~Lindsey~

After shopping we take a quick grocery run to pick up some fresh fruit, vegetables, and meat. There were basic essentials and shelf stable items already in the house, but Dad believes in cooking healthy meals. Probably the doctor in him feels a little hypocritical telling others to do the same if he doesn’t.

We decide to take the scenic route home to scout out where everything is. I know Dad can mindlink anyone in the pack if he needs something, so I know it’s mostly for my benefit. The radio plays in the background as we check out shops, neighborhoods, and restaurants.

I get the oddest sensation when we pass the school and the pack gym, which are barely a mile apart. It almost feels like I’ve been wrapped in a warm hug. I look back at Dad, but he’s deep in thought. It happens again when we pass the pack house. I can’t help but wonder why; maybe once Dad became part of the pack, I started to feel more at home.

“Lindsey, I’m sorry, but I have mandatory training at 5 today. Our new gamma just mindlinked me to make sure I report. They take training very seriously in this pack.”

“You’re gonna get your butt kicked then. I hope you have plenty of first aid at home, Doc,” I joke. Dad maybe trained once or twice a week. Too busy picking up extra shifts.

“Any chance they’ll let a bratty teenage girl join?” I ask, probably with a little too much hope in my voice. Honestly I’m a little nervous about him leaving me so soon. I was one of the best teen female fighters in my old pack, but I’m still not as strong as an adult obviously.

“No. Not in the afternoon training. Shifters only. Your training will be in the mornings. You’ll start going on Thursday when you start school.”

“Ah man. I was hoping to play hookie for at least the whole week!” I flash Dad a mischievous grin before I look back out the windshield.

Dad rolls his eyes and smirks. “I will have my phone on me. It’s also not too far so if anything happens just yell. Ace hears better than me anyway.”

Dad’s wolf Ace has always been super protective of me. It only got worse after the rogue attack that killed Mom. Knowing he will be able to hear me roughly a mile away sets me at ease. I let out a small sigh, grateful that I’ll still be safe.

“You want me to cook dinner?” I offer. Cooking brings me peace and probably will keep my mind off being alone in a strange place.

“Sure kiddo! What’s on the menu?”

I give it some thought. Nothing too complicated. “Chicken broccoli pasta sound good?”

“Sounds great. As long as you don’t burn it,” Dad says with a wink.

I roll my eyes. “Haha very funny. Geez. I burn dinner one time, and you hold it over my head forever. You ever gonna let it go?”

“Not as long as I live.”

Dad reached over to rustle my hair like I’m five, and I try to dodge his hand. He knows I hate my hair messed up but still loves messing with me. He ends up putting his hand around the back of my head rest, while I try to fix my hair.

We get home and find Mr. Matt packing up his truck.

“Got everything set up and ready to go for ya, John!” he shouts to Dad.

“Matt, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you working us in and getting everything done so quickly,” Dad extends a hand to Mr. Matt, which he shakes.

“No problem. Anything for our newest pack members. Happy to help. Instructions for how to set it up are on the kitchen table. I locked the door already. Didn’t know what time you would be back.”

“Thanks. Glad we got to see you and thank you before you headed out,” Dad replies.

“See you at training later. Don’t be late. Alpha doesn’t believe in tardiness.”

“Thanks for the tip. See ya!”

Mr. Matt goes to leave but turns around when he gets to his truck. “Oh, Lindsey! In case I don’t see you, I hope you have a good first day on Thursday! I’ll tell Callie to be on the lookout for you!”

I shout my thanks and wave as he pulls out of the driveway. Then, Dad and I get busy unloading the car. By the time everything has been put in its place, we’re both worn out and crash on the couch. I check my new phone: it’s already 3. We watch a little TV before Dad goes to pack a bag for training. At a quarter til 5, he walks out the door and shifts. I give Ace a scratch behind the ear and hand him his bag before he heads out.

Once he’s gone, I lock the door and head to the kitchen. I quickly find the instructions for how to view the security cameras from my phone and d******d the app. After I get everything pulled up, I start dinner, jumping every time I hear the house creak or any other random sound.

