~Brady~

Dad and I head back for the end of training. We all usually go for a run and let our wolves have a moment to bond. Everyone has started to gather outside, just a few stragglers finishing up their matches.

“Come. I want you to meet our newest pack member. He arrived last night.“ Dad says through the mindlink.

What the hell? He just drops that information on me like it’s nothing. Guess it’s time to play dumb.

“Why did he join our pack? Where’s he from?” I ask immediately. No need to beat around the bush if I’m going to get information this easily.

“White Fang. Some pack drama had been going on. He needed to get out, and we can always use more doctors. He asked for a quiet entry. Kinda wants to fly under the radar from what I hear. They want to have a fresh start.”

“They?”

“Yeah. He’s got a daughter about your age. Pretty little thing. Seemed kinda shy. I’ll expect you and the boys to be on your best behavior. She could probably use a friend. Sounds like she may have been bullied in her old pack.”

Geez. Now I feel like a jerk for prodding Dad for information. She wolves can be brutal. If this girl was bullied, she may be an easy target for girls like Jacqueline. I feel like, for some reason, she might need my protection, especially if something happened that was bad enough to abandon her pack.

We walk up to this large brown wolf. Interesting. Brown wolves typically have beta blood. Knight confirms my suspicion.

“He seems very strong for a healer. A natural fighter. Ace seems very capable and brave. I have respect for him.” Knight tells me.

It’s so weird how wolves can pick up on things the human side can’t. The guy seems nice enough, but I haven’t even said hello.

“John, this is my son and heir, Brady. I wanted the two of you to meet. Thought it best before the dinner on Friday.”

I look at Dad with a question in my eye. Every now and then Dad will throw a party at the packhouse, and everyone will hang out and bond with each other. Must be one Friday that I forgot about. I’ll have to check my phone after we shift back.

“Nice to meet you Brady! I understand you got your wolf recently. Young wolves can be a bit rambunctious starting out. Should you get injured, come see me. I’ll be glad to help you out. I mostly worked with emergencies and surgeries in my old pack.”

“Thanks to you I didn’t have to make a 12 year old my gamma. I don’t think I can ever repay you for helping several of our warriors a few years ago.”

So this is the guy that patched up Tom. He might prove to be an asset to the pack.

Uncle Dave, Tom, and the two idiots come over. They’ve got their tails tucked which means they either got the shit beat out of them or a lecture about how stupid they are. I imagine they’ve been linked in on the conversation this entire time.

“We can all catch up later. Looks like everyone is here.” Dad opens the mindlink to the entire group. “Good work today everyone. Let’s finish out with a run. Take it easy if you have injuries,” he makes a side eye at Colton and Grant.

Dad leads the pack, with me and the team following close behind. We run for a few miles, mostly in silence, and end up back at the gym. Everyone starts shifting and getting decent again.

“Shit Brady. Your dad got you good.” Colton nods toward my ribs. I’ve got a large bruise along with a few scrapes here and there. Not too worse for wear all things considered. Especially when I see Colton and Grant.

I thought I was going to piss myself laughing. Looks like their dads both took a few bites out of them. Both shoulders, both legs.

“Yeah yeah. Shut up. They double teamed us when we didn’t expect it.” Colton rolls his eyes.

“Definitely had it planned. How the hell did you only come out with a bruise?” Grant looks at me with slight outrage.

“I’m only in trouble for not making sure you two idiots behaved yourselves. Just be glad I’m too tired to beat the shit out of you myself.” My irritation starts to return.

“Boys! Time to go.” Uncle Dave yells. Our dads are all ganged up with smirks on their faces. I can tell they all find this amusing. Now I’m in a foul mood in general.

When I walk up to Dad, I smell it again. That flowery smell that makes me feel calm and tingly all at the same time. It creeps me out a little. I look around to see if I can find it.

“What’s wrong Brady?” Dad asks nervously.

“Nothing. Just smelled something.” I reply quickly.

“I’m surprised you can smell anything but BO. No wonder no one has claimed you three as mates.” Tom says. I know he’s only half joking. I’m sure we all smell horrible after the workout we had today.

“See you guys tomorrow. Keep me posted.” Dad says as we get into the truck.

“Keep you posted on what?” I ask as he cranks the car.

“I’m telling you this because you’re the future alpha of this pack. I fully expect you to tell Colton and Grant, but it goes no further.” Dad says, not making eye contact and looking down.

“Dad what is going on?” Now I’m uneasy. What could possibly be bothering him that has to be so secretive?

“John is the brother of the White Fang Beta. He’s worried about retaliation against them coming here. We spotted several White Fang trackers near our shared border. We suspect they aren’t happy with their departure.”

