MABEL'S POV

I kept running, legs quaking, as I kept turning back. My legs caught onto a stake. It slashed me.

“Argh,” I groaned, secured Kyra safely, stood up, and continued again.

Kyra groaned in my embrace, awoken by how fast I have been running and the sound of my ragged breathing. I slowed down, trying to stabilize my pounding heart.

I turned, no glowing eyes. It was like they had vanished into thin air, or perhaps they were never there, and it was all in my head.

But the growing unease inside me, the way the wind ceased as if something heavy was blocking it.

The chill of the night. I could tell I was being watched; it was no illusion, I was being toyed with.

“Mama …are we going home?” I heard my daughter's croaked voice, and my chest tightened.

I kissed her nervously, “Yes…yes, we are going home,” I answered, still straining my eyes. I was closer to a dense forest than I was closer to the capital now. Ahead were trees, packed together.

The sight in the dark was enough to send chills throughout my entire body.

It was the boundary between our pack and the next. I had heard it was thick, and weak wolves never made it past it.

Would I make it past it? Would I outrun the rogues?

I should have remained at the capital.

I should have waited until dawn, though I would be mocked and eaten. It was better than rogues.

I heard a growl erupt, and I gasped and sprinted forward. If I have to die in the forest, it would be better to try my luck than wait to be ripped limb from limb by these rogues.

I ran directly into the forest, slowed down as the leaves slapped me, and branches snapped under my legs.

Then suddenly I heard more branches snapping. My stomach knotted as dread settled in my chest.

They were close. They were already watching me.

I took another step, one snap, and I heard multiple all around me. Tears clouded my eyes as I hugged Kyra tighter.

I walked into a clearing. It was like a path in the forest, but I was surrounded by glowing eyes.

“Had enough fun running, little Luna?” A voice taunted.

They already knew who I used to be.

“Don't come any closer,” I threatened, picked up a fallen branch and pointed it at them, one after the other.

“Oh, Luna, don't be pathetic, we both know that wouldn't do you any good,” he said, his voice getting low and menacing with each sentence.

He came closer, and I backed away, but the one behind me also took a step forward.

I was trapped. They seemed to have had their fun watching me run.

“Didn't you hear what I said? I said don't come any closer!” I barked, hands tightening on the branch.

He didn't listen; instead, he reached to grab Kyra. I immediately lunged forward, wanting to slash the branch on his face, but the next second, a sharp punch landed on my nose, making me fall backwards.

My ankles twisted. I yelled and fell to the floor, using my body to cover Kyra.

Her breathing had changed now. She was coughing vigorously.

“Shush now….mama … is here, we would be fine, I promise,” I whispered when I felt warm liquid slide out of my nostrils, and my ankles were aching.

“Tell me, Luna, why did you leave your home for ours?”

“I. Am. Not. Your. Luna. Shut up!” I barked, tears streaming down my cheeks.

The next second, he grabbed me. I thrashed hard, in a desperate attempt to keep Kyra safe.

“Ma…ma,” she cried, and I thrashed harder.

“Shut up?” He questioned, coldness in his voice. He sounded like he had lost it.

Up close, he was half transformed, his ears elongated. He looked dangerous and reeked of blood.

“Kill the child,” he dropped, then twisted my face to watch as one of the other rogues stepped forward.

“No, no!! Let go of her! Don't you dare touch her!” I thrashed hard, throwing my fists and kicking hard, but he only slapped me hard across the face until my cheeks burned red, then he flung me away.

I tried to hold myself steady, but I could only grip the air and nothing else, as my back hit a tree.

Pain exploded throughout my body, and in that instant, I felt weakness through my bones, my back aching, as my eyes slowly lidded. I watched as they grabbed my daughter, ready to kill her.

Tears streamed down my cheeks as I watched.

“Please …” I muttered, but none of them heard it. They didn't care.

I tried to crawl, reaching for whatever strength I had in me. To the weak wolf in me that has refused to answer since then.

“Please …”

In that instant, an arrow sliced through the air and pierced the rogue holding my child.

Kyra slid from his arms as he fell to the ground with a thud.

“Ambush!” I heard a growl.

More arrows rained from the darkness, and then growls erupted.

Bones snapped. Chaos descended.

I had fast-paced footsteps towards me.

“Young mistress …young mistress..”

The words were sounding distant, but I tried hard not to lose consciousness. My daughter was still there.

“My child …” I croaked. “Save .. Kyra …my daughter …please,” I begged again, as I lifted my gaze to look at the one who came to me.

I couldn't make out his facial features, no matter how hard I strained to look.

Instead, my head throbbed harder, my lids grew heavier as I felt strength slowly leave me.

“Over here! Get the healer!” I heard again. The sound overlapped with the voice of my daughter crying and the growls and slapping of skin.

Kyra …. I'm sorry. Mommy couldn't protect you.

“Young mistress….young mistress. Stay with me. Please, you can't die. I have been looking for you.”

  • The Alpha's Regret    CHAPTER 83: THE PAST THAT WON'T BE RESOLVED.

Mabel. It felt like something was pressing down at my chest just by his words. I snatched my wrist away from him. His hand remained suspended between us for a moment before his fingers slowly curled inward. He withdrew it to his side, his jaw tightening.“You really think you can keep me by your side?” I asked, my voice sounding a lot different than expected. Cold, emotionless. Something flashed on his face, but he didn't back down. “I know what I signed …” “And I know what I signed too.” “Then we both had conditions which we agreed to. I would respect your decisions, stay away from your path, support you, but you would treat me like your husband, Mabel!” His voice was raised, his gaze hard on me. I could see his muscles bulging, his hands clenching and unclenching beside him. But all of this reactions meant nothing to me. Instead, I let out low humourless laughter, pressure building behind my eyes. Treat him like my husband? “You really think you can do whatever you want now,

  • The Alpha's Regret    CHAPTER 82: THE WEDDING NIGHT.

