VELDANA'S POV

I slowly opened my eyelids and focused on the ceiling. For a second, I didn't realize where I was until the beeping sound of the monitor brought me back to reality.

I never knew when I slept off.

Stretching my legs, I sat upright, the notepad I had earlier scribbled on fell to the floor, and I picked them up immediately.

Scanning through what I had jotted, I realized I had just given an estimate for the cost of the surgery Leila was going to have. I didn't really know the cost.

  • The Alpha's Regret; Too Late To Claim Me   CHAPTER 146

Veldana’s POVThere have been moments in my life when I felt the shift of the earth. The turn in the very essence of my existence and this moment had to be one of them. The memories do not come in a flush like in the park. No, they did not want to be forgotten again, so they trickled in. As I walked up the steps to the court house, I remembered that over 10 years ago, I had done the same except my brother was in my ear and I was nervous about the decision I had made so I was trembling like a leaf. As I entered into the court room, I remembered where I had sat in a similar room waiting to be called on. As the lawyer and prosecutor defended their stands, I remembered the same events, albeit much more aggressive that occurred years ago and changed the trajectory of my life.As witnesses were called to the stand, I remembered when I was the witness. The key witness to a case that decided so many lives even though it was just one on trial. I remembered it all and my stomach started to ch

  • The Alpha's Regret; Too Late To Claim Me   CHAPTER 145

Veldana’s POVI could feel him tensing the moment the gates into the prison opened. It was not just his shoulders but his entire body going stiff as a board. As if that was not enough indication that prisons did something to him, the rhythm of his breathing changed and became more labored. I called out to him but he did not hear me. His gaze was fixed on the opening gate and nothing else. “Hey,” I called again putting my hands through his.He jolted a little before looking at me. “Are you okay?” I asked. His smile was forced as he replied, “Yeah, I’m good. I was just thinking of something. Let’s go.”The prison looked a little too nice to be a prison. The walls were cream colored and the floors were polished. “It’s so clean,” I commented.“Yeah. That’s what influential people get. They don’t want to get them mixed with the riff-raff. Let’s go,” he continued taking me along and I followed through the halls to the warden’s office.“Alpha, I am afraid we don’t have much time today. Mr.

  • The Alpha's Regret; Too Late To Claim Me   CHAPTER 144

Veldana’s POVI was so glad to close the door of the hospital room. I was really tired of the place, even though everybody was so nice. “You look so happy, people would think you were being mistreated.”“I don’t like hospitals. When Leila was born, I almost left against doctor’s advice if not that I was worried about her. And then we spent so long in hospitals after that…” I shivered at the memory.Maurice realized what I said earlier than I did so when he stopped, I looked at him quizzically while he returned my look with a pointed one until I realized. “I remember something else,” I confirmed.“That’s like what? Three today?” He wondered when he continued moving and I followed.“Four. I remember the day we met my parents,” I had not told him this because it was not a good memory and I did not want to kill our spirits. “Oh, that is an interesting one.”“I am sorry they treated you like that,” I didn’t know if I had apologized for their less than courteous behavior before but I felt

  • The Alpha's Regret; Too Late To Claim Me   CHAPTER 143

Maurice’s POVMy shoulders were tense to the point of being painful. They always were, every time I stepped into a prison. Prison made me who I am now, but it did not mean it did not take something from me. It was why I preferred to deal with my own people in my basement. I never wanted to be here again.“Alpha,” the warden called immediately he saw me and then came to me. “We have prepped him. He is waiting in the visiting station.”“Good. Wait here,” I told Greg and went ahead. Eldric was sitting with his hands handcuffed. It was a minimum security reform center so the only reason they handcuffed him was probably because I was coming. “What do you want?” Eldric asked the moment I sat down.“Oh, don’t worry. I am not here because I missed you.”“Then why are you here?” He asked me.“When you came to my house, you said you knew who had Leila kidnapped. Who is it?” I asked straight up. There was no point beating about the bush.“Now you want to know?” He scoffed. “Why? You want to pre

Maurice’s POVVeldana was back to ignoring me and it was all Eldric’s fault. As if I needed another reason to dislike the dude. “Is it good?” I asked Vel. I knew I was a good cook so it was just to stimulate conversation. She ignored me. “You cannot be seriously doing this to me because I don’t want to tell you where Eldric is.”Apparently, she could because she ate in silence then stood up and went back upstairs. Since my appetite was already gone too, I cleared the table and followed her up. She was fully dressed and putting her hair up when I came in. “I was thinking we should go get you some clothes after you get discharged. It’s getting cold and that jacket is thin,” I said and once again, she ignored me. Amazing. “How long do you plan on keeping this up?” I asked and she turned to me, looked me in the eye and fluffed her ponytail before turning on her heels and walking out the room.I would have laughed at how childish the move was if I was not so frustrated. Then I pulled out

  • The Alpha's Regret; Too Late To Claim Me   CHAPTER 141

Veldana’s POVI woke up to the darkness of the room and the warmth of a body at my back. It took me a second but I finally remembered where I was. Turning slowly and carefully, I faced Maurice who was still asleep. He looked so peaceful like this, I noted and leaned in with the intention of kissing him but I stopped myself just I time. First, I did not want to wake him, second, I did not want to be charged with sexual assault, and third, I still had a lot to figure out.I carefully removed the arm around my waist and after climbing out of bed, I tucked the blanket back around him then hunted for the bathroom. It was not hard to find since the room only had two other doors that were not the front door and one of it was open slightly so I could see that it was a closet. Whoa, his bathroom was large. I knew he was rich, that much was obvious but this had to be an exaggeration. I think there was a sauna off to the sides but I could not be sure because even though I could see all the eq
