~Brady~

I’m going to kill these two idiots.

We come in the gym at 5 to see our dads and Alex, one of our head warriors, standing at the front. They rarely all show up at the same shifter training. Usually they divide up between the early session and the late session, which starts at 8pm. No need for all the leaders in the pack to be in one place at one time.

“Welcome to training!” Dad shouts over the assembled wolves. “This afternoon I think we’ll mix it up. Let’s do some sparring. We’ve come up with some fair matches that should challenge everyone. Once you find your opponent, find an area in the gym or courtyard to spare. Remember, no cheap shots. We don’t need anyone with serious injuries.”

He starts calling off names. One by one they shifted and got to work. I noticed Grant, Colton, and I weren’t being chosen.

“Maybe they forgot about it. We got off the hook!” Grant chirped through the mind link.

“Don’t bet your sweet ass on it.” I’m staring at my dad. He’s got a half smirk on his face, and nothing is funny so far.

He calls the last of the pack members, leaving us three, head warrior Alex, and our dads. Shit.

“Alright. Last three pairs. Grant and Gamma Thomas, Colton and Beta David, and you’re stuck with me, Bray.” There’s the reason for the smirk. Man are we in for it now.

I look over at Grant and Colton, who just turned a few shades paler. Realization must have finally kicked in. If I can move after this practice, I’m kicking both of their asses.

“Make sure I get a piece of the action. Kane and Ragnor need to learn to control their impulses.” Knight angrily remarks in my head.

“You got it bud. But first, we’ve got to deal with Dad.”

We all shift and find areas to spar. Dad and I end up heading outside to have some more room. Two large alpha wolves in one room is a bit much. Knight and Erik, my dad’s wolf, face each other on the front lawn of the gym. Dad mindlinks me the countdown, and we’re off.

I charge first, hoping the element of surprise is on my side. Big shock: it’s not. One benefit of sparring your dad is that you know his weak spots, but then again he knows yours too. I try to aim for his back left leg, but it doesn’t work. He’s spent years fighting and knows a strong defense is just as important as any blow you make on your opponent.

He goes for my ribs, but I manage to move enough that he hits my shoulder instead. I recover quickly even though it hurts like a bitch.

We keep at it for what feels like hours but actually was only about 30 minutes. I got a few licks in, but Dad is still the winner for sure. I’m left in pain, exhausted, and panting for air.

“Follow me. We need to talk.” I hear Dad through the mindlink after we’ve let our wolves rest for a bit.

He walks to the edge of the woods with me in tow. I notice he’s got a slight limp in his back left leg. A part of me feels guilty for hurting my dad; I know he probably feels the same. Thank the goddess we heal fast and should both be mostly recovered by dinner.

“Brady, I realize you didn’t have a hand in the incident last week, but you need to understand something. As alpha, everything those under you do reflects on you, good or bad. If you let the two people closest to you hit on other people’s mates and mistreat other pack members without reprimanding them yourself, people will doubt your character. You’re still a kid, but it’s time to grow up and be a man. In a few short years you’re expected to take over this pack, but if you don’t start earning their respect now, you won’t have it then. I believe you will be an excellent leader in this pack, but it’s time to let go of childish things.”

His words hit deep. I haven’t ever really thought about how I don’t hold Grant and Colton to higher standards; they’re going to be my right hands in a few years. We all have to start stepping up. No more fucking around.

“I’m sorry, Dad. I guess I never thought about that. I can’t promise it’ll be solved tomorrow, but I promise it will be better. I’ll talk to them about it. We have to continue the legacy and make it stronger.”

“I’m not saying you can’t live a little. Have fun while you still can, but the three of you definitely need to treat the single she wolves with more respect. They aren’t just notches in your bedpost, and they sure as hell aren’t toys to be played with. They’re living creatures that deserve to be treated with dignity. Do I make myself clear?”

“Yes Dad. We will do better. And we will earn the respect of the pack. I saw that girl’s mate at school today and apologized. He was still pissed, but I think it will pass with time.”

Dad’s wolf lets out a huff that almost sounds like a laugh. “Just wait, son. One day you’ll have a mate, and you’ll want to rip out someone’s throat just for looking at her, much less touching her. Then you’ll understand why he was ready to go to war.”

Something inside me shifts when he says that. It feels possessive, almost like a madness waiting to be released. Mates? I’ve never worried about mates before. So why is my stomach in knots?

