LOGINLyra's POV
Malakar's golden eyes glowed brighter than ever.
"You've finally awakened."
Dark shadows poured from his body, swallowing the throne room in crimson mist.
"...the real war can begin."
The words echoed through the palace like a curse.
The silver light surrounding me flickered as the darkness spread across the ancient floor. The warmth flowing through the Moon Crown remained, but for the first time since placing it upon my head, I felt its power being challenged.
The air grew heavier.
Breathing became difficult.
The blue flames lining the walls turned violet before returning to silver, as though the palace itself was struggling against the darkness invading its halls.
Queen Elena stepped beside me, her expression calm despite the danger.
"Do not let fear control you."
I tore my eyes away from Malakar.
"I'm trying."
"No."
She gently shook her head.
"You are surviving. I need you to believe."
Before I could answer, Malakar raised his blood-red sword toward the ceiling.
A crimson beam shot upward, striking the palace roof.
The entire throne room trembled violently.
Large cracks raced across the marble walls.
Pieces of stone crashed onto the floor.
The statues surrounding the hall began glowing brighter, their silver eyes fixed upon the invader.
Malakar laughed.
"Even after centuries, this place still refuses to bow."
Queen Elena's voice turned cold.
"The Moon Palace bows to no one."
Malakar's smile disappeared.
"Then I'll tear it apart."
He slammed his sword into the ground.
The crimson mist exploded outward.
From within the darkness, figures slowly emerged.
One...
Five...
Ten...
Twenty...
They wore black armor marked with glowing crimson symbols. Long black capes flowed behind them as they marched forward in perfect silence.
Each warrior carried a different weapon.
Swords.
Spears.
Axes.
Bows.
Not one of them showed the slightest emotion.
My stomach tightened.
"They're not alive..."
Queen Elena nodded sadly.
"They were once the Moon Kingdom's greatest guardians."
My heart sank.
"What happened to them?"
"They chose power over honor."
Malakar chuckled.
"They chose survival."
He spread his arms proudly.
"When your kingdom fell, I offered them a choice."
He looked toward the silent warriors.
"Serve me... or die."
None of them moved.
None of them spoke.
Their empty crimson eyes remained fixed on me.
"They accepted," Malakar finished.
Queen Elena lowered her head.
"They lost far more than their lives."
I stared at the warriors.
Something about them felt... familiar.
Not because I knew them.
Because somehow...
They knew me.
One of the armored warriors slowly stepped forward.
He removed his helmet.
My breath caught.
He wasn't old.
He wasn't scared.
He looked no older than thirty.
Yet his eyes were completely empty.
He dropped to one knee.
"My Queen..."
The words echoed through the hall.
Before I could react, he gripped his own head in pain.
"No..."
His voice trembled.
"Run..."
Malakar's eyes narrowed.
The warrior screamed.
Dark smoke poured from his mouth.
He clutched his chest as crimson symbols spread across his skin.
Then he stood once again.
Expressionless.
Silent.
As though nothing had happened.
I stared in horror.
"What did you do to him?"
Malakar smiled.
"I erased everything that made him weak."
Queen Elena's fists tightened.
"You stole his soul."
"I perfected it."
My chest ached.
These weren't monsters.
They had once been heroes.
Protectors.
People who had families.
Dreams.
Lives.
Now they were nothing more than prisoners trapped inside their own bodies.
A warm pulse spread from the Moon Crown.
The silver markings on my wrists glowed brighter.
A strange voice echoed inside my mind.
Free them.
I blinked.
The voice wasn't Queen Elena's.
It wasn't mine.
It was older.
Ancient.
Filled with compassion.
Again it whispered.
Free our guardians.
I looked toward Queen Elena.
"Did you hear that?"
She smiled softly.
"The Crown is speaking to you."
"It wants me to save them."
"It remembers every soul sworn to protect this kingdom."
Malakar scoffed.
"Enough of this."
He lifted his sword.
"Shadow Guard..."
Every warrior immediately raised their weapons.
"Kill your Queen."
The hall exploded into chaos.
The Shadow Guard charged as one, their synchronized footsteps shaking the ancient palace. Black armor gleamed beneath the crimson mist while swords, spears, and axes cut through the air.
Every instinct screamed at me to run.
But my feet refused to move.
I wasn't protecting only myself anymore.
I was protecting an entire kingdom.
"Lyra!" Queen Elena called. "Listen to the Crown. Don't think. Feel."
The first warrior reached me.
His sword came down with terrifying force.
I raised my hands instinctively.
A burst of silver light erupted from my palms.
The blade struck the glowing shield with a deafening clang before shattering into dozens of glittering fragments.
