Modric’s POV

I was out of the bed before I finished reading the message.

The cold floor met my feet, but I barely noticed it. I reached for my trousers, pulled them on, and grabbed my shirt from the chair near the fireplace.

Behind me, Velvera stirred beneath the blankets.

“What happened?”

I did not answer immediately.

My eyes remained on Kylian’s message.

Return immediately. Mary Ann has developed a high fever after the rogue attack. Elara believes it may be connected to the wound.

  • The Alpha’s Plus Size Obession   Chapter 70

Mary Ann’s POVMy mother’s question struck harder than I expected.“Is there another woman?”For several seconds, I could not speak. The healing garden remained quiet around us. Water moved through the narrow stone channels, and a light breeze touched the white flowers climbing the wall. Everything looked peaceful, but my chest had tightened so sharply that breathing felt difficult.I turned away from my mother.“No.”The answer came too quickly. She noticed.Luna Sterling had spent my entire life recognizing every lie before I finished speaking. As a child, I could not hide stolen pastries, unfinished lessons, or secret tears from her. Becoming Luna had taught me how to control my expression before elders and strangers. It had not taught me how to deceive my mother. She stepped closer.“Mary Ann.”“There is no other woman.”“You did not look at me when you said that.”“I am looking at the plants.”“The plants did not ask you a question.”I closed my eyes briefly. My mother reached fo

  • The Alpha’s Plus Size Obession   Chapter 69

Mary Ann’s POVThe journey to Mooncrest began before sunrise.Modric insisted we travel in the same vehicle. He called it a security decision. After the ambush, no one argued with him when he doubled the guards, changed the route twice, and ordered patrol wolves to run ahead of the convoy. Kylian remained in Ironclaw to manage the council while Marek led the first group of warriors.I sat beside Modric in the rear of the largest vehicle, close enough that our shoulders brushed whenever the road became uneven.Neither of us spoke for the first hour. The silence was not peaceful. It was filled with everything we had refused to discuss. The returned ring rested on my finger. Modric had noticed it at breakfast, and although he had said nothing, relief had moved through the bond.I had felt it.That was the problem with the mate bond. It revealed moments he would never admit aloud. Fear when I was in danger. Anger when another man touched me. Relief when I wore his ring. Then he would spea

  • The Alpha’s Plus Size Obession   Chapter 68

Mary Ann’s POVThe first thing I noticed when I woke was the ring.It rested on the bedside table beside my hand, silver catching the pale morning light. The joined symbols of Mooncrest and Ironclaw faced upward, exactly as they had on the day Modric placed it on my finger before two packs. For several seconds, I stared at it.There was no note.No explanation.Nothing to show why Modric had entered my room while I slept or why he had returned the ring after leaving with it in his pocket.I sat up slowly. The door remained locked from the inside. At least, I remembered locking it.That meant he had used the Alpha’s key.The thought should have made me angry. Instead, a strange ache formed beneath my ribs as I imagined him standing beside the bed in the darkness, holding the ring he had been so furious to receive.Had he considered putting it back on my finger?Had he wanted to explain why he cared?Or had he simply remembered that breakfast, meetings, and public appearances required t

  • The Alpha’s Plus Size Obession   Chapter 67

Modric’s POVVelvera knew something was wrong the moment she opened the door.I had barely stepped into the cottage before her eyes moved over my face, my clenched jaw, and the hand I kept buried inside my coat pocket.“What happened?”“Nothing.”She closed the door behind me.“You only come here looking like that when something happened with Mary Ann.”My wolf stirred at the sound of her name.I removed my coat and placed it over the back of a chair. The ring remained inside my pocket, its hard edge pressing against my palm through the fabric.Velvera watched the movement.“Did she accuse you of something?”“No.”“Did you argue?”“Yes.”Her expression sharpened with interest.“About what?”I walked toward the fireplace. The cottage was warm, but the cold from the road remained beneath my skin. I had driven too fast, trying to outrun the image of Mary Ann placing her wedding ring in my hand.Keep it until you remember what marriage is supposed to mean.I could still feel the weight of

  • The Alpha’s Plus Size Obession   Chapter 66

Modric’s POVI noticed her bare hand halfway through the council meeting.Mary Ann sat across from me with three reconstruction reports arranged neatly in front of her. She was explaining the supply delays along the western road, speaking calmly while Elder Gregor argued that Frostfang should cover the additional transport costs.I should have been listening.Instead, my eyes remained fixed on her left hand. The wedding ring was gone. For one second, I thought I had simply missed it. The silver band was narrow, marked with both Ironclaw and Mooncrest symbols. It could have been hidden by the way she held her pen. Then she reached for another document. Her fingers were completely bare.Something cold moved through my chest. The council room continued around me. Gregor complained. Kylian corrected one of the supply figures. My father asked whether the northern bridge repairs had begun.I heard none of it clearly.Mary Ann was not wearing her ring.My wolf pressed forward with sudden pan

  • The Alpha’s Plus Size Obession   Chapter 65

Mary Ann’s POVI could not stop looking at the scratches on Modric’s neck. They were not deep. Three thin red lines disappeared beneath the collar of his shirt, fresh enough that the skin around them was still slightly raised. They might have looked harmless to anyone else.To me, they confirmed every question he had refused to answer. The perfume on the blanket. The secret phone calls. The truck leaving the pack grounds after midnight. The way he returned near dawn, distracted and carrying the scent of a woman who did not live in the Alpha house.I had spent weeks telling myself there could be another explanation. Patrol duties. Private meetings. Pack security. Matters connected to Ironclaw that I had no right to question. But branches did not leave marks like that.Neither did council meetings.Modric noticed me staring. His hand rose toward his collar, covering the scratches too late.“What is it?”“Nothing.”My voice sounded calm. The answer made his expression harden.“You have b
