CHAPTER 45

KARSON

"You've been quiet ever since you came back from your little outing."

I turned my head to my mother as she invited herself into my living room like she owns the place. She strode in with all that nosey aura oozing from her. I know she has a lot of questions.

"I didn't know I was being watched," I made to sit up but she put up a hand, telling me to remain in place while she sat on the other couch facing me.

"Come on, Karson. You're a grown man. Why should I watch you?" She narrowed her eyes. "I heard you stopped by the Mall--"

"And here we go."

"I went shopping when I heard the Alpha stopped by," she shrugged , trying to defend herself but she's going to try a lot harder to get me to believe her.

"It was so unusual, they were all talking about it," she avoided my gaze as she spoke, an obvious evidence of her lie. "Why did you go shopping for kids? Are we starting another orphanage? You didn't donate-"