The warrior stumbled backward.
The others hesitated.
Even Malakar's confident expression faltered.
"The Crown has accepted her," he whispered.
A strange warmth spread through my body.
It wasn't power that frightened me anymore.
It was purpose.
The Moon Crown wasn't fighting for me.
It was fighting through me.
Another Shadow Guard lunged.
This time I didn't panic.
I stretched out my hand.
Silver ribbons of moonlight wrapped around the warrior's body.
He froze.
His crimson eyes flickered.
For just a moment…
The red disappeared.
Tears rolled down his face.
"My... Queen..."
The words were barely a whisper.
Then the crimson symbols covering his armor flared violently.
He screamed.
The moonlight shattered.
Darkness reclaimed him.
He attacked once more.
"No!" I cried.
Queen Elena's voice echoed behind me.
"The darkness still controls them! You cannot save them until its master is defeated!"
Malakar laughed loudly.
"You see? Hope changes nothing."
He pointed his sword toward me.
"End this."
The Shadow Guard surrounded me from every direction.
There was nowhere left to escape.
The Moon Crown suddenly became unbearably warm.
The symbols carved into the throne room floor blazed with silver fire.
The statues lining the walls slowly came to life.
Stone cracked.
Ancient wolves carved beside each throne stepped forward.
Their glowing silver eyes fixed upon their enemies.
Malakar's smile vanished.
"The Royal Guardians..."
Massive stone wolves leaped from their pedestals with earth-shaking force.
One slammed into a group of Shadow Guards, sending them crashing across the hall.
Another stood protectively before me, releasing a thunderous howl that echoed throughout the palace.
The sound carried ancient magic.
The crimson mist began to weaken.
Queen Elena smiled proudly.
"The palace has accepted you."
I stared in amazement.
"I didn't summon them."
"You didn't have to."
"The kingdom remembers its queen."
Malakar growled with frustration.
"I've waited twenty years for this moment!"
Dark energy erupted around him.
The crimson mist condensed into enormous chains that shot toward the stone wolves.
One by one, they became trapped.
The wolves struggled.
Cracks spread across their stone bodies.
They wouldn't hold much longer.
Queen Elena's expression changed.
"Lyra..."
I turned.
"You must leave."
"What?"
"The palace cannot protect you forever."
"I'm not leaving you."
"You must."
She looked toward the towering silver throne.
"There is another path."
The throne slowly moved aside.
A hidden staircase spiraled downward into darkness.
"It leads to the Heart of the Moon Kingdom."
"What is that?"
"The source of the Crown's power."
Another explosion shook the hall.
One of the stone wolves shattered into hundreds of pieces.
Malakar laughed triumphantly.
"You have nowhere left to run!"
Queen Elena looked back at me.
"If he reaches the Heart before you do... everything ends tonight."
I hesitated.
Leaving felt wrong.
But staying would doom us all.
Queen Elena smiled gently.
"Go."
"I'll find you again."
"You will."
I took one last look at the ancient queen before running toward the hidden staircase.
Behind me, the palace echoed with the sounds of battle.
The stone wolves roared.
The Shadow Guard shouted.
Malakar screamed my name in fury.
"Run, little Queen!"
His voice echoed through the palace.
"No matter where you hide..."
His laughter followed me into the darkness.
"...I will always find you."
As I descended deeper beneath the palace, the silver light surrounding the staircase slowly faded.
Then...
A pair of glowing blue eyes opened in the darkness ahead.
A deep growl echoed through the tunnel.
I stopped breathing.
Something ancient...
Something powerful…
Had been waiting for me.
