Chapter 4

Mabel’s POV

The moment Kyran picked up the pen and signed those adoption papers for Gena's child, something inside me just died completely, and any tiny bit of hope I had left for this marriage was gone.

I didn't even feel like crying anymore, just went totally cold as I watched him hand the documents back to the elder without even looking at me.

I turned around without saying a single word to anyone in that room, walked straight out to my car in the parking lot, and grabbed the envelope with the divorce papers I had already filled out nights ago at the hospital.

I had decided if Kyran continued to not bother about our daughter, I would end this suffocating relationship where the only thing I got was disregard and dishonor from the pack.

I walked right back into the hall with the papers in my hand, ignoring how everyone stopped talking the second the door opened, and threw the whole stack right at Kyran's feet.

Kyran looked at the envelope and threw his gaze back to me.

“Are you done?” Kyran asked finally, his voice carrying that same dismissive tone I had grown too familiar with over the years, like I was interrupting something important just by existing.

“Is this supposed to make me feel guilty? Because it won’t. If this is your way of getting attention, Mabel, then you should stop embarrassing yourself in front of everyone and just say what you actually want.”

Fine, maybe it was useless to think he even had the time to wonder what it was in the envelope.

I let out a soft breath, looking in the eyes.

“I want a divorce, Kyran…there's the document."

“I don’t want the Luna title anymore,” I continued, my hands clenched so hard it bled.

“I don’t want the pack house, I don’t want your pity, and I don’t want you.”

Kyran didn't even bend down to pick up the sheets, he just leaned back in his chair and let out a loud, annoyed sigh like I was just ruining his dinner.

“Mabel, pick those up right now and stop embarrassing yourself,” he said, using that heavy Alpha voice that usually made me back down.

“I already told you that Gena's daughter was in a critical condition, and I don't have time for your emotional tantrums just because you want attention tonight.”

“I am not playing games with you, Kyran, and you won’t have to worry about me embarrassing you ever again,” I said, my voice sounding completely flat and calm.

I could feel the envelope of the medical report I wanted to show him inside my bag, but looking at how he was standing protectively over Gena, I knew he wouldn't care anyway.

He would just choose her child over ours like he always did, so I didn’t bother telling him and decided not to give him the chance to reject our baby again.

Since he thinks this is all just a tantrum for his attention, I took a deep breath and connected to the matebond.

“I, Mabel Henson, hereby reject you, Alpha Kyran Zendaro, as my mate and my husband, and I sever the bond between us right now.”

The moment the words came out, a sharp pain shot straight through my chest, making it hard to breathe, and my knees almost buckled.

Kyran froze completely, his eyes turning dark as his fingers gripped the edge of the table so hard the wood cracked, feeling the shock of a one-sided rejection hit him.

“What did you just say?” he finally asked.

I didn’t repeat it.

Gena instantly held onto Kyran’s arm tightly, looking shocked, while my son Arlan dropped his fork onto his plate and just stared at me, looking really confused and scared…he had never seen me act like this before.

“Mom…?”

I didn’t look at him. If I looked at him, I would lose everything I was holding together.

Kyran exhaled slowly, and then something in his expression hardened again, disbelief twisting his features.

“So this is it,” he said, voice flattening.

We both knew he had to verbally accept it to break the bond completely, but it was already stretched and weakened from my end.

He didn't say the words back because of his stubborn Alpha pride, and even though I knew I would suffer from the pain of forcing a one-sided rejection, I didn't care as long as he knew I was done with him.

Kyran shoved his chair back violently and stepped right up to me, looking completely furious.

“You really think you can just walk in here and threaten me with divorce papers because you're jealous that I'm helping Gena, Mabel?” he snarled, ripping his pen out of his pocket.

“If you want attention this badly and you think you can survive outside this pack, then I will give you exactly what you want.”

He snatched the papers off the floor, slammed them on the table right next to Arlan's cake, and signed his name quickly on the line.

“Sign it and leave, then. Let’s see how long it takes for you to come crawling back on your hands and knees once you realize you have nothing without my name.”

The second he finished the signature, the pain slammed into my chest like a punch once more, and I had to hold onto the doorframe just to keep myself from falling down in front of Gena.

I turned around and dragged my legs down the hallway, ignoring the servants whispering around me, and hurried out the front door.

I got into the driver's seat of my car, locked the doors, and completely broke down.

Burying my face in the steering wheel and cried loudly, my hands shaking so badly I could barely get the key into the ignition.

He actually did it, he signed the papers without even asking why I came from the hospital, completely fine with throwing his own family away just to make Gena happy.

I wiped my tears roughly and looked at myself in the mirror, “I will find a way to save my daughter without him or the pack’s help.” I managed to choke out.

“I won't let her die…I will make Kyran regret this decision he has made today.” Sniffing back the remaining waves of emotions.

I started the engine, hit the gas, and watched the gates of the Darknile Pack disappear in the dust behind me…

Still, I had less than thirty days to leave the pack and save my baby alone.

Mabel’s POVThe moment I heard those nurses mention a celebration at the pack house, something inside me snapped completely, and before I realized it, I was already grabbing my coat and rushing out of the hospital room.“Luna?” the nanny called after me in confusion.“Stay with her,” I said quickly, my voice trembling with anger and hurt all at once. “Don’t leave my daughter alone.”The nanny nodded immediately, startled by the look on my face, while I hurried down the hospital hallway trying to ignore the stares following me from the nurses nearby. Mabel’s POV“Kyran, how could you do this to your own child?” I gritted out, my fingers tightening around the phone until my knuckles turned pale. But no matter how angry or heartbroken I felt right now, I refused to let his foolishness cost my daughter her life. The pack had always hated me since they wanted Gena as their Luna instead of me, so despite carrying the title for five years, I barely played that role openly and Kyran had never once cared enough to correct the disrespect. Still, a Luna and her Alpha were equal in status as mates, and in situations where an Alpha was unavailable, the Luna had the authority to occupy his office and make decisions in his place.I turned toward my daughter again, and my chest tightened painfully at the sight of her tiny body lying weakly against the hospital bed. Her breathing was uneven again, and even while asleep, she looked uncomfortable, her little brows furrowed like she could still feel the pain moving through her body. I couldn’t l

The doctors said the only thing that could save her would be a heart surgery.Yet my husband Kyran Zendaro, the Alpha of Darknile Pack, was not even here, instead he was busy trying to make up for what he always called his past mistake of marrying me instead of his first love, Gena. The night we were found to be fated mates, Kyran had been drunk during a pack event, he marked me, sealing the bond between us through mating before I even understood what it meant, and I had no idea I was already carrying his child then. Being adopted by the lowest ranking family in the pack meant I didn’t grow up with the training other she-wolves had.I didn’t understand politics, status, or how deeply a mate bond could change a person’s life, so when I finally gave birth to our s