MABEL. Finally, the wedding was over. Most of the guests had gone home except for the elders and some of the Alphas who stayed back. I rubbed my temples softly, trying to knock the bones in place. This was the consequence of giving off a plastic smile the entire time. I let out a soft groan, but then I couldn't forget the fact that I was standing in Kyran's room in a dress I still hadn't managed to peel off.My wolf hadn't calmed down since the ceremony. If anything, being this close to Kyran made her worse. Well, I was still sane, and none of the superstitious madness bullshit has happened since the necklace fell off. “You can rest assured, I didn't drink too much tonight,” Kyran finally spoke up. I lifted my gaze to him while maintaining a considerable distance between us. Who cared if he was drunk or not? If I slept in another room tonight, the staff would talk. It would spread wide and far. We remarried, but still stayed in separate rooms. That would come off wrong, and giv

KYRAN. I flung my eyes open, immediately hit by a cold so brutal it felt like it seeped into my bones. I breathed out, watching a cloud of white mist leave my mouth. I wanted to move my arms, but I couldn't feel them. Where was I? “You are awake,” a sharp voice rang out. I would recognise it even in my dreams. Mabel. I forced my body up, and that was when I noticed that I was in a tub filled with cold water up to the top. My body was submerged, my chest bare of clothing. I was only putting on a boxer. I craned my neck, hearing the crack with each turn. She was standing there, leaning on the door, her eyes cold as she stared at me.I was in my bathroom, and then a groan left my lips.Headache. The type that throbbed around the eyes, making me shut them and rub my forehead softly, before forcing my body out of the tub. The water moved, crashed onto the edge, with some spilling onto the marble floor. The coldness reduced, but my skin went totally numb. Just how long had I been subm

  • The Alpha's Regret    CHAPTER 80: HELP KYRAN

MABEL. I remained there, my heart pounding. I pressed my hands on the bed, then forced my body up, but his hands slid to the back of my neck, and he pulled me even closer, so that my body pressed against his. My hands tightened around the bed’s edge, my eyes fixated on his lips. He opened his eyes. They were dark with a different kind of storm brewing underneath them. I swallowed, shook my head, and immediately shoved backwards, but his left hand gripped my waist, his other hand in my hair, as he pressed his lips to mine. I froze all over. His hands rubbed my skull, his fingers dipping into my skin. I hated that my heart wasn't boiling in genuine hatred right now. If anything, it was beating strangely, a wave of heat settling at the pit of my stomach. He deepened the kiss, his lips rather too soft and cold.Wait. What was I doing? I immediately backed away, my knees hitting the wooden frame, and I let out a loud hiss, feeling the pain spread as my legs numbed for a while. “Mab

  • The Alpha's Regret    CHAPTER 79: CONFRONTATION.

MABEL.My eyes widened. This scene … the scent of her strong deodorant, and how she curled closer to him. I swallowed, my fingers slowly curling as I stared at the man on the bed with her. I didn't process the scene properly. First, I searched everywhere for Kyra and came here after Arlan told me that she had followed Kyra Not only was Kyra not here, but Kyran was entangled on the bed with her. Gena’s body pressed against him while she leaned even closer at my presence. I turned to look at Kyran again. His lips moved, but no words came out. He looked helpless on the bed, face burning red like it was some fever. A soft moan escaped Gena's lips as she trembled a bit on his body. Kyran's hands were on her waist, gripping tight, and his face was red. I didn't know why, but my chest burned a bit. It was as if something was twisting viciously. “Mabel …” Gena said softly, “don't blame Kyran, he just wanted me so much and I …” her voice cracked as she feigned tears, “ I couldn't say n

  • The Alpha's Regret    CHAPTER 78: TRAP

KYRAN.Three days had passed since the news went round about the marriage. Pre-wedding photos were out. Invitations had been sent out, and the elders were present. I stood still while the photographer adjusted his camera for the fourth time, telling us to angle closer. “Closer, Alpha.”“A little closer, Alpha.”It was like we were mannequins he was arranging in a shop window. Mabel stood beside me in deep green, her jaw tight, her smile the kind you paint on for a photograph and nothing else.I didn't mind. A fake smile from her was still better than nothing at all.Officials from Crescent Zenith pack had arrived that morning, along with a handful of allied Alphas, all here to witness what the elders were calling a historic reunion. I called it something else in my head. A second chance I wasn't going to waste. And then there was Silas.I noticed him the moment he walked in, broad-shouldered, that smug curl permanently attached to his mouth, his cold gaze that swept through the crow

  • The Alpha's Regret    CHAPTER 5: Threat Outside The Capital

MABEL'S POV I stopped before the hospital, stepped out of the car, and rushed inside. Nurses ran from one corner to the other, a few patients seated at the side, probably awaiting the doctor. My gaze was fixed ahead, legs heavy with each step I took. The most important thing right now wasn't the

Mabel’s POV The moment Kyran picked up the pen and signed those adoption papers for Gena's child, something inside me just died completely, and any tiny bit of hope I had left for this marriage was gone. Mabel’s POVThe moment I heard those nurses mention a celebration at the pack house, something inside me snapped completely, and before I realized it, I was already grabbing my coat and rushing out of the hospital room.“Luna?” the nanny called after me in confusion.“Stay with her,” I said quickly

  • The Alpha's Regret    Chapter 2

Mabel’s POV“Kyran, how could you do this to your own child?” I gritted out, my fingers tightening around the phone until my knuckles turned pale. But no matter how angry or heartbroken I felt right now, I refused to let his foolishness cost my daughter her life. The pack had always hated me since