Lyra's POV"Because the King is the prison.”The woman's voice echoed through the chamber.I couldn't move. She had Mother's face.Mother's eyes.Mother's voice. But she wasn't my mother.I knew that.I had to.“Who are you?” I whispered. The woman smiled.“That's the question you've been asking since the night you were born.”Kael stepped in front of me.“Stay away from her.”The woman looked at him.Something changed in her expression. Not fear.Recognition.“You.”Kael's jaw tightened.“You know me?”“I know what you carry.”Her eyes dropped to the black mark on his chest.“The blood of the first King.”Kael looked down at the mark.“I thought that bloodline was supposed to protect the Moon Kingdom.”“It was.”She took another step forward.“Until your ancestor chose the Moon Queen.”The First King. The story we'd already heard. But something about the woman's voice made it sound different.“He didn't just choose her,” she continued. “He chose to betray his own brother.”Kael frown
Lyra's POVThe hand around my ankle tightened.Cold.That was the first thing I felt. Not pain.Cold.It traveled through my skin and straight into my bones.I screamed and tried to pull away.“Lyra!”Kael grabbed my waist.Seraphine seized my hands.Together, they pulled. The hand didn't move.Instead, something beneath the floor pulled harder. My body slid across the stone.“Don't let go!” I cried.Kael wrapped both arms around me.“I won't!”The crack beneath us widened.Black mist poured from it.The dead warriors backed away.Even the First King stepped away from the opening. That frightened me more than anything else.“You know what's down there,” I said.He didn't answer.“Tell me!”His eyes remained fixed on the darkness.“You don't want to know.”The hand pulled again. My fingers slipped from Seraphine's.“Lyra!”I reached for her.Our fingertips touched. Then the floor beneath me collapsed.I fell.Kael caught my wrist. For one terrifying second, I hung over the darkness.Hi
Lyra's POVKael smiled. But I knew that smile. It wasn't his.I had seen Kael smile a hundred times. When he was teasing me.When he was trying to hide his worry. When he looked at me as if the rest of the world had disappeared. This smile held none of that.It was cold.Ancient.Hungry.I slowly stepped backward.“Kael?”His head tilted. For several seconds, he said nothing. Then he laughed. The sound was low and unfamiliar.“You still call him that.”My heart stopped.“Who are you?”His black eyes remained fixed on mine.“You already know.”“No.”“Yes.”He took one step toward me.The dead army moved with him.Hundreds of swords lifted.Seraphine grabbed my wrist.“Lyra, don't.”I couldn't look away from Kael.“Give him back.”Kael's smile widened.“He isn't here.”My chest tightened.“That's a lie.”“Is it?”He touched the black mark on his chest.“He fought.”His voice changed. For one brief second, it sounded like Kael.“Lyra…”My breath caught. His eyes flickered silver.“Run.”
Lyra's POV"Bring me my daughters.”The words did not come from the creature’s mouth. They came from everywhere. From the stone beneath my feet. From the dead warriors kneeling before me.From the darkness beyond the ancient doorway.Even from inside my own chest.I couldn't breathe. My eyes remained fixed on the enormous shape beyond the gate.It had no true face.Only darkness. Two enormous wings stretched across the space behind it, disappearing into the blackness above. Hundreds of pale eyes opened along its body, blinking slowly as though they were waking after thousands of years. And yet, somehow, I knew it.Not its name. Not its history. But its presence. It felt terrifyingly familiar.“Lyra.”Seraphine's voice trembled beside me.I turned toward her.For the first time since I had met my twin, she looked afraid. Not angry. Not powerful.Afraid.“You feel it too,” I whispered. She nodded.“It knows us.”The First King laughed. The sound echoed through the dead army.“You finall
Lyra's POVNo one moved. Not the soldiers. Not the ancient woman. Not even Kael.Thousands of dead warriors stood behind the First King, their empty eyes fixed on me.Then, slowly, they lowered themselves to one knee.Every sword touched the ground. The sound traveled across the palace like thunder.I stared at them in disbelief.“Why are they kneeling to me?”The First King smiled.“Because they remember.”“Remember what?”“Who you were.”I shook my head.“I have never seen any of them.”“You haven't.”He stepped through the doorway.“But they have seen you.”The dead warriors raised their heads.A strange pressure filled the air. Then one of them spoke.“My Queen.”Another followed.“My Queen.”Then hundreds.Thousands.“My Queen.”Their voices merged into one enormous sound.I stepped backward.“I am not your queen.”The First King laughed.“You still believe that.”Kael moved beside me.His sword was raised, though his hand was shaking.“Stay away from her.”The First King looked
Lyra's POVI couldn't move.Kael stood before me.But the thing wearing his face wasn't Kael. Its silver hair was the same. Its body was the same.Even the tiny scar beneath his left eye was there. But his eyes…They were black.Completely black.“You're lying,” I whispered. The creature smiled.“I have no reason to.”I tightened my grip on the Blade of Dawn.“Give him back.”It tilted Kael's head.“He was never yours to begin with.”My heart cracked.“That isn't true.”“Isn't it?”It took one step toward me.“The man you love is only a vessel now.”“No.”“You can still save him.”My breath caught.“How?”The creature smiled.“Kill me.”I stared at it.“What?”“Kill this body.”My fingers tightened around the blade.“If you destroy me, Kael dies with me.”I lowered the weapon slightly.“You're bluffing.”“Am I?”It pressed one hand against its chest. The black mark beneath Kael's skin pulsed. His face suddenly twisted in pain.“Stop!”I rushed toward him.The creature grabbed my wrist