“Why? People move packs all the time. If they weren’t happy, what’s the big deal?”

“I suspect Lindsey has caught the attention of someone important. John’s brother and nephew got them out just in the nick of time.”

“Nick of time? I don’t understand.”

“They had plans to abduct her today. Apparently White Fang has been trafficking wolves to the highest bidder.”

~ Lindsey ~ Sunlight peeks through my window, waking me up. I must have finally dozed off sometime last night. I tossed and turned for what felt like hours. Dad saw right through me last night and refused to let me stay up watching TV, knowing I was planning an all nighter. The little sleep that I did get l did not include any more nightmares. I guess I should count that as a blessing. I head out of the bedroom and see Dad in khaki dress pants, brown dress shoes, a white button up, and a blue tie. “You look nice,” I tell Dad sleepily, as I wipe my eyes. “Oh good morning kiddo! Sorry if I woke you up. I didn’t make breakfast, sorry.” He comes around to give me a hug and a kiss on the crown of my head. “I just wanted to see you before you left. Did you leave any coffee?” I asked, a mix of hope and desperation in my voice. I need caffeine desperately. “Yeah I’ve only had one cup. I heard you last night, so I made a full pot. Did you get any rest?” The concern in his v

~ Brady ~ Mom has dinner ready by the time we arrive upstairs. She loves to cook, but if she’s busy she lets the omegas in the kitchen bring something up for us. She tells me all the time that a luna must be willing to do anything that she would ask someone else to do. I hope my luna will be as amazing as her. “Ew you two stink. Go shower off while I finish setting the table.” She scrunches up her nose as she fixes the tablecloth. We both hit the showers and come back a few minutes later to an absolute feast. Mom really outdid herself: pork chops, potatoes, green beans, corn, rolls, the whole nine yards. “Dessert should be ready by the time we finish eating,” she says as she walks over to set an alarm on the stove just in case. “It looks delicious Maci,” Dad says before giving her a kiss and pulling out her chair. “Thank you dear. Now fix your plates. We have a lot to discuss this evening.” Mom commands a room almost better than Dad does. We sit down and fix our plate

~Brady~I’m pretty sure my jaw dropped in shock. How would that even be possible? “Dad they would be able to communicate through the pack link or fight back at least. There’s no way he is trafficking wolves.” I’m trying to logically think despite my dad never spreading gossip. He doesn’t make accusations without evidence. “They take the girls before they’re 18 and get their wolves. Apparently Walt has been telling them that someone senses that they are going to be their mate or promise them a position as a luna or another high ranking mate.” “So what did they promise the girl that came here?” I asked. If it’s true, we might have earned the wrath of multiple packs. “Don’t know. She told her cousin that Walt found her mate and that he would pick her up within the week.” He almost looks like he’s in pain. Dad watched his mom be tortured once when the pack was attacked while Pops was away. He was only 5, but it made a lasting impact on him. He’s been a fierce protector of our she-wolv

~Lindsey~ We ate our dinner in near silence. After the episode I just had, the shock was still wearing off. My stomach was tied in knots as my mind replayed my dream over and over again. Those three words haunted my soul. “You’re all mine.” I’d rather die than be his, which may be my fate if he ever finds me. Dad had to go into work tomorrow to fill out some paperwork for his new job, so I’d be home alone again. This time, however, I’d do whatever it takes to stay awake. No dreams. No nightmares. I’m already tempted to stay up all night tonight. The thought of that black hair and those piercing grey eyes cutting into my very soul and trying to carve me into someone smaller, more obedient, more docile, shakes me to my core. May I never see that bastard again for as long as I live. And please let the moon goddess not be so cruel as to choose him as my mate. “Lin, do you need to talk about your dream? You’ve barely touched your food, which tells me you’re worried about someth

~Lindsey~ I hear the front door open. “Dad is that you?” No response. “Dad?” I call out again. I slowly make my way around the wall that blocks the view from the kitchen to the front door. It’s wide open. “Dad?!” I call again, panic beginning to enter my voice. A hand covers my mouth while another wraps around my waist. “Did you really think you could escape me?” a cruel, familiar voice whispers in my ear. “I’ve already taken care of your dad. Now you have no one. You belong to me.” I struggle as much as possible to no avail. He’s strong, much stronger than me. I twist, turn, wiggle. I try to bite him, kick him, pinch him. Nothing works. I continue my struggle, only to hear a sinister chuckle escape his lips. “Struggle all you want. You’re all mine Lindsey.” “No! NO!!!” I yell, continuing to fight against him. I scream with all my might. Suddenly I sit straight up, panting, looking into my father’s eyes. “Lindsey? Oh thank the goddess you’re ok!” Dad crash