~ Lindsey ~ Sunlight peeks through my window, waking me up. I must have finally dozed off sometime last night. I tossed and turned for what felt like hours. Dad saw right through me last night and refused to let me stay up watching TV, knowing I was planning an all nighter. The little sleep that I did get l did not include any more nightmares. I guess I should count that as a blessing. I head out of the bedroom and see Dad in khaki dress pants, brown dress shoes, a white button up, and a blue tie. “You look nice,” I tell Dad sleepily, as I wipe my eyes. “Oh good morning kiddo! Sorry if I woke you up. I didn’t make breakfast, sorry.” He comes around to give me a hug and a kiss on the crown of my head. “I just wanted to see you before you left. Did you leave any coffee?” I asked, a mix of hope and desperation in my voice. I need caffeine desperately. “Yeah I’ve only had one cup. I heard you last night, so I made a full pot. Did you get any rest?” The concern in his v

~ Brady ~ Mom has dinner ready by the time we arrive upstairs. She loves to cook, but if she’s busy she lets the omegas in the kitchen bring something up for us. She tells me all the time that a luna must be willing to do anything that she would ask someone else to do. I hope my luna will be as amazing as her. “Ew you two stink. Go shower off while I finish setting the table.” She scrunches up her nose as she fixes the tablecloth. We both hit the showers and come back a few minutes later to an absolute feast. Mom really outdid herself: pork chops, potatoes, green beans, corn, rolls, the whole nine yards. “Dessert should be ready by the time we finish eating,” she says as she walks over to set an alarm on the stove just in case. “It looks delicious Maci,” Dad says before giving her a kiss and pulling out her chair. “Thank you dear. Now fix your plates. We have a lot to discuss this evening.” Mom commands a room almost better than Dad does. We sit down and fix our plate

~Brady~I’m pretty sure my jaw dropped in shock. How would that even be possible? “Dad they would be able to communicate through the pack link or fight back at least. There’s no way he is trafficking wolves.” I’m trying to logically think despite my dad never spreading gossip. He doesn’t make accusations without evidence. “They take the girls before they’re 18 and get their wolves. Apparently Walt has been telling them that someone senses that they are going to be their mate or promise them a position as a luna or another high ranking mate.” “So what did they promise the girl that came here?” I asked. If it’s true, we might have earned the wrath of multiple packs. “Don’t know. She told her cousin that Walt found her mate and that he would pick her up within the week.” He almost looks like he’s in pain. Dad watched his mom be tortured once when the pack was attacked while Pops was away. He was only 5, but it made a lasting impact on him. He’s been a fierce protector of our she-wolv

~Lindsey~ We ate our dinner in near silence. After the episode I just had, the shock was still wearing off. My stomach was tied in knots as my mind replayed my dream over and over again. Those three words haunted my soul. “You’re all mine.” I’d rather die than be his, which may be my fate if he ever finds me. Dad had to go into work tomorrow to fill out some paperwork for his new job, so I’d be home alone again. This time, however, I’d do whatever it takes to stay awake. No dreams. No nightmares. I’m already tempted to stay up all night tonight. The thought of that black hair and those piercing grey eyes cutting into my very soul and trying to carve me into someone smaller, more obedient, more docile, shakes me to my core. May I never see that bastard again for as long as I live. And please let the moon goddess not be so cruel as to choose him as my mate. “Lin, do you need to talk about your dream? You’ve barely touched your food, which tells me you’re worried about someth

~Lindsey~ I hear the front door open. “Dad is that you?” No response. “Dad?” I call out again. I slowly make my way around the wall that blocks the view from the kitchen to the front door. It’s wide open. “Dad?!” I call again, panic beginning to enter my voice. A hand covers my mouth while another wraps around my waist. “Did you really think you could escape me?” a cruel, familiar voice whispers in my ear. “I’ve already taken care of your dad. Now you have no one. You belong to me.” I struggle as much as possible to no avail. He’s strong, much stronger than me. I twist, turn, wiggle. I try to bite him, kick him, pinch him. Nothing works. I continue my struggle, only to hear a sinister chuckle escape his lips. “Struggle all you want. You’re all mine Lindsey.” “No! NO!!!” I yell, continuing to fight against him. I scream with all my might. Suddenly I sit straight up, panting, looking into my father’s eyes. “Lindsey? Oh thank the goddess you’re ok!” Dad crash

~Brady~ Dad and I head back for the end of training. We all usually go for a run and let our wolves have a moment to bond. Everyone has started to gather outside, just a few stragglers finishing up their matches. “Come. I want you to meet our newest pack member. He arrived last night.“ Dad says through the mindlink. What the hell? He just drops that information on me like it’s nothing. Guess it’s time to play dumb. “Why did he join our pack? Where’s he from?” I ask immediately. No need to beat around the bush if I’m going to get information this easily. “White Fang. Some pack drama had been going on. He needed to get out, and we can always use more doctors. He asked for a quiet entry. Kinda wants to fly under the radar from what I hear. They want to have a fresh start.” “They?” “Yeah. He’s got a daughter about your age. Pretty little thing. Seemed kinda shy. I’ll expect you and the boys to be on your best behavior. She could probably use a friend. Sounds like she ma
