My thoughts went dead and my heart stopped at the news. I tried to make sense of what I was hearing. Did I mishear?

"What did you say?" I turned my gaze to Karson who looked very uncomfortable, biting his mouth and gripping the wheels.

"I said the kids are at… Lexie's."

I looked out the window, waiting for the joke to pass over but the silence in the car made the news sink in deeper.

"Lexie's?" I couldn't help but notice how he said her name like she was a long time friend of ours and was somehow my kids godmother.

"How the fuck!" I snapped my head at him as I yelled. "You're telling me that my children-"

"I don't know how-"

"...re over at your Pack-"

"Irene, please, try to calm down-"

"Calm down?" I screamed. "Calm down when she barged into my house and took them-- you have got to be kidding me!" it didn't make any sense the more I thought about it.

I could only picture her wicked smile. This wasn't even funny. We've never been close enough for her to pull this kind of a joke.