  • The Alpha’s Mysterious Luna    14

~ Lindsey ~ Sunlight peeks through my window, waking me up. I must have finally dozed off sometime last night. I tossed and turned for what felt like hours. Dad saw right through me last night and refused to let me stay up watching TV, knowing I was planning an all nighter. The little sleep that I did get l did not include any more nightmares. I guess I should count that as a blessing. I head out of the bedroom and see Dad in khaki dress pants, brown dress shoes, a white button up, and a blue tie. “You look nice,” I tell Dad sleepily, as I wipe my eyes. “Oh good morning kiddo! Sorry if I woke you up. I didn’t make breakfast, sorry.” He comes around to give me a hug and a kiss on the crown of my head. “I just wanted to see you before you left. Did you leave any coffee?” I asked, a mix of hope and desperation in my voice. I need caffeine desperately. “Yeah I’ve only had one cup. I heard you last night, so I made a full pot. Did you get any rest?” The concern in his v

  • The Alpha’s Mysterious Luna    13

~ Brady ~ Mom has dinner ready by the time we arrive upstairs. She loves to cook, but if she’s busy she lets the omegas in the kitchen bring something up for us. She tells me all the time that a luna must be willing to do anything that she would ask someone else to do. I hope my luna will be as amazing as her. “Ew you two stink. Go shower off while I finish setting the table.” She scrunches up her nose as she fixes the tablecloth. We both hit the showers and come back a few minutes later to an absolute feast. Mom really outdid herself: pork chops, potatoes, green beans, corn, rolls, the whole nine yards. “Dessert should be ready by the time we finish eating,” she says as she walks over to set an alarm on the stove just in case. “It looks delicious Maci,” Dad says before giving her a kiss and pulling out her chair. “Thank you dear. Now fix your plates. We have a lot to discuss this evening.” Mom commands a room almost better than Dad does. We sit down and fix our plate

~Brady~I’m pretty sure my jaw dropped in shock. How would that even be possible? “Dad they would be able to communicate through the pack link or fight back at least. There’s no way he is trafficking wolves.” I’m trying to logically think despite my dad never spreading gossip. He doesn’t make accusations without evidence. “They take the girls before they’re 18 and get their wolves. Apparently Walt has been telling them that someone senses that they are going to be their mate or promise them a position as a luna or another high ranking mate.” “So what did they promise the girl that came here?” I asked. If it’s true, we might have earned the wrath of multiple packs. “Don’t know. She told her cousin that Walt found her mate and that he would pick her up within the week.” He almost looks like he’s in pain. Dad watched his mom be tortured once when the pack was attacked while Pops was away. He was only 5, but it made a lasting impact on him. He’s been a fierce protector of our she-wolv

~Lindsey~ We ate our dinner in near silence. After the episode I just had, the shock was still wearing off. My stomach was tied in knots as my mind replayed my dream over and over again. Those three words haunted my soul. “You’re all mine.” I’d rather die than be his, which may be my fate if he ever finds me. Dad had to go into work tomorrow to fill out some paperwork for his new job, so I’d be home alone again. This time, however, I’d do whatever it takes to stay awake. No dreams. No nightmares. I’m already tempted to stay up all night tonight. The thought of that black hair and those piercing grey eyes cutting into my very soul and trying to carve me into someone smaller, more obedient, more docile, shakes me to my core. May I never see that bastard again for as long as I live. And please let the moon goddess not be so cruel as to choose him as my mate. “Lin, do you need to talk about your dream? You’ve barely touched your food, which tells me you’re worried about someth

~Lindsey~ I hear the front door open. “Dad is that you?” No response. “Dad?” I call out again. I slowly make my way around the wall that blocks the view from the kitchen to the front door. It’s wide open. “Dad?!” I call again, panic beginning to enter my voice. A hand covers my mouth while another wraps around my waist. “Did you really think you could escape me?” a cruel, familiar voice whispers in my ear. “I’ve already taken care of your dad. Now you have no one. You belong to me.” I struggle as much as possible to no avail. He’s strong, much stronger than me. I twist, turn, wiggle. I try to bite him, kick him, pinch him. Nothing works. I continue my struggle, only to hear a sinister chuckle escape his lips. “Struggle all you want. You’re all mine Lindsey.” “No! NO!!!” I yell, continuing to fight against him. I scream with all my might. Suddenly I sit straight up, panting, looking into my father’s eyes. “Lindsey? Oh thank the goddess you’re ok!” Dad crash

  • The Alpha’s Mysterious Luna    9

~Brady~ Dad and I head back for the end of training. We all usually go for a run and let our wolves have a moment to bond. Everyone has started to gather outside, just a few stragglers finishing up their matches. “Come. I want you to meet our newest pack member. He arrived last night.“ Dad says through the mindlink. What the hell? He just drops that information on me like it’s nothing. Guess it’s time to play dumb. “Why did he join our pack? Where’s he from?” I ask immediately. No need to beat around the bush if I’m going to get information this easily. “White Fang. Some pack drama had been going on. He needed to get out, and we can always use more doctors. He asked for a quiet entry. Kinda wants to fly under the radar from what I hear. They want to have a fresh start.” “They?” “Yeah. He’s got a daughter about your age. Pretty little thing. Seemed kinda shy. I’ll expect you and the boys to be on your best behavior. She could probably use a friend. Sounds like she ma
