VELDANA'S POV

I slowly opened my eyelids and focused on the ceiling. For a second, I didn't realize where I was until the beeping sound of the monitor brought me back to reality.

I never knew when I slept off.

Stretching my legs, I sat upright, the notepad I had earlier scribbled on fell to the floor, and I picked them up immediately.

Scanning through what I had jotted, I realized I had just given an estimate for the cost of the surgery Leila was going to have. I didn't really know the cost.

I glanced at my daughter, her body rose and fell in the rhythm of her breath. Her cheeks were red and puffy as her forehead creased.

Bringing my hands to her face, I soothed her forehead, and her face relaxed.

“Having a bad dream?” I mumbled quietly, still slowly soothing her forehead.

I planted a soft kiss on her forehead before adjusting the blanket properly over her shoulders.

The more I hesitate, the more I realize I didn't want to see my daughter in this position. Seeing her piped up to

Veldena POVI didn’t decide my next course of action, I mean, there was really no time left to do so, not with the aggrieved looks that greeted me.My body moved before my mind could think because in that room, with Eldric shaking, Maurice trembling, Hailey shrinking behind him, and a ring of wolves ready to attack I saw death forming in the air like smoke.Someone was about to die and I couldn’t lose anyone else, not after Freya and Leila’s kidnapping, especially not after the hours of fear, guilt, and running until my lungs felt like fire. The desperation inside me broke open, sharp and wild, it was the kind of desperation only a mother can understand. Eldric’s arm was steady, his finger tight on the trigger. His eyes were full of fire and grief, like he had burned himself hollow just to keep standing. Maurice stood between him and Hailey, trying to protect her even while doubt twisted his face.Hailey was pressed to the wall, trembling, too pale, too frightened, too guilty. Her

  • The Alpha's Regret; Too Late To Claim Me   CHAPTER 104

Veldena POVEldric’s hand moved with a calmness that terrified me more than any scream. He reached into his jacket slowly like he was tired already. When his hand came out, the gun was already pointed at Hailey. His expression didn’t shake, his breath didn’t tremble and his arm didn’t waver even a hair. This was my cue to know it was beyond rage and I needed to make a decision quickly. His stare was cold, deadly and the worst part was that he looked at Hailey the way a man looks at a problem he has already solved in his mind.Freya was dead, Leila was almost lost forever and Eldric had decided that Hailey was the link between both tragedies.“Eldric” I managed to breathe, but he didn’t hear me.He didn’t hear anything.Hailey let out a thin gasp and stepped backward with her hand flying to her mouth. She didn't look innocent or guilty but like one shrinking into herself. She was certainly terrified but Maurice moved first. He stepped in front of her fast, instinctive, almost protecti

  • The Alpha's Regret; Too Late To Claim Me   CHAPTER 103

Veldena’s POVMaurice stood up so suddenly his chair scraped the floor. The sharp sound cut through the tension, but it didn’t calm anything. It only made the air tighter. I had just stepped in, breathless, blood still on my clothes from the hospital, and all I saw were three people standing on the edge of a cliff.Maurice lifted his hands a little, trying to steady the moment.“Enough. Lets all breathe and Let’s talk”Eldric didn’t even look at him.His eyes were locked on Hailey with a hatred so sharp it felt like the walls could bleed from it.“Why did you take her?” he growled. “Why did you arrange Leila’s kidnapping?”Hailey’s lips pressed together. Her shoulders shook almost invisibly.“Who is Leila’s?”“Don’t lie to me.” Eldric thundered. “Leila was almost killed. Freya is dead because of this. And you” he pointed straight at her “you’re the only one with a reason to hurt my family.”Hailey flinched. Just once. Just enough for the room to feel it.I stepped forward, trying to p

  • The Alpha's Regret; Too Late To Claim Me   CHAPTER 102

Veldena’s POVI stood between them because there was no other place left to stand.Maurice on my left, Eldric on my right, both armed, both breathing hard, both ready to spill blood. Hailey was pressed against the wall behind Maurice, her face pale but her eyes cold and sharp. The air in Maurice’s living room felt thick, almost burning. The broken glass on the floor from Eldric’s forced entry glittered under the lights like pieces of a broken truth.I felt my palms shaking. My voice came out rough.“Stop. Both of you. Stop.”Neither man moved at first. Eldric’s hands were tight around the weapon, his jaw clenched, eyes red with fury and grief. Maurice held his own weapon like he didn’t even understand why this was happening, but he was ready to defend Hailey with his life simply because she stood behind him.I swallowed hard. My throat hurts. Every breath scratched.“Leila… has been found.”The words dropped into the room like stones. Eldric’s head snapped toward me. Maurice blinked.

  • The Alpha's Regret; Too Late To Claim Me   CHAPTER 101

Author’s POVThe night was deep and silent when Eldric reached Maurice’s house. The estate sat behind tall iron gates, guarded by thick trees and stone walls. Anyone else would have been stopped long before getting close. But Eldric had been the pack’s doctor for years. He knew every corner of the propertyevery patrol route, every blind spot, every door Maurice thought was secure. He didn’t waste time.He slipped through a small maintenance gate he used to access when treating injuries during Maurice’s rule. The security sensors there had never been updated. Eldric crossed the lawn fast, keeping to the shadows, moving with the precision of a man who had nothing left but purpose. He didn’t feel the rain soaking into his clothes. He didn’t feel the cold. Only fury.He reached the side entrance, typed in an old code, and the lock clicked open without resistance.Inside, the house was quiet. Too quiet. The hallways smelled of polished wood and old power. Eldric walked through them like a

  • The Alpha's Regret; Too Late To Claim Me   CHAPTER 100

Veldena’s POVI left the hospital without thinking. My legs moved before my mind caught the wind and tagged along. The glass doors slid open, and cold night air hit me like a slap but I didn’t stop, couldn’t breathe and run as I would have wanted to.My dress was still stained with Freya’s blood that had now clung to my skin, stiff in some places and cold in others. Every step made the dried fabric pull at me, as if the night wanted to remind me again and again of what I had lost but I kept going and didn’t care how I looked or who stared at me.Leila’s name rang aloud in my skull with every footstep I took.My chest burned, but I pushed harder. I needed to move. I needed to reach Eldric before he reached Maurice because if those two men stood in the same place, with anger in their hands and years of hate between them, there would be no talks of peace but violence.Eldric’s face flashed in my mind, especially the way his eyes had turned wild in the ruined office. The moment he saw
