mindlink Beta Dave. He will make sure you get what you need.” We thank Mr. Matt again and head out in the rental car. Dad says we need to get new clothes first, just enough to get us by for another week. Hopefully we will be able to get the rest of our things soon. We get to the department store and split up. I go pick out some essentials first; Dad packed about three sets of clothes for each of us, but he said we need one set for at least every day of the week. I prefer comfort over style, so I grab a few pairs of leggings, some joggers, and two pairs of jeans. I pick out a few shirts, a sweatshirt, and a hoodie since it’s still cold out. I grab some underwear and socks last, and go browse shoes for a little while. Not that I need them, but shoes are my favorite. I text Dad to tell him that I’m finished and that I’m in the shoe aisle though he knows me well enough to know that’s where I’d be. We have to go buy his scrubs after we finish up here. I hope we have another day together before he has to start work. I’m not ready to be on my own or start a new school just yet. “Hey kiddo. Got everything you need?” He walks up holding his haul over his arm. “Yep! Wait, why do you have dress pants? Worried you’ll have important meetings your first week?” I ask jokingly. “Oh shoot. I forgot to tell you to pick out something nice. We have pack dinner on Saturday. Our new Alpha and Luna want to introduce us to the pack and give us a big welcome. Go find a nice dress. I’m assuming you’ve found some shoes you want?” He half jokes. “Maybe,” I reply mischievously. “I’ll be right back. I saw one that I liked on a mannequin. Let me go see if they have my size.” “Grab two dresses just in case. I don’t know how long it will take to get our old things, and I want you to have options. Hand me what you’ve got so far, and I’ll wait for you at the checkout.” I hurry back to the women’s clothing and find the dress I saw. It’s a silky royal blue with a sweetheart neckline, off the shoulder straps, and an A line skirt that should hit right at my knee. Ironically I like dressing more modest than most wolves. I just feel more comfortable that way. I quickly look around and spot a lavender chiffon style dress with a straight fit and spaghetti straps. It’s gathered on the sides but still should come down well past my mid thigh. I hurry back to Dad, who is waiting patiently with the pair of shoes I was eyeing in one hand and a pile of clothes on his other arm. I don’t know why he didn’t just get a cart. “Dad I don’t need those shoes. We’ve got enough as it is. I have three pairs at the house already.” “Eh I think you need these. I haven’t bought you new shoes in a while. Besides they’re a little nicer so they will go with your dress.” Nicer is an understatement. They’re beige pumps from my favorite shoe designer. Even though they’re plain, they still cost a fortune. “Did you see the price on those? They’re like $100. Totally not worth it right now. I can get some different ones that will serve the same purpose for a lot less.” I turn to go back to the shoe section, but Dad stops me. “Lin I have plenty of money. The least I can do is buy you a nice pair of shoes. Unless you’re going back to get those sneakers you were eyeballing then don’t even think about it.” “Just how long were you watching me?” I ask with a giggle. “You’re in your own world when you’re around shoes. I’ve known that since you were five.” He gives me that bittersweet smile that always pops up when he talks about me as a kid. “Yeah well I guess there are worse addictions.” I smile back. We checkout and go load up the car. Dad tells me to go to the food court while he buys some scrubs. He meets me maybe 15 minutes later with a large bag. We sit down and eat some lo mein, orange chicken, and wontons, enjoying each other’s company.~ Lindsey ~ Sunlight peeks through my window, waking me up. I must have finally dozed off sometime last night. I tossed and turned for what felt like hours. Dad saw right through me last night and refused to let me stay up watching TV, knowing I was planning an all nighter. The little sleep that I did get l did not include any more nightmares. I guess I should count that as a blessing. I head out of the bedroom and see Dad in khaki dress pants, brown dress shoes, a white button up, and a blue tie. “You look nice,” I tell Dad sleepily, as I wipe my eyes. “Oh good morning kiddo! Sorry if I woke you up. I didn’t make breakfast, sorry.” He comes around to give me a hug and a kiss on the crown of my head. “I just wanted to see you before you left. Did you leave any coffee?” I asked, a mix of hope and desperation in my voice. I need caffeine desperately. “Yeah I’ve only had one cup. I heard you last night, so I made a full pot. Did you get any rest?” The concern in his v
