Why didn’t I see it? Why hadn’t I read the signs all this while? I would have been able to do something about it before it got to this point.

I should have known when Athena suddenly changed towards Greta. It started a day before her eighteenth birthday. She had been furious, she had yelled at Greta and warned her not to enter her room again, I didn’t understand it then but now I did. Greta never liked her, never truly considered her a friend.

“I can’t even imagine what you must be feeling right now.” I said to her, my fingers still wrapped up in hers. “You cared about her once, loved her even. Why did she choose to betray you?”

Her eyes darted away from mine. They were glassy and it was obvious she was trying to fight back tears.

“I have no idea what has gotten into her. Our friendship should have meant more to her, at least it meant a lot to me.”