~ Brady ~ Mom has dinner ready by the time we arrive upstairs. She loves to cook, but if she’s busy she lets the omegas in the kitchen bring something up for us. She tells me all the time that a luna must be willing to do anything that she would ask someone else to do. I hope my luna will be as amazing as her. “Ew you two stink. Go shower off while I finish setting the table.” She scrunches up her nose as she fixes the tablecloth. We both hit the showers and come back a few minutes later to an absolute feast. Mom really outdid herself: pork chops, potatoes, green beans, corn, rolls, the whole nine yards. “Dessert should be ready by the time we finish eating,” she says as she walks over to set an alarm on the stove just in case. “It looks delicious Maci,” Dad says before giving her a kiss and pulling out her chair. “Thank you dear. Now fix your plates. We have a lot to discuss this evening.” Mom commands a room almost better than Dad does. We sit down and fix our plate
~Brady~I’m pretty sure my jaw dropped in shock. How would that even be possible? “Dad they would be able to communicate through the pack link or fight back at least. There’s no way he is trafficking wolves.” I’m trying to logically think despite my dad never spreading gossip. He doesn’t make accusations without evidence. “They take the girls before they’re 18 and get their wolves. Apparently Walt has been telling them that someone senses that they are going to be their mate or promise them a position as a luna or another high ranking mate.” “So what did they promise the girl that came here?” I asked. If it’s true, we might have earned the wrath of multiple packs. “Don’t know. She told her cousin that Walt found her mate and that he would pick her up within the week.” He almost looks like he’s in pain. Dad watched his mom be tortured once when the pack was attacked while Pops was away. He was only 5, but it made a lasting impact on him. He’s been a fierce protector of our she-wolv
~Lindsey~ We ate our dinner in near silence. After the episode I just had, the shock was still wearing off. My stomach was tied in knots as my mind replayed my dream over and over again. Those three words haunted my soul. “You’re all mine.” I’d rather die than be his, which may be my fate if he ever finds me. Dad had to go into work tomorrow to fill out some paperwork for his new job, so I’d be home alone again. This time, however, I’d do whatever it takes to stay awake. No dreams. No nightmares. I’m already tempted to stay up all night tonight. The thought of that black hair and those piercing grey eyes cutting into my very soul and trying to carve me into someone smaller, more obedient, more docile, shakes me to my core. May I never see that bastard again for as long as I live. And please let the moon goddess not be so cruel as to choose him as my mate. “Lin, do you need to talk about your dream? You’ve barely touched your food, which tells me you’re worried about someth
~Lindsey~ I hear the front door open. “Dad is that you?” No response. “Dad?” I call out again. I slowly make my way around the wall that blocks the view from the kitchen to the front door. It’s wide open. “Dad?!” I call again, panic beginning to enter my voice. A hand covers my mouth while another wraps around my waist. “Did you really think you could escape me?” a cruel, familiar voice whispers in my ear. “I’ve already taken care of your dad. Now you have no one. You belong to me.” I struggle as much as possible to no avail. He’s strong, much stronger than me. I twist, turn, wiggle. I try to bite him, kick him, pinch him. Nothing works. I continue my struggle, only to hear a sinister chuckle escape his lips. “Struggle all you want. You’re all mine Lindsey.” “No! NO!!!” I yell, continuing to fight against him. I scream with all my might. Suddenly I sit straight up, panting, looking into my father’s eyes. “Lindsey? Oh thank the goddess you’re ok!” Dad crash
~Brady~ Dad and I head back for the end of training. We all usually go for a run and let our wolves have a moment to bond. Everyone has started to gather outside, just a few stragglers finishing up their matches. “Come. I want you to meet our newest pack member. He arrived last night.“ Dad says through the mindlink. What the hell? He just drops that information on me like it’s nothing. Guess it’s time to play dumb. “Why did he join our pack? Where’s he from?” I ask immediately. No need to beat around the bush if I’m going to get information this easily. “White Fang. Some pack drama had been going on. He needed to get out, and we can always use more doctors. He asked for a quiet entry. Kinda wants to fly under the radar from what I hear. They want to have a fresh start.” “They?” “Yeah. He’s got a daughter about your age. Pretty little thing. Seemed kinda shy. I’ll expect you and the boys to be on your best behavior. She could probably use a friend. Sounds like she ma
